Four hours before this week's poll closes we are four contestants short of last week's 30 total.

Also JohnnyBuck I hope you see this in time, as you did not predict the winners and scores of the Tuesday and Wednesday night games.

And finally, looking at the vote totals so far, it appears that we'll have just three games that appear fairly even: Eastview/Eagan; Eagan/Spring Lake Park/CR; and Eden Prairie/Wayzata. For all the other games where there is a clear favorite, getting some scores right will be especially important.

With the polls now closed we have 27 contestants this week, including JohnnyBuck's partial (apparently Johnny did not see either my personal message or my two posts in the thread).

Anyway good luck to everyone and look for a first day update later tonight.

Results for three of our four games have been posted as final, and we already have one huge upset:

Eastview 4, Eagan 3
Natalie Snodgrass scored shorthanded with 6:23 remaining to give the Lightning a 4-3 victory over the Wildcats at the Eagan Civic Center. This gave Snodgrass her third hat trick of the year, to go with a four goal game that she had in Eastview’s 6-1 over Lakeville North earlier this month. Brooke Madsen and Sophia Bergman each had a goal and an assist for Eagan. Shots on goal in the game were almost even, at 23-22 Eagan.

This you could call a mild upset, with our panel favoring Eagan to win this game by a 15-10 margin, with one thinking tie. Of the 10 who correctly picked Eastview, two also predicted the score. Those two were easthockeydad and nu2hockey – great call guys!

Wayzata 3, Edina 1
Natalie Heising scored both the tying and winning goals to lead the Trojans over the Hornets at Braemar Arena. Maddie Wolsmann got the lone assists on both of Heising’s goals, then scored herself to put Wayzata up 3-1, and with a scoreless third that’s how it ended. Sarah Stelter was nearly unbeatable in net for the Trojans, stopping all but one of Edina's 39 shots.

This was a big upset in our contest, as only two – glovesareoff and nu2hockey – picked the Trojans to win. And both also came very close in getting the score right, having predicted a 3-2 Wayzata win. Always great to pick up a point on nearly the whole field! :)

Dodge County 4, Buffalo 3
(game details not yet available)
Dodge County was heavily favored in this one, as all but two had them winning. Of the 24 who had the Wildcats winning, 36Guy, Sparlimb and panpan111 nailed the score and add the extra point.

Late result from Eden Prairie:

Minnetonka 2, Eden Prairie 1
Lauren Klein scored the tying goal and Katie McMillan got the winner as the No. 2AA Minnetonka Skippers edged the 6AA Eden Prairie Eagles in a Lake Conference battle at the Eden Prairie Community Center. McMillan’s goal came on the power play with just 20 seconds remaining in regulation. Eden Prairie had the edge in shots, 34-30, but had a hard time solving Tonka’s Tatyana Delaittre, who stopped 33 of them.

No one predicted an upset and no one predicted such a low-scoring game, so all 26 contestants earn a single point. Here’s the top of our Leaderboard after Day 1:

1. nu2hockey – 5 points (4 for 4 including a perfect score)

2. sparlimb – 4
easthockeydad – 4

4. Nine with 3

13. Thirteen with 2

26. One with 1

Just a single game tomorrow as Stillwater travels to Edina. We'll see how the Hornets respond after tonight's tough loss to Wayzata.

I think when that happens it would be fair to give the person the favorite and average predicted score for the games they miss. If they end up winning you can put an asterisk next to it.

I'd go along with whatever the group thinks about this. Anyone else want to chime in?

Waste of your time. Your efforts to notify him go far beyond what is necessary.

Sophie Slattery scored twice to lead Edina over Stillwater in a non-conference tilt at Braemar Arena. Lolita Fidler also figured prominently in the scoring, with a goal and first assists on both of Slattery’s tallies. The Hornets had a wide 42-17 edge in shots, and their goaltender Anna Goldstein held the Ponies scoreless for the shutout, her 4th of the season.

All 26 prognosticators had Edina winning. There were two - clutterbucket and MNHockeyFan :o – who also guessed the score and add the bonus, which at least gets us to within shouting range of the leaders. ;)

Updated standings:

1. nu2hockey – 6 points (5 for 6 including a perfect score)

2. sparlimb – 5
easthockeydad – 5

4. Eleven with 4

13. Eleven with 3

Eagan 1, Spring Lake Park/Coon Rapids 4
Taylor Turnquist scored two goals, including what turned out to be the game winner, leading Spring Lake Park/Coon Rapids past Eagan 4-1. Lily Hackett had a goal and two assists, and Bryna DelCastillo contributed two assists to the Panthers’ win. Sami Miller saved all but one of the 27 shots that Eagan put on net.

A mild upset according to our panel, which favored the higher ranked Wildcats by a 16-11 margin. The result tightened up our standings considerably as all of our three leaders after Wednesday’s game picked Eagan to win.

