FYI the Hub shows a 5:30 start time for the Warroad/Thief River game, but as it turns out they don't drop the puck until 7:30. The game is, however, being streamed live here:

Warroad 1, Thief River Falls 2
It was 2-0 until Warroad scored late after pulling their goalie. They put some good pressure trying to tie it up, but ran out of time. So these two teams split the regular season series, with each game decided by a single goal.

An upset according to our (usually) esteemed panel, as 17 of 24 thought the Warriors would win, with 2 others thinking tie. That leaves 5 who made the correct call, especially Misterright who also got the correct score and the bonus point.

Stillwater 0, Mounds View 3
Mounds View scored a goal in each period and outshot the Ponies 46-15 in a Suburban East Conference matchup. Rachel Anderson led the way with a goal and an assist, and Teagan Johnson made 15 saves for her shutout.

Another 'subpar effort' by our group, with just 7 of 24 getting the winner and no bonus points.

Edina 1, Chaska/Chanhassen 0
Savanna Atol's power play goal just a minute five into the game held up as the game winner. Sophie Slattery and Olivia Kilberg assisted on the play, while Anna Goldstein needed to make saves on all 30 Storm Hawks shots to preserve the win.

This time the majority (14/24) got a point, but again no bonuses.

Proctor/Hermantown 4, Grand Rapids/Greenway 1

Proctor/Hermantown came back from a one goal deficit to score four goals in the 3rd Period, including two by Sophie McGovern in just 18 seconds...in the last minute of the game, no less. McGovern also assisted on the game winner, scored by Abby Halverson, which came with just 1:17 remaining. Shots on goal were dead even at 24 apiece.

15 of 24 correctly picked the Mirage to win, but again no bonuses are being handed out.

Wayzata 0, Eden Prairie 6
The Eagles scored on both of their first period power play opportunities and went on to score four more goals in a dominating 6-0 win over Lake Conference rival Wayzata. Rachel Werdin scored twice and Lauren Oberle was quite the playmaker, with five assists. Sophomore Alexa Dobchuk stopped all 21 Trojans shots to earn the shutout, her eighth of the season.

15 of 24 had EP coming out on top, but everyone thought it would be a tighter game than it turned out to be (average predicted score was 2.5 to 2.1). Again, no one got the score right.

From Minnesota-scores.net:

Blaine 1, Centennial 3
(game stats not yet available)

Another tough one for our group, with the majority getting it wrong! Just 10 of 24 had Centennial winning, and once again no correct scores. In fact, of the 144 game predictions this evening (6 games x 24 contestants) there was just one correct score. And a total of just 67 points, for an average per contestant of 2.8 in the six games. I had a feeling that this was going to be a tough week!

After a rough first day start, here's the top of the Leaderboard:

1. mnhockey3535 - 5 points (got them all except Warroad/TRF)
Misterright - 5 points (4 of 6 with the only correct score)

3. THEBUCKSTOPSHERE - 4
wolfman - 4
hockeybozo - 4

6. Sparlimb - 3
MNHockeyFan - 3
u12dad - 3
Hansonbrother - 3 [last reminder to add your prediction for Saturday's game between EGF/SLP-CR]
clutterbucket - 3
The Bone - 3
spars46 - 3
READYtoPLAY - 3
nu2hockey - 3
hugo_lucas - 3

16. Six with 2

22. Three with 1

Just two games on Thursday, then a huge eight game Saturday.

The first of our two games is now a final:

Edina 1, Elk River/Zimmerman 2
Third period goals by Madison Bizal and Andrea Westgaard led 9th ranked Elk River/Zimmerman to a 2-1 win over the 2nd ranked Edina Hornets at the Elk River Ice Arena. Anna Klein responded for Edina just 52 seconds after Westgaard's goal, but that was all Elks goaltender Michaela Gould would allow. Gould finished with 28 saves vs. 30 for Edina's Megan Smith.

Our panel of 24 was split right down the middle on this one, at 12 apiece. There were three who got the score right, including yours truly :o, The Bone and massalsa.

