Thanks for finding the link Playa, very interesting reading.
I grew up in the great northwest, in a basketball town. We used to play some hockey, no equipment but sticks and skates, couldn't lift the puck because nobody had goalie pads. I remember hearing about the Sargent's in Bemidji, and Serge Gambucci and Fido Purpur in GF. Remember getting beer tended by Fido at Judy's Tavern in GF in his later years. What a character.
Because all the television stations were in the Red River Valley, I remember North Dakota tournaments more than Minnesota. Remember Serge coaching GF Central. The Central teams were very good, and hockey in Eastern ND is still better than the cidiots give them credit for today.
I remember a state final game that took 6 or 7 overtimes against GF Red River. The goalie on that team was Lindsey Whalen's (Gopher Women BB) dad.
Also remember hearing about this kid from Roseau at a very early age, they said he was going to be a good one, Neal Broten.
And later, George Pelawa from Bemidji, had phenomenal potential, but was killed in an accident the summer after High School. |

| Dont really know much about the history. Was a girls school till the seventies. Didnt get real good at hockey till 97-98?? They had many good players in the late nineties, LeMere, Hengen, Kaiser, Eddy in goal. And the last four years have been history.. Go Buffs |

Bluesbuddy...I have attempted to decypher(SP?) your message best I cold.
I know who you are reffering too when you speak of "da beer man", me and him have a little "history" you could say. You know, the things I did as a child weren't to intelligent...needless to say me and "da beer man" have not said a word to eachother since the incident, though "da beer family" are family friends. So he is not the one I got the goalie information from, honestly I do not know who it was, some guy just dropped some info into my ezInbox.
So slappy was numero quatro? Hopefully "da beer man's" son brings glory with it next year.
Since me and "da beer man" no longer converse, I do not beleive I can send him the message...not quite old enough to be hittin the bar's yet. Blues...I have no idea who you are, I have heard rumer's you may have relations to the window factory, but other than that...I have no clue.
So the "hammerheads", "how-guns", and "da beer family" are all related the the blood running through their vains....but what does videoscout have to do with this? Moorhead sets a new state tournament record! |
