WOW! This is very interesting. It is sad that they have to change it for marketing reasons. I would definitly want to watch the game on there.

Orange Lines?

What's the purpose of orange lines instead of blue? The "red line" is dark blue, and you can see it just fine! I like new stuff, but come on, the "blue lines" don't have to be orange! Cool idea though... I like it... wasn't the ice at Lake Placid blue-ish?

ya i like the look of the new ice, but it makes hockey seem cheap and sleezy. The color of the ice is cool, but the orange is nasty. They should stick with the original yet awesome red white and blue!
The curse lives on.....

Again guys, back to the marketing concept. Black puck and a dark blue line? They are trying to get "non" hockey smart people to start watching. Black puck and orange line? What colors will work better for the "non" hockey person to see whats being called? I don't really care for the colors either, but its all about the money and people tuning in and filling the seats.

Black puck on blue ice would seemingly be harder to pick up than black puck on white ice. So if the ice color were to change, maybe the puck needs to also. Orange puck? <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

This is strange indeed. Well I guess we could experiement with it, especially since really no one needs to use the ice....

Blue ice is the desire of figure skaters. In Lake Placid I would suppose that they had some figure skating events in the venue. They like it because it helps them with depth perception and they also can see their edge marks in the ice when they do their figures. It was the same way in New Ulm last weekend for the Bantam A State, they had "Blue Ice" there and no one could figure it out (I guess it takes a rink guy to know!).

I dont kno why they have to change it. Just seems like a waste of time. Iliked it fine like it was before. Color of ice and lines makes no difference to me.

hey if they want to change the color of the ice to blue and BLUE LINES to orange. Then we might as well try to create a league like the NBA and cater to every person's needs. granted i see where they are coming from trying to market new people. but in my opinion the more dumb rules they make like widening the blue lines and turning the ice blue makes me dislike where the NHL is heading towards. if you ask me it is not what the rules are or what color the ice is. it is about the players they chose to be in the NHL. You want a faster game with more scoring dont draft these thugs and maybe get a more talented player who maybe is a bit smaller. Stereo typical player in my mind is 5'8" to 6' and bout 185 to 225 lbs.

Yeah I don't mind seeing a few huge hits here and there, like that Braemar kid laid on that Iron Range kid in the All-star game at the DECC ha ha.

Can't be that much of difference.
Vanek said in the article that it didn't affect his game play.

Blue ice is a refreshing change. It is neat to see in rinks such as Virginia's. The color of the ice is for the spectator not the player and personally I think that is more fun to watch hockey on a color that is not as common even though some others may not.

Its kind of like the blue astroturf that Boise State plays their football games on, some love the change of color while other think its obnoxious, either way it gets more attention paid to it, which is exactly what the NHL is looking for.

even though the seasons cancelled, they should stop worrying about the color of the ice and the size of the bluelines and figure out a deal so we can watch some good intense playoff hockey next year.
