Best player to ever come out of I Falls...

Post by ifallsfan » Thu Jan 08, 2004 11:30 am

Not having a real long history with the Bronco's, only living there for 3 yrs, the best player I saw personally was Jon Austin. Who do you think is the best player to ever come through the Falls historic program?

Ben Gordon I assume would need to be mentioned, what about players who played in the 60s and 70s for Ross?

Is Sheehy the only player from I falls to ever play in the NHL? He would be considered right?

Thought this would be an interesting thread given quite a few Bronco fans in here.

GO BRONCOS!

best I Falls

Post by rustyblade » Thu Jan 08, 2004 11:47 am

I Falls has produced may outstanding players throughout the history of highschool hockey. My vote would go to Tim Sheehy. A quality player who played on many Championship teams.

Both Neil and Tim Sheehy played in the NHL. Tim was also an Olympian. Gary Sampson was on the '84 Olympic team, as was Bob Mason. Both played in the NHL. Lefty Curran was another goaltender that saw both Olympic and professional action.

The Falls has cranked out some great players - not as many in the past 20 years, but they do still produce a Division I prospect now and then.

Best Falls Player/S

Post by PT16 » Thu Jan 08, 2004 1:14 pm

What is your criteria for best player to ever come out of I.Falls? Is it what they did in college, pros, etc. Or are you looking at their career as a Bronco? All of the players mentioned in this strand deserve a nod, also Terry Shold, he was a great high school player that went on to play briefly for UMD. Joey Beck who was all-state as a junior in 1987-88 and went on to play for Brown was a great player as was Marty Olson who led the IRC in scoring in 1988-1989 and went on to play for Colorado College and UMD. Another great goaltender was Tony Couture who went on to play for American International and UND. Just a few other players worthy of note.

That may be impossible to pin down to just one. Lots of good ones way up there over the years. Tim Sheehy would probably make everyones list toward the top. Way too many to mention.

Way too many over the years to mention, but as a high school player and not looking at what they did in hockey after high school. David Brown hands down.

sorry to intrude on the thread, but I haven't seen a post from PT16 for awhile. My kid misses you at the rink. Have you followed your boys at all this year, since you're not coaching hockey?

I have been following the team and your son hockeydad, however only through the paper, I have not seen a game in person yet. Sounds like he is doing well and earned another victory the other night. Tell him I can still beat him upper right anytime I want to. Hope all is well and tell your son to keep focused and keep working hard as he always has. Say hi to Kriha for me at the arena.

Dave Brown, Very good Hockaholic

Post by tooold2tell » Fri Jan 09, 2004 10:32 am

I was just waiting for someone to put down the real answer, which is David Brown (70-73), the most talented player to play high school hockey in the Falls, Larry Ross said he was the most gifted player he had coached. Tim Sheehy was the best player, and Oscar Mahle is the player he wanted at crunch time. To be honest, I think we shouldn't get into these threads, because if each town decided to do this, Mitch might become a little disgusted. Besides, some of the postings on this thread are rediculous, the 95 team was good, but put them in a one class system, they probably don't even get to state. Here's the Best:
G- Peter Waselovich
D- Cal Sandbeck
D- Jim Amidon
C- David Brown
W- Tim Sheehy
W- Oscar Mahle
