Class AA State Tournament - Seeding and Quarterfinals

Post by MNHockeyFan »

I posted a similar thread for Class A earlier; here’s one for AA.

The State Tournament teams:
1AA: Lakeview South
2AA: Eden Prairie
3AA: Eastview
4AA: Hill-Murray
5AA: Maple Grove
6AA: Edina
7AA: Forest Lake
8AA: Sartell/Sauk Rapids

Based solely on the latest (February 10th) Let’s Play Hockey rankings, the five seeded teams would be:
#1 – Hill-Murray
#2 – Edina
#3 – Eden Prairie
#4 – Maple Grove

#5 – Lakeville South

In the latest (January 31st) KRACH, it was the same:

#1 – Hill-Murray
#2 – Edina
#3 – Maple Grove
#4 – Eden Prairie

#5 – Lakeville South

Which team is seeded #3 rather than #4 is important, because #4 would likely (?) play #5 (Lakeville South?) in their first game, as opposed to one of the three unseeded teams - which would appear to be one of Eastview, Forest Lake or Sartell/Sauk Rapids - as the result of a random draw. Of course, the best team goes on to win it no matter what, but how easy, or how hard, the road to the Championship can make a difference.

Thoughts on any of this?

Edited 2/12/16 to correct Section 7AA winner and seeding implications

As already said Elk River/Zimmerman was beat by Forest Lake, so that would slide Lakeville into the 5 spot. I think it would be interesting to see an updated KRACH ranking as I would imagine EP's score went up with big wins over CC, Tonka and ERZ in past couple weeks. They also finished above Edina in Lake Conference standings I think seeding 2-4 looks to be a bit messy.

EP will get credit for it's conference and beating Tonka.

I know they claim 6-8 is random, but its interesting how number 8 always seems to play #1...
