You're right, TJ Oshie is a "b" team player as well as Barry Tallackson, Kieth Ballard, the Pohl boys, and the rest of anyone who made it past hs and now is playing juniors, or D-1...........................

Nobody ever said that good players can't come from Class A schools. But, I think it's pretty obvious that among the top 50 teams in the state, a vast majority of them are AA teams. High school hockey supremecy is not determined by one or two individuals. Just as the 2002-03 Anoka Tornadoes.

Not to mention, Tallackson and Ballard left their Class A schools to play in the NTDP and Tom Pohl left his Class A team to play in the USHL. I'm not sure why you chose them as examples, when there were plenty of suitable examples who actually stayed the whole time at their schools.

They were the first to come to mind.............
Now you DID say something that is very interesting if not sad..........these players left for a completely higher level of hockey alltogether........they DID NOT go to AA, where according to you guys they should've tried as that would have been a much better environment........yeah right.........
It is sad because they could've waited and experienced ALLof high school, though for Tallackson, that whent down the tubes when he chose to leave for the cities adn Breck...........in any case the decisions are over and they are in the past........you are right that teams are mreo than individuals...........I give you that, but you did call class a "b" and "tier 2" given this, those players should be playing class aa hockey,( in your logic)unless Minnesota likes taking "b" players.............

It's just my opinion, but Hockey players are develeped in youth hockey, long before high schools get involved. To say a kid makes a D1 player because he went to Breck is a bit much, doesn't it matter if he came through the Edina youth hockey program. Breck, BSM, et.al. taking credit for producing D1 kids is stretching it a bit. You spend 3 years in high school, 10 or more in youth hockey.

Who has more single tourney Championships Warroad or a current 1AA team. It's pretty hard to talk about tradition when Olmsted county has more hardware than Warroad. Without the two class system Warroad wouldn't have a whole lot to brag about.

What does Jordan Leopold have to do with anything? He went to Armstrong back when they were truly terrible and then on to the NTDP. What's the point?

Let's all try to remember(how could we forget), 1321 goes to Duke and scored well over 30 on his ACT's as he so boldly told us all. Don't pick a fight that he thinks you cannot win. I suppose Spuds 4, Warriors 2 is with the grain, eh?

This is why the Class A title is nowhere near as significant as the AA title. You need to win at least 2 games (if you are from some sections, you have to win at least 4) against teams of Moorhead's caliber to win the title, and Warroad has won zero in 2 tries, one of which was at home.

The loss on Saturday only proves again why Warroad chose class A in the first place. They never could win the big Title and never will. With playing at "The house the Marvin's built" being good for four goals to the home team, the actual score would have been more like 8-2 on neutral ice.

Warroad has only played 2 top ten AA teams, and they lost them both. One of these losses was at home. That is not the sign of a state champ. Sure, a state champ can lose games, but they win the games they play against the best teams when it counts. Since Warroad will not face a team of Moorhead's caliber the rest of the season until, maybe, the A championship (depending on how good you consider Moorhead to be), they have failed in their only 2 tests.

As for the description of the A tournament being 2-3 very good teams that could maybe win the AA tournament sounding a lot like the AA tournament, no, that's entirely incorrect. Every year, there are 7 teams that have a legitimate chance to win the state tourney (this year there will be 6, of course, thanks to 2AA), while the Class A tourney has only 2 or 3, and only 1 or 2 that would stand a chance against those 8 state AA teams. Not to mention, there will be 3-4 schools in several AA sections that would be the favorite to win the A tournament if they were in it. The loser of the 3AA and 6AA championship game (and probably the loser in a couple of those semis) would still be better than 5-6 of those A teams and still have probably be favored against any of them. And that, friends, goes entirely with the grain.

petey,
You cant prove any of that.
But whether we are dead serious, tongue in cheek or head up you know what, you have to admit that this year is a little different. We dont have a big difference in talent between the top A teams and the top AA teams. The games this year prove that.

When was the last time SLP beat Edina? BSM over HM? Edina is not that great of a team, see the Eden Prairie game for proof, they have been a bit overhyped this year. They give up their zone way too easy, putting way to much pressure on Hylok. I have seen them 3 times, they are good but very beatable. Odds are they won't get out of their section. Close wins over below .500 teams like Grand Rapids, Burnsville and Century prove that they are not world beaters by any means. To hold any one team up as the next coming of the Jaguars this year is a bit much. Using HM to further any argument in parity between A and AA is stretching it a bit because HM is an A school who plays in 3AA.

Warroad has played 2 quality teams and been beaten twice, better than 99.5% of the teams in the state is a laughable statement. They are what they are a darn good class A team nothing more. And Coach, to hold out teams like Kennedy and JM and say they have no tradition is just plain ignorant. Both of those schools have more titles than Warroad, and whats more JM has more runner ups as well. If you want to pull Warroads beloved class A crowns to make your point, no one will buy it. Warroads all time record of 11-14 is behind both Kennedy and JM in W/L %, do some checking before calling out some teams.
