What team has the best chance at winning state in AA?

Post by RinkRat10506 » Thu Aug 24, 2006 12:46 pm

Vote for which team you think has the best chance at winning state in AA this year. Add a team if I left out one you would like to vote for.

nothing against the team, but grand rapids wasn't the 2nd best team in state last year. they had a good run in the tournament and did really well. Take nothing away from them about that, they beat hill murray, but they weren't the 2nd best team, no way they're in the running to win.

Interesting list. Cretin would be my choice for #1 going into the season and the preseason favorite to repeat as AA Champs - lost a couple of good players but have the best players from last year returning with a very solid supporting cast. I would agree that BSM should be included on the list and I would also add Roseville. Hill-Murray has lost a lot and time will tell what new recruits they get and how strong their JV players were. I also think Duluth East losing Turnbull is a pretty big blow even though they will still have a lot of good young players - he was definitely their go to guy. And who does Jefferson have besides Levine? Elk River appears to be building a solid team with all of their latest additions.

It's gonna be a NWSC team, not even one listed on here. How can you not have a team from the top conference in the state? I would say Centennial, Blaine or ER will win it all.

There are no clear cut favorites but here is my top fourteen or so along with key players. I'm sure I left some key players off so sorry about that. Maybe other can add to the list.

I see Cretin, BSM, Edina and AHA in the mix at the end of the year. In my opinion, those with very good goalies, have the advantage unless a team has great depth.

1. Cretin (Hause is one of the best goalies around, Hickey, Mc Donaugh and other key players return)
2. Benilde St Marg (GT is ?,lots of depth with Estoclet, Shibrowski, Carew, Student and others)
3. Edina (Gleason, Brehm, Reber, Leer)
4. AHA (Matson, Mattson, Polacek, Brutlag, Roshab, Knelman)
5. Blaine (Shaber, Baudette, Lynch, Johnson and Carson)
6. Grand Rapids (White, Jensen, Stephal)
7. Moorehead (Christian, Foss, Dietz and Becker)
8. Hill Murray (Phillipi, Danna, Larson)
9. Cloquet (Johnson, Jokinen and Brown)
10. Elk River (Siebert-G, Martell, and Slavik, tough to score on)
11. Rochester Century (Grimsted, Knoepke)
12. Roseau ( Ness and Nelson)
13. Centennial (Hanna-G, Singer)
14. Duluth East (Leis-G and McLean; Turnbull gone to USHL)

Edina is maybe one or two years away from winning it all. They need there fabled bantam A team to develop one more year and then they will be dominant. A good test for them this year is that they play St. Thomas in the first game of the schwan. That could be quite violent with all the STA kids from Edina

Cretin has the easiest path although I don't think they are the best team in the state.

Trying to get my boys to bed also. Lynch and Baudette 2 of the top ten scorers in the elite league and I believe the had two others playing also.
Carson is solid at D.

I saw Cretin play several times last year and saw them get beat by WBL at Aldrich and squeak by Hastings.. They are a very good team that plays in an easy section and got on a roll at the right time last year.

I really don't think there are clear cut favorites this year like AHA and Hill Murray last year.

Watch out for Roseville. I love the Mueller kid.
