Section 3A Final (2/28/24)- #5 Marshall vs #2 New Ulm
New Ulm swept the season series with Marshal with ease. However, Marshall is on a cinderella run in the 3A postseason. Who wins?

#2 seed New Ulm Eagles (21-5-1)
New Ulm enters the 3A Final for the 3rd straight year and they are looking to finally punch their ticket back to state which would be their first appearance since 2019. The Eagles have been getting steadily better all season and they, unlike last year, will have their key player healthy for the Section Final. They met Marshall twice this year sweeping them and they have not lost to the Tigers since Jan 10th, 2019 going (10-0-0) vs them in the last 5 years making them the favorite in this one as they are looking for their 7th State Appearance.
Eagles Leaders- Seniors #5 Austin Uecker (36-37-73 pts), #21 Kaden Larson (25-29-54 pts) & #22 Bryer Lang (19-32-51 pts) are the trio of veterans that lead the Eagles two line attack. Senior #18 Landon Barstad (3-13-16 pts) and converted forward to defenseman Junior #10 Ian Brudelie (15-15-30 pts) are the top defensive pair that have been key to getting New Ulm out of their own end.
Eagles Goalie- Senior #1 Bryer Hoffmann (17-5-0) 2.18 GAA .912 SV% enters this game with 3 years of experience in the net and he has over 1000 career saves and has played in these big games in the past and will be ready in goal.
Eagles Senior Class- The Eagles senior class has been on the doorstep of state for the last two years only to come up just short in the Section Final. New Ulm has gone (65-16-2) over their three years and with all that success the only thing missing is a trip to the Tourney something this group wants to leave as part of their legacy and they will be locked in and ready to put those past demons to bed in this Section 3A Final.
Eagles Special Teams- The Power Play is at 27.6% and Penalty Kill is at 81.2%
#5 seed Marshall Tigers (16-11-0)
Marshall enters the 3A Final on a Cinderella playoff run having knocked off higher seeded Mankato West and then shocking top seeded Luverne to get back to the Section 3A Final for the 1st time since 2017. Marshall has been able to play extremely well in their own end and they block a ton of shots and clog lanes well. They have just scored enough to get the lead and then lock down things from there. They will look to shock everyone again and win one more game to get back to the state for the 1st time since 2013.
Tigers Leaders- Juniors #16 Owen Renslow (30-22-52 pts) & #10 Jacob Johnson (12-19-31 pts) and Seniors #9 Andrew Seanor (16-15-31 pts) & #11 Chase Mellenthin (8-13-21 pts) lead the way on offense for Marshall. Senior #7 Talan Plante (24-29-53 pts) is the heart and soul of this team playing mega minutes as a defenseman and he is the school’s all time defensive point leader and their best player
Tigers Goalie- Senior #33 Gavin Welsh (10-10-0) 3.07 GAA .881 SV% is a veteran with plenty of experience in net and he has been at his absolute best during this Section 3A playoff run and he will look to steal a state bid in net.
Tigers 2013 Deja Vu- This Tiger group has to have a little bit a of deja vu feeling for Coach Weiss as a little over a decade ago, in his 1st year as an Assistant Coach, the 2013 Marshall Tigers made their only Tourney appearance in program history when they made a run as the low seed after shocking many by knocking off heavily favored #1 seed Luverne in the Semis en route to that State Berth.
