Beat them without Tonka having #3 D Josh Luedtke, available to play... he has scored 2 goals tonight for Tonka. In any event, it should be a GREAT GAME! 😉😎

Just checked the box score from that game, East didnt have Klieve in net yet, and also had a few players out.

Game video of Duluth East's 4-2 victory over Tonka earlier this season at Pagel. I watched it live and Duluth East played "heavy" in the words of Luke Loheit, taking the Skippers out of their game:

Here's Loheit on the Youth Hockey Hub podcast briefly talking about the game (jump to 7:55):

To very physical teams. Should be a good game. But how many soft goals will the Tonka goalie give up? If he plays well, I think Tonka will win. If he doesn't, then its DE.

I’ll go 4-3 Tonka in double OT. It’s a Final, so it’s only fitting to have multiple overtimes.

I was at the DE vs Tonka game at Pagel. It’s true Hansen played (& played very well) that day in net for DE. Also true that Klieve is on a roll (now). But to put things in perspective, Luedtke not playing for Tonka...is essentially the equivalent of (Reed Larson winner) LaMaster not playing for DE...that’s how good Luedtke is. Another excellent D for Tonka is Docter...who’s Dad (interestingly) is from Duluth 😊 This game could go either way & the Klieve vs Glockner battle in net...may tell the story. Also, with his performance all season & now at the State Tourney...#5 Worth’s dark horse chance of winning Mr Hockey have improved IMO...although Walker is still the front runner...with one furlough to go!

Yes Tonka has many similarities to Edina re game plan. But Hounds will have to contend with one thing that is very unique. A kid by the name of Bobby Brink. 200 foot player with skills in every aspect of the game. Breakaway scoring threat obviously. But more frequently, battling in the corners on the forecheck to recapture the puck, or battling someone bigger in the low slot to maintain position for the quick shot in congestion or the tip. Picks his passes patiently.
Smart disrupting things in Dzone, and looking for breakout Gets most faceoffs. Absolutely relentless on whole shift. Has a strong leadership presence on ice even though only a sophomore. Could go on and on. Course , the hounds saw him already at Tonka this year, so they know he is the whole package.

Keys to this one:

-As other have noted, goaltending
-Who can be more physical without going over the edge
-Does Tonka try to line-match?
-The Tonka D: they're very active in the offensive zone, which is great when they're controlling possession, but they range forward enough that a team that can break out effectively against them is going to get its share of chances. It's something to watch.

Let's do it.

Tonka has scored more shorties this season than PP goals allowed. Putting one of their own players in the box seems to open the ice for them. I can't tell you how many times I've seen Brink and Bayless get free for breakaway opportunities short-handed. It happened last night before the end of the second period (no goal), and then after the intermission, Brink got open again and put it in the net with a nice fake on the goalie.

EDIT: Here is State of Hockey's Bart Archer basically saying the same thing, right before Brink's short-handed goal last night:

Brink is a fun player to watch, as has been said many times. For a good read back when he was a squirt, click below:

Well said as usual Karl

Good point about Tonka D carrying the puck in deep. Better be careful ,otherwise Worth will be lurking.

And Fisher needs to stay out of box

Expecting big game out of Lyle tonight, predict will have a couple points, and help to contain Brink

Molenaar for Tonka will be a key to their success tonite. Way too underrated.

There's a lot of tickets out there on Craigslist and the scalpers will also have plenty but be ready to pay $50/ticket for lower level.
