2002-2003 High School Players Needed for 2019 17U Bandy World Championships

Hey high school hockey fans,

We are looking for approximately five 2002/2003 birth year high school hockey players to fill out our 17U USA National Team for the 2019 Bandy World Championships. Bandy, or Russian Hockey, is played on a rink the size of a soccer field and 11 vs 11 like soccer. (Note - if your skater has a basic understanding of soccer, they will have no problem crossing over from hockey to bandy). Opponents will be Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Germany. Here is your chance to wear a Team USA sweater in a world championship!

The World Championships for 2019 will be played in Arkhangelsk, Russia. Under Federation of International Bandy rules, the home country pays for food, lodging, and transportation (once the competing teams arrive in the capital city). So, the cost of the trip will be airfare, visa, and incidental (USA teamwear, practice ice), etc. Possible extra cost if team decides to stay in Moscow for 1-2 days to see Red Square, St. Basils, etc.

Most likely travel dates will be: March 11 or 12 --- return on March 19th. Tournament will be March 14-16, 2019.

Here is video from 2018 17 Finals between Russia and Sweden. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlBh8VPbS2E

The Russians do these tournaments well - with great opening and closing ceremonies/banquets. For the players, it is a chance to make some lifetime friends from other countries. Arkhangelsk is a historic Russian city located north of Moscow on the White Sea.

Please pass this on to any high school skaters that are 2002 or 2003 birth year. We have 11 players on the roster and are looking to round out the final 5 players. There will be practices and a game or two prior to the World Championships to allow players opportunity to learn the intricacies of the game. Skaters should be high JV or Varsity level players.

Interested parties looking for more information should contact Rick Haney at rwhaney@charter.net or Private Message me.
