Wheres the common courtesy Moorhead

Post by hockeyfan24 » Tue Feb 01, 2005 10:53 am

I can't help but add in my 2 cents here. I really do feel bad that some people were turned away from this game and didn't get their seats but in moorhead's defense I can't remember a game where they've ever had to turn people away. I've been down to numerous games in the cities and regardless of the expected turnout I've alway been at the arena a long time before even the JV game starts. Maybe that's just because people know that hockey is a huge deal in this town and you need to get there early in order to get a seat.

I think it's very shallow to blame the ticket persons when they were probably looking out for your interests. Them telling you that if you buy a ticket, leave to get your 3 course fancy dinner because pizza, popcorn and hotdogs (and the awesome baked potatoes they were serving that night) aren't good enough for you, that in my own opinion was a very courteous thing to do. In a "Po' dunk" hick town like moorhead where we're not fortunate enough to have assigned seating you have to get there early...it's just a known fact. People on many different threads have warned against the overcrowded sports center numerous times, and if you had a fan bus you should have known that the place would be packed.

The game was huge and probably the best I've ever seen so kudos to centennial for a job well done. I hope that in the future all of this saving tickets for other teams fans won't be a problem, but until something like this happens and the problem is found theres no reason to fix it. Hopefully next year will be better!

Squirtcoach, I'm not a parent of a player, just a Moorhead fan who went to the game. Did I misread your first post? I didn't think it made a difference if you were a player's parent or just a fan.

I can understand making the request. I am a very impartial person to this topic i live in a small central MN town and i see why the Centennial people are mad. I don't understand how the Moorhead people can just say get there early. I mean look at it this way what would have the Moorhead parents and kids said had they drove all the way there last yr and there were no tickets left they would have been pissed but could have lived with it, however they were held tickets and its a common courteousy things that when the other team is coming all the way up there that you should do the same for them not say oh looks like you guys are the suckers for saving us some cause we wont for you. in my mind that is very very sad

Packerboy gets it. It's about the attitude of expectation. Just because something is done differently than you would expect, does not mean that it is wrong. There is more than one way to do things. When you visit, be pleased with what you get, when you host, do it as well as you can.

I am guessing the results of the team they came to watch may also have not met their expectations.

Remember, this is only a High School hockey game, not the Stanley Cup, the seats may not be reserved.

That's it exactly "Courtesy".

Webster's definition:
1. Politeness; civility; urbanity; courtliness.

2. An act of civility or respect; an act of kindness or favor performed with politeness.

It's common courtesy to offer in return what has been offered to you.

If your offered a hand to shake, most will offer theirs back.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... Centennial seating

Post by squirtcoach » Tue Feb 01, 2005 2:51 pm

CSG, What I was trying to say is that Centennial reserves seats for parents of all visiting teams and they sometimes sell out well before the game. When my son played there last year, some of us parents were unaware of this policy and when I went to pick up tickets on early Friday afternoon, they were already sold out. Fortunately, I found out from an assistant coach that tickets were on reserve for parents. I was able to pick them up for my wife and myself at game time. It is my humble opnion that if the games are expected to be sold out, it is in the interest of any team, Moorhead, Centennial or whomever, to reserve seats for parents.

To other comments:

I consider myself an impartial observer, too. I just know families who play for both teams. They would all be disappointed to drive 230 miles to watch their kids only to be turned away at the door.

Warroad fed our Peewee A team when we went all the way up there for a hockey game. That was a very nice gesture. The Marvins were great hosts. Maybe you are on to something.

Moorhead would replace on their schedule the defending state champion state with whom? The other historically first tier programs already schedule Moorhead e.g. WBL, Jefferson, Hill Murray, Duluth East... You hoping some of the second tier teams would want to come?

Moorhead v.s. Centennial

Post by RinkRat10506 » Tue Feb 01, 2005 3:19 pm

It find it hard not to give my opinion so here it goes.

I'm not a fan of either town. So I'll give an outside opinion. I think that it was unfair that some of the Centennial parents did not get tickets for the game. I believe for games like this they should see how many parents from the other team are coming and set those tickets aside. If I was a parent and I drove from Circle Pines to Moorhead and did not get in the game I would be more than pissed. I'm not saying that the people that turned them away are to blame, because I'm sure they are doing what they are told to do. Also I believe it is common courtesy to do what Centennial did for Moorhead last year.