Look for an updated Leaderboard following the posting of the Breck/CDH score.

Breck 2, Cretin-Derham Hall 1
Breck's Kendall Williamson netted the game winner with her 3rd period power play goal. Teammate Sydney Breza had tied the score at 1-1, less than two minutes earlier, after the Raiders' Kennedy Spiering had given her team a 1-0 lead just 2:14 into the game. Shots on goal were almost even, with CDH having a slight advantage at 26-24.

Two-thirds of our group picked up points including easthockeydad, the only one to guess the score.

Heading into Saturday's full slate of games, we have a four-way tie for first:

1. mnhockey3535 - 6
THEBUCKSTOPSHERE - 6
wolfman - 6
Misterright - 6

5. MNHockeyFan - 5
u12dad - 5

Quick note: I will be out most of the day today and this evening. I'll try to wrap things up late when I return, assuming all the scores are in.

I am also adding a separate thread recapping all the 1st place winners during the season, so for those of you who are tied going into Weeks 10 and 11 that will be your final opportunity to be crowned our "2005-06 Minnesota Girls Hockey Regular Season Prognosticator Champion". 8)

Some great games played on the ice today, and many lead changes and bonus points awarded in our Week 9 contest. The scores and contest notes:

Dodge County 3, #3A St. Paul United 2 (OT)
The only real big upset according to our panel. Only 4 of 24 had Dodge County winning, but two of those - wolfman and nu2hockey - also called the score.

East Grand Forks 1, Spring Lake Park/Coon Rapids 3
The Panthers were a near unanimous choice, garnering 22 winner votes. Perfect scores and bonus points go to THEBUCKSTOPSHERE, rascalbrock, u12dad and READYtoPLAY.

Edina 7, Wayzata 1
Two-thirds favored the Hornets to win, but nobody foresaw their goal explosion against a team that seems to have lately lost their mojo.

Cretin-Derham Hall 5, Forest Lake 2
17 of 24 picked the Raiders to win, but nobody had them scoring more than 4 goals.

Hill-Murray 4, Maple Grove 1
All but two went with the #1AA and still undefeated Pioneers. And their were EIGHT who called the score: wolfman, MNHockeyFan, massalsa, LZ94, easthockeydad, Misterright, and nu2hockey.

Eden Prairie 2, Minnetonka 3
Welcome back Presley Norby! ;) (hat trick)
As with the Edina/Wayzata game, two-thirds (16/24) picked the higher rated team to win, but unlike that Lake Conference game there were multiple bonus points awarded, to: Sparlimb, mnhockey3535, wolfman and READYtoPLAY.

Eagan 2, Lakeville South 3
The Cougars were a solid choice, having been favored by 17 of our contestants. This time, there were SIX who added a bonus point for getting the score right: THEBUCKSTOPSHERE, MNHockeyFan, panpan111, The Bone, Misterright and nu2hockey.

Elk River/Zimmerman 1, Blaine 4
Our only other "upset" of the final Week 9 day, albeit a minor one, with 12 having gone with the Elks, 10 with the Bengals, and two who thought they would tie. Only the third of our eight games today where no bonus points were given out.

So, after our HUGE final day, congratulations go to wolfman who ended up picking the winners of 12 of this week's 18 games while also getting the scores right in three of those games. For his efforts he moves into the season leader group with three weekly wins.

Final standings for Week 9:

1. wolfman - 15 points (12/18 + 3)

2. THEBUCKSTOPSHERE - 14 (12/18 + 2)
MNHockeyFan - 14 (11/18 + 3)

4. mnhockey3535 - 12
The Bone - 12
massalsa - 12
easthockeydad - 12

8. clutterbucket - 11
Misterright - 11
READYtoPLAY - 11
nu2hockey - 11

12. Sparlimb - 10
u12dad - 10
Hansonbrother - 10
panpan111 - 10
hockeybozo - 10

17. glovesareoff - 9

18. Three with 8
21. Two with 7
