Ms. Goalie 2006

Lots of "pre-season" speculation...

As a side note - I've talked about the notion of top 10/then top 5 Ms. D, Ms. G, And Ms. F and then picking a Ms. Hockey out of the final 3 winners of the D/F/G award before... I think this would be best, as many would argue D don't get recognized enough, and also that D & G should be able to be called "Ms. Hockey" - not just F's (or D from time-to-time)...

I would say that this list below is the starting point for narrowing the list... Amy Burke from crookston should be on this list, in 3rd year has had outstanding stats, as senior this year in 4 games since we have to of the top goalies, switch off so far in the season, so Amy's stats are PCT.970 goals against 0.25 with 3 shut outs in four games

Tough to get a good shot at awards when you split games. Crookston needs to slide in a decent team every now and then as well. You can only win soo many 10-0 games before people question who is doing the scheduling. The Warroad game was big and Crookston lost a good one.

Who is playing the tough games and winning them as well should be a big factor for the award...

Unfortunately class A hockey usually gets over looked when it comes to top tenders. In general they are viewed upon as a lower level of hockey compared to AA. There is a lack of good quality competition in outstate Mn. The better teams need to travel to the metro ect. to fill in the gaps to get more exposure & to promote their players. It looks like Crookston has done some of this in 2005 -2006 but needs to do more. It's like Rodney said " I get no respect"

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... eysense at: 12/9/05 1:06 pm

The numbers Danika Porter has put up so far are dazzling. And shje has not played as well as down the stretch last year yet, so its going to be fun to see what type of numbers she may up when she catches fire. Very, very steady. This kid is awesome when the pressure heightens.

I've always been a fan of Porters, from her days back at Rosemount, and now on to SSP. @ Rosemount she put up some amazing numbers and faced a ton of shots each night. And with her performance @ SSP this just adds to the resume. I think she has to be a top candidate for Ms. Goalie.

I know I've said it before, but a good team needs to start and work from the net out.

I think a good question to be asked about a candidate for Ms. Goalie has to be someone who has shown steady and consistant play between the pipes.

Its not the goals against average or how many wins one might have, but more important is the saves percentage over a number of years not just one season.

A team that allows fewer shots because of a better defence or a team that splits games between tenders so one gets the easy games to pad the stats also needs to be looked at.

Ms. Goalie should be someone who would change the outcome of a game if she did not play by her performance. Like Ms. Hockey an impact player.

I would like to know how many years the player has been a starter, games played, and shots / saves to get on the list.

I know things are going by fast and with Christmas and all, but any further discussion of Ms. Goalie candidates....alot of games played and more to come but maybe after the holiday tournaments we could have a better idea of who is setting the standard for this honor.

The teams with a great defense don't allow for many shots on goal and don't reflect how good the goalie is. I have watched many many games in my life that the goalie see only 15-20 shots on goal and none are realy quality scoring chances but the stats look like a brick wall, only to see that change if the defense is not up to par. The real test of any goaltender is the average of saves over time and not just against the top teams. A good goalie will make the quality stops time and time again.

turdpolisher
Registered Member
Posts: 4
(2/10/06 8:02 am)
Reply Re: Senior Goalie Info
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From the Pioneer Press 2/10/06

The 5 finalists for senior goalie of the year :
LAUREN BRADEL - BEMIDJI
MICKEY JOBMAN - CRETIN - DERHAM HALL
ALANNAH McCREADY - CENTENNIAL
BREANNA SCAVO - NORTH ST. I would vote for Mickey Jobman (CDH). I think the other goalies had much stronger players in front of them. She was directly responsible for many of CDH's wins.

Check your stats, McCready has played 988 minutes (about 19 games), more than enough.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... xk1>xk1 at: 2/21/06 1:32 pm

It would seem that we should look at a side-by-side statistical comparison - including SOS of opponents faced game-by-game that stats were achieved...

I'll try to pull something together later...

Remember that stats alone don't determine this award though - at least as far as I'm aware anyway...

I truly believe Maddie Harroldson is one of the most underrated goalies out there, she plays in a conference that is virtually ignored and her skills are not seen. Maddie is as solid as it gets and it is not her fault that she only had a couple solid players in front of her to help her out. Last time I checked a bunch of odd man rushes and 2 and 3 on 0's aren't exactly in a goalies favor.
