Single-season and career records

Post by dueling21 » Wed Jan 31, 2018 2:56 pm

I'm trying to put together a list of the top single-season and career numbers in Minnesota girls' high school hockey as part of a project to get the Breakdown's first-ever girls' hockey guidebook off the ground this year. I've been publishing the boys' book for 10 years now and it's time to get the girls the same coverage.

Certainly, there are fewer seasons to dig through, but the record-keeping isn't as consistent as on the boys' side. From a few hours of digging today, I've found this:

scoring - GAME

I've already picked up a few additions from more research:

Andrea Nichols with 267-184--451 career totals (and 65-54--119 as a senior)
Renee Curtin with 332-212-544 career totals
Ronda Curtin with 249-216--465 career totals

Sarah Ahlquist with 19 shutouts in 1999 for South St. Paul

Here's one to add to the goaltending records.

Taylor DeForrest (Apple Valley) made 111 saves in a 6 OT post-season loss to East Ridge. I believe it was February 3, 2016.

While I don't know the specifics I believe Dani Cameranesi may have had over 300 points during her career and 125 or more assists

I would like to say about Krissy Wendell and Natalie Darwitz.

All those goals, assists and points were accomplishments (Krissy) were done in 57 high school games (2 years). Natalie Darwitz in 7th though 10th grade (4 years).

Hard to say. They played at a time when the competition wasn't the same as it is today. There are far more teams that can stop players that go coast to coast. Both of them were incredible and I was happy to watch them play. I just question whether they'd put up the same numbers today. They'd still be top players in state, just not quite as dominant.

Agree with everything said here. I do recall Krissy being able to go coast-to-coast nearly every time she had the energy, meaning that she was out there pretty much the whole game and rarely got a rest. But she was still dominate when she got to the U, although obviously not to the same degree because the competition was so much better. Still, she was consistently the most dynamic player whenever she was on the ice.

Darwitz was simply a scoring machine, with the most "hockey sense" of any female player in the State. Her skills seemed instinctive, knowing where to be and exactly what do with the puck that would result in a goal being scored. She had a better supporting cast than Krissy so it was not always up to her to be the one to get the goal.

It's always hard (impossible?) to compare players of different eras, and maybe especially so in girls hockey which has seen such rapid advancement from those early years. Even so if you saw them both play it's hard to argue that there have been any better players to come along ever since.

Three summers ago Krissy and Natile along with 10 other players filled in when a team had to cancel out of a summer tournament down in Eagan. I believe CDH, Eagan and one of the Lakeville schools. They totally dominated. Hammered all of the other teams. The results were long after they stopped playing competitively. Easily the best to ever come out of the state.