Standings will be posted after the Tonka/Maple Grove result is final.

Minnetonka 3, Maple Grove 1
U of M bound Kippin Keller scored twice as Minnetonka held off upset-minded Maple Grove 3-1 at the Maple Grove Community Center. Keller’s second goal, which was scored short-handed, put Tonka up 2-1. Emma Bigham then scored their third goal with just four seconds remaining later that period. For the game the Skippers outshot the Crimson 32-16. The win kept Minnetonka’s undefeated record going; they're now 11-0-1.

22 of 27 add points to their totals, with MN_Bowhunter, easthockeydad and THEBUCKSTOPSHERE also getting the score right, so they add two.

With seven games remaining this week, we have a two-way tie for 1st Place:

1. Easthockeydad – 7 points
nu2hockey – 7

3. MN_Bowhunter – 6
wolfman – 6
Sparlimb – 6

One of our two games this evening has been posted as final:

Centennial 0, Hill-Murray 5
Top rated Hill-Murray dominated 13th ranked Centennial 5-0 in a non-conference game played at Aldrich Arena. Laura Anderson got the Pioneers rolling, scoring the game’s first two goals which gave her 14 for the season. Stalwart senior defender Mekenzie Steffen, who will be playing for the Wisconsin Badgers next season, figured in on three of the Pioneers’ five goals with three assists. And in goal Mari Johnson stopped all 14 Cougars’ shots, boosted her season save percentage to .970. The win boosted Hill-Murray’s record to 9-0-0 on the season. Defensively they are now limiting their opponents to less than 0.6 goals per game.

We were unanimous in predicting a Hill-Murray win. Just one – 36Guy – also got the score right to add the bonus.

I’ll post the updated standings when the result of the CDH/Mounds View game is shown as a final.

Cretin-Derham Hall 1, Mounds View 1 (OT Tie)

Suburban East rivals Cretin-Derham Hall and Mounds View battled to a defensive 1-1 tie at the Schwans Super Rink. The Mustangs’ Kayla Collins, on an assist from Kaiya Quam, opened the scoring with just 37 seconds remaining in the 1st period. The Raiders’ Emily King, assisted by Mackenzie Molnar, then answered with the tying goal with 3:27 remaining in the 2nd period. But defense and goaltending were the story in this one. Mounds View’s Teagan Johnson finished with 22 saves on 23 shots, and CDH freshman Megan Meyers stopped all but one of the Mustangs’ 16 shots.

In our Week 6 contest - as is usual with a tie - everybody, or nearly everybody in this case, was shut out in terms of contest points. The lone exception was MIYY4U, who predicted 3-3, so he gained a much-needed point on the rest of the field. Standings headed into tomorrow’s five “Big Games”:

1. eEasthockeydad – 8 points
nu2hockey – 8

3. 36Guy – 7
MN_Bowhunter – 7
wolfman – 7
Sparlimb – 7
THEBUCKSTOPSHERE – 7
massalsa – 7

9. MIYY4U – 6
glovesareoff – 6
clutterbucket – 6
The Bone – 6
hockeybozo – 6
hugo_lucas – 6
panpan111 – 6
mnhockey3535 – 6
spars46 – 6
MNHockeyFan – 6

19. Seven with 5

26. One with 4

27. One with 3

The game was not as close as the score. Centennial's goalie (Juergens) kept the score from being 10-0. She was stellar in stopping 37 of the 42 shots. She has saved them many times this year. Centennial's top player Hughes was out, so that didn't help their cause. That left Linser to handle the load. Centennial played Hill hard for the first half of the game, getting a few chances to score. For the most part though, Hill was still in control. Centennial started to tire out toward the end of the 2nd, and that opened up Hill's game. It continued into the 3rd with little resistance. Hill controlled the puck very well, and Centennial chased them. Puck was in Centennial's zone 80-90% of the 3rd period. Centennial's defense could not win the puck, and thus could not even work simple breakout plays (I don't think I saw a clean breakout the whole night from them). Their 2nd and 3rd lines were non-existent. Anderson and Steffen for Hill played like they're ready for college to start (former Centennial products). I don't see how Steffen didn't make the USA U18 team. She has to be one of the top 5 defenseman in the state. It's hard to see Hill losing a game before State this year, but we all know Maple Grove and Wayzata will have some thing to say about that. Either of them could beat Hill on any given night.

Just for the record, it was Lace'emUp who was wondering how Steffen didn't make the U18 team. By no means am I questioning that assessment, it's just that haven't seen her play enough to either agree or disagree.

you are correct. my bad. it's still fun to watch how versatile of a player she is, and how much confidence plays with on the ice. zero weaknesses in her game. if young defenseman out there want to see how the position should be played, go watch her play a few times this year. it is a must.

No problem at all, massalsa. I find that after a while, when you have a string of posts that quote what others have posted, it can get confusing as to who said what! :?
