KRACH needs more data (games) to be of value; but for those that want to see how the first games work with KRACH, I'll post it now.

Looking at this early helped me initially understand how KRACH works, that it doesn't look at score or class, and that it only considers W/L/T & the strength of the schedule a team plays.

Keep in mind - the 116 teams have only played a few games. No team has yet to play more than five games.

Brian, thanks for doing this again.

I see what you mean when you say, "KRACH needs more data (games) to be of value". I looked at Class AA and see that Duluth is on top, just ahead of Hill-Murray. No disrespect to Duluth, but I think most would venture to guess that that will not last too long.

Looks like there was a lot of change - as expected - in just a week. Still too early, but it'll be interesting to see how the KRACH and LPH converge it seems and where they'll ultimately differ at year-end.

They would be 1-1 against each other plus Blake would have a tie.
If their SOS's were further apart, it might make up the difference.
Without that I don't think they would...but it is an interesting thought

it's always interesting to see how things change over time, and see rankings once more data is available.

While I generally like Krach, I feel and have always felt that SOS is not weighted as highly as it should be. With a system like this it is better to play a soft schedule and rack up wins rather than lose to top end teams.

QRF explained in detail
I'm getting a lot of feedback wondering how to explain the new QRF and how it is different than the previous formulas. Here is the basic answer

Old formulas used to be:
Predetermined value (based on opponent class) / number of games played

New QRF is:
Predetermined value (based on opponent class) * number of opponent wins / number of games played

That's it. The old QRF that incorporated margin of victory added another parameter, but that is all.

The Quality Results Formula (QRF) was created to try and rank teams from different parts of the state. I won't go into specific detail about the formula, but can give you an idea of how it works.

Each game is given an individual QRF (iQRF) based three things (listed in order of importance)
Win or Loss
Opponent wins
Class differential between the teams
Logically, the more wins an opponent has, the higher your opponents Class is, and the more you win by the higher your iQRF is for that game.

When all of a team's iQRF's are added together and divided by the number of MN games played, you come up with a team's QRF.
*Only MN vs. MN games count.

This number is then compared to other teams in the state to come up with an overall ranking. The QRF ranking should only be used to compare teams within the same Class. Cross-Class comparisons are not comparing apples to apples.

For a multi-class system like football QRF may be somewhat valid. In a 2 class system like hockey, it does not appear so.

Remember, any parameters used are still subjective in that they are chosen by someone for their formula as a ways to compare teams and therefore rank them. The idea is to find a ranking that closely demonstrates what competition would determine to some degree of accuracy.

Now that teams have played 14-18 games out of 25, KRACH usually seems very close where QRF appears off.

Agreed. I don't know for certain if it's entirely responsible for the difference, but the class consideration is apparently at least a difference between qrf and krach algorithms/calculations/rankings
