The St. Cloud newspaper speculates on possible candidates:

Well, it looks like Minnesota will be destined for first round NCAA losses for the foreseeable future

I was a bit surprised by the hire given Motzko”s age (57) and the length of his tenure at St. Cloud, but there weren’t any really great younger candidates out there and he certainly built SCSU into a power with fewer resources.

From a high school hockey perspective, it will be interesting to see how the verbal commitments may change amongst the two schools. Motzko really improved the talent level at SCSU, and they started landing higher level MN players.

Another coaching update, with Northern Michigan re-upping Potunly for eight years:

"TV6 has learned from Mining Journal Sportswriter Ryan Stieg that NMU Hockey Head Coach Grant Potunly has signed an eight-year deal with the Wildcats that reportedly will be worth $285,000 per season."

So, at least it will be an improvement then.

A) Why would the Golden Rats hire a coach who can't win an NCAA tournament game?

B) Why would Motz take a step down to an inferior league?

He didn't. He left the inferior league to join the Big 10.

BTW has anyone ever had half their league in the Frozen Four before?

2005 was all WCHA - Minnesota, Denver, North Dakota, and CC were all in the Frozen Four.

Didja manage to score a ticket to the B1G Mistake Conference Tournament this year? I forget, where was it? The X? That new fangled arena in Detroit? Madison Square Garden?

Must have been a big arena to hold a crowd that size.

Well there you go, "all" is not "half".

But yes, the WCHA had two final four teams many times. It's not all that rare.

Uh, just curious, what's that got to do with the B1G Mistake having 2 teams in this year?

And ran away with the conference championship and the conference tournament, earning the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament.

So of the 7 teams in the conference the B1G has 3 that made it to the Frozen Four.

Technically SCSU was #1 overall but it was close

So is John Hopkins in Lacrosse . You are grasping at straws to justify Notre Dame. The Irish are an ACC team but the ACC doesn't play hockey.

How is that grasping at straws? We are talking about hockey and they are literally in the conference.

If butts in the seats is any measure, the Big 10 is a B1G Mistake. And i don't care to hear this condescending crap that I should "get over it and move on."
If my favorite restaurant changes the menu and no longer serves my favorite dishes, I get over it by moving on to another establishment. I get it, they killed the golden goose, but that doens't obligate me to like the ensuing lesser product as much as I did the old one. It's extremely naive to expect people to get as excited for Penn State as they did when the Susies, uh, I mean Hawks (talk about not getting over it) were in town

Last year I heard Lucia on KFAN, talking about how they'd like to get with the other conference and have some sort of super regional sort of thing for the playoff tournaments. Great Don. You guys screwed it up[ for everyone, and you expect them to rescue you and your crappy tournament that draws 3K at the gate. You started a conference where geography works against you.

And here's the important point: NO ONE THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA. But they went ahead anyway. Like a football/basketball conference cares about hockey anyway.

And you said I get dumber by the post. I must ask- what does John Hopkins have to do with Notre Dame playing hockey in the Big 10? Please forgive me for not having a clue.
