Re: Games Saturday 2/9/19
Friday score Greenway 6, Johnson 1. Greenway outshot Johnson 52-14. Johnson took a lot of bad penalties including a boarding call.
Re: Games Saturday 2/9/19
Greenway is coming on strong, must be healthy for the most part and settled off-ice differences.

Re: Games Saturday 2/9/19
Orono 1, Mound Westonka 0 after one
Shots 10-5 Orono
Update: Orono scores twice to go up 3-0
More importantly, the Mound announcer just dropped a GD-it bomb on air, which was hilarious.
Update:
Orono wins 4-0
Slight shot advantage for Orono, but they had far more quality scoring chances and generally controlled play.

BSM vs EP is actually at 7pm (dam) I’ll be at Skippers sailing to Braemar
Re: Games Saturday 2/9/19
According to the Alexandria Twitter account, Alexandria 2, East Grand Forks 0. Not sure if that is final or not.

Re: Games Saturday 2/9/19
I’m surprised no one has mentioned the Mahtomedi 6-2 win over Cathedral yet. That margin of victory is a shocker, especially after how poorly Mahtomedi played against STA earlier in the week. Rankings are going to be difficult this week.

Yet another Class A upset: Mankato West 5, Sartell 3.

Any updates on HF and Denfeld game at Mariucci? No updates on HF’s social media since beginning of game so guessing they haven’t scored.

Tonka 1, Edina 0 after 1. Goal from Docter on a shot from the point that went in off a Hornet. On the whole, a strong period from the Skippers, who looked better than they have in my other recent viewings of them.

Re: Games Saturday 2/9/19
GREAT GAME tonight at Braemar, must have been over 2,000 in attendance! Edina 3 (en) Tonka 1 Edina 3rd line pitched in a goal early in the 3rd period and that proved to be the difference. Both teams played well, Edina sophomore goalie went toe to toe with likely FB award winner Glockner. Hopefully they play one more time at Xcel

Re: Games Saturday 2/9/19
The packed house at Braemar got its money's worth tonight. Both teams are rock-solid defensively, so it took just one little let-up from Tonka for Edina's third line to slip in that go-ahead tally. Edina's forwards did a better job of carrying play than Tonka's...so much of the Skippers' offense runs through that top D pair, and that can be limiting, especially on a night when they only had one power play. The Hornets, I think, are doing a better job of playing as a unit this season, as they've been tested more and actually have to play lockdown defense late in big games instead of watching the clock tick away in running time. They did a good job of protecting Hogg. Certainly wouldn't be surprised to see these two meet again in March, though Tonka will need to rediscover its offense or their season will end at Mariucci.

Re: Games Saturday 2/9/19
Spot on. Tonka offense not threatening and Edina did a great job of keeping them on the outside and letting Hogg make the routine saves. It is incredible that Doctor and Luedke were the biggest offensive threats in last nights game. The offense better start figuring things out otherwise, Karl you're right we won't be seeing Tonka in March. Scoring changes Edina had roughly 15 legitimate changes with Tonka having maybe half of that. Glockner was Tonka's best player again. Hogg is going to be solid come his senior season. Pretty good showing from the sophomore. Edina definitely deserves the #1 but I sure do hope we get to see a rematch.karl(east) wrote: ↑Sat Feb 09, 2019 10:34 pm The packed house at Braemar got its money's worth tonight. Re: Games Saturday 2/9/19
Excellent summaries of Tonka Edina game! A true high skill defensive battle with few errors. Ive seen several D1 contests this year of lower quality. Hard to remember a clean two pass sequence crossing either blue line, much less any odd man rushes or blown D coverage. Hornets showed discipline to minimize time in the box, which was a must. Tonka put on a surge in the last 5 minutes but Hogg came up strong and managed to control rebounds better than earlier in the contest.. Luedtke is unbelievable, late in the game he outmaneuvered 3 hornets to go deep into the slot to try to tie the game on his own- jaw dropping.
Biggest highlite of the night however was me introducing Hockey 59 to CakeScout! Talk about a matchup of Top 10 hockey pundits! Memorable in its own right. Although I had to leave them shortly after the intro when realizing I was clearly in the lower top 50. Well done boys!

Re: Games Saturday 2/9/19
First off, you are way to modest WMAside from the Gopher vs Bulldog season openers the last 2 seasons at Amsoil, the mix of excitement & quality players featured in this “regular season” game was unmatched for me. Braemar was full, the on ice lighting is terrific, Giles team with non starting players on the bench for introductions & the national anthem, a PA system & announcer that is top notch, just a 1st class venue & two teams that respect but don’t exactly like each other. Game easily could have went Tonka’s way too, a rush by Edina 3rd line and what looked like a fortunate bounce for the Hornets proved decisive. And while this Edina team lacks the flash of 2018, 2015, 2014 or 2013 (they are BETTER than the 2010 Champs IMO). Overall, Edina is rock solid defensively, Hogg made some quality saves too (although true, Glockner had to make more) and Nevers & Jungel on one line & Malquist & Delaney on the other will put any team on their heels. Thought as a center Nevers played particularly well defensively Tonka will be in the 2AA Final, no doubt & then have to face Chaska or EP on the bandy sized rink. Should be an exciting section final to say the least. I think Tonka’s forwards will come alive, but without Brink, Molinear & Loheit (similar to Duluth East) Tonka has to win against quality teams in a much different manner this year, compared to last year. So now the target is back on the Hornets (as is their custom) but as long as their goaltending continues to hold up, they’ll be playing at Xcel in March too, book it!
