Re: Minnesota Hockey Fall 2021 meeting
Curious if there was talk at the meeting about USAH implementing immediate offside at the bantam level? Is it possible for MN Hockey to overrule/ignore this and allow for tag-up offside at the bantam level? (And peewee level for that matter - it's a stupid rule at both levels.)

Rule changes were discussed at June meeting.Eagles93 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 4:29 pm Curious if there was talk at the meeting about USAH implementing immediate offside at the bantam level? Immediate off-side will be implemented this year.
MH did not ask for an exemption this time around and doubt it would be given.
If you want I will bring it up and perhaps something will be done on the next 2 year cycle.
Re: Minnesota Hockey Fall 2021 meeting
Thanks for the reply. I really don't understand the logic behind this change. Sure, it theoretically teaches the kids to be in better control of the puck, don't dump it in, blah, blah. USAH also emphasizes ice time and puck touches. When there is a whistle every 20 seconds because the puck accidentally crosses the line, it's a huge waste of ice time. Too much emphasis on development is sadly eating into the fun of the game.elliott70 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 10:18 am Rule changes were discussed at June meeting.

My kids are above the age affected by this change now, I just remember being so annoyed at it at the Peewee level, and was so relieved to avoid the endless whistles once they got to the bantam level.
Re: Minnesota Hockey Fall 2021 meeting
Also, I predict this rule will be changed by the next 2-year cycle simply from complaints. I'm guessing not many coaches and parents are aware of this change yet, once the season starts they'll be up in arms. Like this guy:

Re: Minnesota Hockey Fall 2021 meeting
Our youth rules should be in favor of the MSHSL as that is the level most of our kids will top out at. Otherwise maybe bantams should be allowed to wear visors and fight like they are in juniors. MInnhock needs to pick a direction. Is it the MSHSL (NFHS) or USA hockey? Minnesota has a high school model that is far superior to every USA hockey model in terms of participating kids.
