BIAFP, thank you for pointing out that the game of hockey is ruined because of Starsalum. So that explains it, I would have never known<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol"> .

Really, you think the game of hockey in Minnesota is ruined, even at the high school level? Because private schools have won two state championships at the AA level and only one before the two class system (Hill Murray). I would just like your take on why, instead of just sounding bitter.
AHA 2002 & 2005 State Champions!

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... iakChew at: 3/13/05 3:52 pm

God I feel good knowing I, never playing highschool hockey, have ruined the sport for all Minnesotans. I mean, Public schools are still dominating in terms of State titles and the game is by no means ruined. Three state titles is not a lot.

And what would you say to Moorhead and Warroad recieving transfers, do they recruit? I think not. Same with AHA, players go there for the same reason they go to Moorhead Warroad. It's not recruiting, those schools simply don't need to. The program, coaching, and school speak for themselves.
AHA 2002 & 2005 State Champions!

chew, you make some excelent pionts. for someone to say that private schools are dominating the state of hockey here in Minnesota is a little off base. o.k. they have one a couple of titles in the recent years, but a couple does not equal domminance. i remember after last years tourny, when cenntennial rolled through the fiels, and wayzata did what they did, everyone was saying the town teams, for a lack of a better term, was back on top. AHA was a outstanding team this year, but it by no means signals the downfall of high school hockey. public schools have the benifit of feeder programs, which privates don't. yes some top players will bolt for the likes of AHA, but most good players still stay with their towns.(i.e. ambrose in NP) to me, what the privates have over the publics is the coaches. Trebil, Chapman just to name a couple are excellent coaches and are a huge reason for their teams success.

skoal. i agree that trebil and chapman are A+ coaches and kids truly seek them out and their programs. You may also add Hendrickson (benilde) to the list. what is it about trebil that kids gravitate towards. for a guy that never really played the game he sure has "hockey" smarts. he could clearly be a grandfather to everyone of his players...but, i say that in a positive note. for trebil, age + wisdom = a self-assured aha team that took state.

What is it in Trebil that kids gravitate towards?

I think it is the way he knows the game. He teaches hockey the right way with speed, skating, skill, and smarts. Players seem to be better when they leave AHA then when they first started there. He is extremely fair in who he plays, it doesn't matter what grade you are in (and some people don't like that, but the best players should play and he plays them). He is a proven winner and his coaching staff, along with Mr. Trebil, are the most dedicated coaches in the state. I have never seen high school programs be so prepared for the opponent than with Mr. Trebil's teams.

You know, I think it's a shame that he hasn't won coach of the year, because all the hard work he puts into that program is amazing. And he is the BEST coach in the state!
AHA 2002 & 2005 State Champions!

sorry i forgot Hendrickson, a outstanding coach as well.

i remember watching Trebil coaching the Jefferson Bantam A's years ago. he should have one coach of the year that's for sure. i think he gets penalized for coaching a private school, and for being in the missota conf. so many preceive that since these kids are "hand picked" or "choosen" to play there, all he has to do is fill out a line-up and sit back and watch. i feel nothing is farther from the truth. having watched AHA alot a couple of years ago when O'Hara was on the team i have seen coach Trebil do alot behind the bench. you have to judge what he does when they play outside their conf. rather than what he does in it. i give him alot of credit, he by all right could of moved up to a college job, but has stayed true to his AHA team.

I am wondering why not start feeder programs for AHA and the other privates? Even if the kids dont go to that school yet but they want to play for them when they get older. Give them atleast chance to build there programs from with there own ranks. Yes they would still be bringing other towns kids but they would be bring them along in there own program, I think that might cut out some of the hate towards a AHA or Breck. Its just an idea
