This 08 class has some amazing forwards. That is what really sticks out to me. I try to see who I could cut from the list and the forwards are so thick. At those young ages though the kids that are puck handlers and scorers always stand out. The flashiness separates them. I don't think that I know which 8th grader you are talking about. But I am interested. I have a couple of guesses and it looks like you don't want to spill the beans.

Class of 08

Not too many have noticed her, but watch Rochester Mayo's Nara Higano. As a 9th grader last year, she could have already been the best D on the team. She drew a compliment from another team's coach at state; he thought she was the best player on the team.

That is 3 girls that the EP coach has actively recruited. How can this go on and what does the other players in line for those positions think? Or their parents.

defensedad-

What 3 players are you referring to? On another thread only two transfers were listed..Feste and Stoa. From what I have gathered from many previous posts (many from their former coach) several kids were leaving the Kennedy program and were entertaining many schools to switch to.....

Westberg...AHA
Jonasson...Jefferson
Jacka....Eagan
Feste...EP
Stoa...EP

Are you going to say the coaches at Eagan, Jefferson, Holy Angels actively recruited those kids? Also, what about Trunzo to BSM, Sletten, Simonet to AHA, Windmeier to Coon Rapids, Koalska to Centennial....the list goes on and on. .....last year Lee to Wayzata, Tyra to Centennial, Scavo to NSP....we could go on all day...Why stop at EP?....call out all coaches who get transfers and accuse them of recruiting. How about Palmquist at SSP...they had 7 transfers on their State Title team last year!

C'mon let it go.....parents lobbied for open enrollment years ago. The MSHSL approved it, now it's parents who are complaining about it. Remember.....this is High School Hockey, not the NCAA's or NHL.

I still don't think that one of those listed is anything but rumor yet. We will have to wait for confirmation.

EP is not alone in the transfer situation. This is true.

I don't know that any kids are being recruited. In fact, I'd guess not. I think that kids flock to schools/programs that seem to fit their needs I guess.

EP will take a lot of heat this year because of the incommers. There is no way around that. People will forgive them if they can win it all. Just like SSP.

No we can't stop transfers... sadly.

Our program will be giving and recieving this year so for once I have seemed to come out on top.

Crap I feel bad for Tom Mac again.....

My kid has been *actively* recruited by an EP coach but we have declined.

If that is true!!!!

You MUST go to their AD and Head coach. That other coach needs to get canned. That program is and was good enough. Their program speaks for itself and does not need ACTIVE recruiting (especially staff???)

You must contact the MSHSL this needs to stop. They will do an investigation. Too many people are getting hurt form this type of activity.

If my hometown program or the coaches were doing it I would be ashamed and expect an investigation and firings.

OTHERWISE if you do not do something about it I would consider your comments null and void. Too mcuh gossip about this with noone taking action. If you can take action you owe it to your team and the sport.

You are part of the or part of the solution!

What would actions would be considered "active recruiting"? I am looking for a MSHSL definition, not opinion.

I don't work for the MSHSL!?

Don't get caught up in semantics! Let them do that. If it seems wrong it it is WRONG!

If they are acting outside the SPIRIT of the game and rules, they are wrong and something would happen.

MSHSL 763-560-2262

I am not interested in semantics either but it is also unfair to charge someone of something without knowledge of what constitutes recruiting. I found the following in the MSHSL bylaws...

UNDUE INFLUENCE ON STUDENTS

1. It shall be a violation for any school representative to exert
undue influence on students to participate on non-school
teams or to participate in camps, clinics, open gym,
captain’s practice or other activities. A School
representative shall not require or demand participation in a
camp or clinic or on a non-school team as a condition of
membership for a school team.
2. An alleged violation will require a letter of inquiry from the
League office. On the basis of the response from the
member school to the letter of inquiry, the Board of
Directors may choose to appoint a committee to conduct a
full investigation. It shall be an obligation of the member
school to cooperate with this investigating committee and to
provide all information pertinent to the investigation.
3. Penalty:
A confirmed violation will result in a fine to the member
school.
A. On the first offense, the fine shall be $500.
B. On the second offense, the fine shall be $750.
C. On the third offense, the fine shall be $1,000.
4. Appeal:
A Fair Hearing appeal shall be heard by an independent
hearing officer.

UNDUE SOLICITATION OF A STUDENT

1. Any verbal or written contact initiated by a representative of
another school soliciting the transfer of a high school
student or junior high school student to participate in a
sport will be considered as asserting undue influence, for
which the school may be publicly censured, removed from
tournament competition, or suspended from the League. If
the contact is initiated by an individual who is not a
representative of a school, that individual’s name shall be
recorded and a warning issued. If a further violation is
reported relative to this individual, they will be considered
to be a representative of the school, and the school may be
subject to a suspension from League-sponsored activities.
2. Unless reliable evidence to the contrary is presented, the
Board of Directors shall accept as prima facie evidence of
undue influence: awarding of tuition, allowance for board
and/or room, allowance for transportation, priority in
assignments of jobs, cash or gifts in any form, or any other
privilege or consideration accorded if not similarly available
to students not participating in athletics.
3. An alleged violation will require a letter of inquiry from the
League office. On the basis of the response to the member
school from the letter of inquiry, the Board of Directors may
choose to appoint a committee to conduct a full
investigation. It shall be an obligation of any member school
to cooperate with this investigating committee which shall
include a full disclosure of all records, scholarships, and
information pertinent to the investigation.
4. Penalty:
A. Student: Undue influence by any person connected or not
connected with the school which results in securing or
retaining the attendance of a student in a school shall
cause the student to be ineligible for one calendar year.
B. School: Any verbal or written contact initiated by a
representative of another school will be considered as
asserting undue influence, for which the school may be
1) publicly censured;
2) fined.
a) On the first offense, the fine shall be $500.
b) On the second offense, the fine shall be $750.
c) On the third offense, the fine shall be $1,000.
3) removed from tournament competition, or
4) suspended from the League.

I do understand that making a FORMAL complaint is a big step BUT again I say that if they knowingly (whether written or spoken) implied for a kid to come and play for them. That is the spirit or intent that they mean. So YES I would say it is a violation. If it was written or verbal and suggestive.

The fine would be small and a slap on the wrist BUT the message would be sent and that school would stop doing it.

If they are....

I like it...I'd put in Emily Erickson instead of Duffy. But that's just because I like the way she plays.

I should add that I debated on Duffy on my list above. I don't know enough about her - and haven't seen her play enough I guess.
