Totino Grace going AA
Heard this is the plan a few times now.. Just a rumor?
Re: Totino Grace going AA
The next 2 year cycle - which will be 2019-2020 - they will be moving up.MrBoDangles wrote:Heard this is the plan a few times now.. Just a rumor?

Thanks. I can see them becoming a much stronger program with the lack of private schools in the north metro and the declining state of a few of the public schools. It will be interesting...BP wrote:The next 2 year cycle - which will be 2019-2020 - they will be moving up.MrBoDangles wrote:Heard this is the plan a few times now.. Just a rumor?
TG to AA
Would likely be the 9th team in Section 5AA and 70th AA team overall for the 2019-2020 season, barring any other changes. Current 5AA teams include:
Anoka High School
Blaine High School
Centennial High School
Champlin Park High School
Coon Rapids High School
Maple Grove High School
Spring Lake Park High School
Coop: 342 "Osseo H.S."
Maranatha Christian Academy
Osseo High School (HOST)
Park Center High School
Anoka High School
Blaine High School
Centennial High School
Champlin Park High School
Coon Rapids High School
Maple Grove High School
Spring Lake Park High School
Coop: 342 "Osseo H.S."
Maranatha Christian Academy
Osseo High School (HOST)
Park Center High School

Looks like it’s time to kick the Cougars back to 4AA...where they’ve always really belonged.blueblood wrote:Would likely be the 9th team in Section 5AA and 70th AA team overall for the 2019-2020 season, barring any other changes. Current 5AA teams include:

TG
Centennial moving to 4AA as karl suggests would put 4AA at 10 teams and 5AA would stay at 8 teams.
Probably not likely to happen unless other teams opt-up, co-ops are created (NSP & Tartan?), and/or the 2 year attendance cycle changes the current geographic arrangement of sectional team placement.
Remember, minor section adjustments happen every 2 years with major realignment occurring every 6 years, where the process starts from scratch and the pins are set to "minimize travel" when creating sections.
All MSHSL teams are year 1 into the current 6-year cycle.

Re: TG to AA
Maybe, but it also depends on what Hermantown decides to do. Presumably the goal would be to have sections with nine or eight teams. One of the metro teams would be moved out of 7AA if HT opts up, and Andover would be the most likely suspect, with 5AA being the destination given that they are in the Anoka district. Bumping Centennial to 4AA makes geographic sense, but that section already has nine teams. That leaves us with a conundrum, in that 2AA and 8AA are the only other current eight team sections, and none of the 5AA teams easily slot into those. So there could be some major shifts in alignments based on TG and HT potentially opting up to AA after next season.blueblood wrote:Would likely be the 9th team in Section 5AA and 70th AA team overall for the 2019-2020 season, barring any other changes. But what programs does TG draw from? Traditionally it was places like Irondale, Mounds View, Brooklyn Park, Spring Lake Park, etc. As those programs have fallen off, so has TG to some extent (plus Irondale has been keeping their players). I know the current roster has a few kids from Rogers, but that is mostly the result of that program stumbling at the Bantam and HS level lately. I just don’t see the path to TG becoming an AA power anytime soon.MrBoDangles wrote:Thanks. Yeah.. it's very strange since they always used to be very good and actually got by STA (huge roadblock) a time or two.. So to be on the weaker side, now when the path is easier, is a head scratcher.. They used to get plenty of the best Cambridge and North Branch kids in their tournament appearances. Also a couple fairly high end Maple Grove and Blaine kids in the past. Gentry could also hurt their future success when thinking about it..Stang5280 wrote:But what programs does TG draw from? Meh......
Enrolments will change before the next enlightenment Northfield should be AA which will alter the whole alignment anyhow.
Eventually Roseau will give up on AA, a couple of the Rochester schools will be F/R lunch rate put down to A.....my guess us is we are a couple of years from a nearly entirely a metro AA class.....like 6A football.