There's probably a good reason you never got promoted from SQUIRT COACH! ......bad slam I'm just messing with you, but seriously you think there's only 4 or 5 other good teams in the state of MN? Unless you are adding some humor don't be so ridiculous!! There are more than a couple of teams that could substitute for Centennial.... Be careful not to fall off that pedastal you've placed yourself on!

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... eamer11 at: 2/1/05 3:25 pm

I drove to circle pines last year and was turned away, never once offered a "moorhead fan" ticket. I snuck in anyway, goes to show its a waste of time to save tickets.

Did anyone not get into the game????????????????
It seems to me that this whole thing is about food, my god, Fargo Moorhead is NOT the bearen deserts of Africa...I would say that you would have at least twenty choices to go that are easy to get to after the game, after the rush and be jsut as happy, if anyone needs to know where to go, I'll be happy to direct you Fargo Moorhead is not huge...........just goes to show you where our society is headed, into our mouths for our own convenience and ends up down the toilet........give it up, this is a waste of space.............

Courteous Moorhead

Post by squirtcoach » Tue Feb 01, 2005 4:03 pm

dreamer,

I don't know nothin' about hockey coachin'!

Again, I am not from Centennial, and my kid doesn't play for Centennial.

Several Spuds fans seem to have a strange attitude that "every metro school would want to drive 230 miles to play us without a guarantee they can watch their kid play" Wow, you guys must be really good!. Do you promise a good butt-kicking, too? Where do I sign up? <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Seriously, I just hope Centennial doesn't quit the Moorhead series over this. And if parents were turned away, that is a real possibility (I know parents!). I'm saying this for Moorhead's sake, not my sake, nor Centennial's sake.

I quite aware how desperate the Moorhead youth teams are to find good competition to come up to Moorhead. My relatives from Moorhead come down to visit several times a year so their youth team (squirt, peewee, or bantam) can play high level competition. Ask ANY parent of a youth 'A' team. It would be a shame for the Moorhead High School team if the same thing happened to them.

no one was turned away at moorhead. it's the fact that visitors that rented a bus to the tune of $1000 to go up to this game made an attempt to assure themselves tickets. the request was denied. they got there 3 hours early to be safe. after buying their ticket and thinking a beer or drink was a good idea.....again 3 hours before the game...it was implied that if they leave the building with a stamp or no stamp......there was no guarantee they would be permitted back into the building. unfortunately.....no one will ever know how many cars would have have been set on fire if last year moorhead came down for the game and no one got in. why is that mind you???? it's called courtesy....not obligation, but courtesy. does doing something nice for a visiting team come across as some weakness to some of you or what. why is this so hard to understand? it's not your teams fault or the parents fault or the schools fault or the towns fault. it is a flawed system and if you can't recognize that for what it is then you can't be helped on this board and most likely can't get help from anyone. i'm willing to bet that even knowing what the response was to this request that cent would still reserve tickets come next year if a game is scheduled. i can pretty much assure you of that.

You didn't even answer the question, Is there only 4 or 5 good teams in this state? And the coaches and AD's aren't going to make up a schedule dependant on appeasing the parents! You come across like you have this insider info on the workings of MHD hockey.....MN hockey for that matter. And programs have up and down years, this year, I think there would be more than enough metro schools willing to make the trek north. Yes, they should be expecting an ass whooping as they ponder the outcome traveling up I-94

They have not lost to Centennial. They officially tied them in the semis of the Schwan Cup. The Spuds won the tournament game in a shootout. And they beat Centennial on Saturday 5-3. So, that makes Moorhead officially 1-0-1 against Centennial on the year.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... iedSpud at: 2/1/05 8:19 pm

I think that it is unfortunate that the Centennial fans didn't get in but they should just go early and if you need to get food buy some at the rink. Just think if you went and bought a ticket and the ticket sellers didn't tell you that you might not get in. You would have left to eat and then come back only to find that you weren't going to get in at all. At least they told you.

About the thing with Centennial saving tickets last year and Moorhead not saving tickets for them this year. It was nice for Centennial to save tickets but in little hick town Moorhead there is nothing to do on a Saturday night. So everyone shows up at the game. Even if Moorhead would have saved tickets for Centennial fans, I don't really think that they would have gotten a seat if they didn't come early. So what is all the complaining about???

MORAL OF THE STORY: When you go to a hockey game in a hockey town like Moorhead where it is packed a lot of the time, JUST GO EARLY!!!!!!!!!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... yfan819 at: 2/1/05 8:44 pm
