It seems that the private schools have weaker JV programs because the people that come go for the hockey (not the education) and therefore wouldnt come to play jv. In other words the good players come when they are "recruited." Thoughts??

you want my thoughts? Well, here goes...

I think this has been talked about on multiple occasions. Maybe not directly as in JV, but the private bashing time has been a boring conversation since day 1.

look at Hill, STA, and Holy Angels' JV teams

they are good and would beat most public school JV

The STA JV team seems to be mowing down all the teams it comes up against. Even today the STA JV team played pretty poorly in my opinion, yet they still came out with a win. I think that there are probably just as many good private school JV teams as there are public school JV teams at least by a percentage of the total of each category.

Not sure of the Simley game, but up until then, STA had 1 GA.

In all respect to both private and public, there is absolutly no way to compare the two. Although it may appear that students come for a taste of Varsity, several students do come to develop through JV programs and hope to play varsity the next year. In this case the transfering student must be an underclassmen (fresh-soph). It is a fair argument to say most upperclassmen do come for Varsity level.

the reason the public schools have the edge over private schools in JV hockey is because they have a feeder program which means they have been playing together for their whole life. private schools do not have these

Many of the top Academic schools, such as AHA, STA, BSM, HILL, also have very good JV programs.

Thats a pretty bold stament, they definatly are the best right now but they could take notes agains some lake confrence teams.


Ya but Bloomington Kennedy is in the Lake Confernce and i think there are some peewee team that would beat them hands down

considering the hill jv team went 25-1 last year i would say that they were pretty good.

and they are doing great this year

I would say that they private schools with decent jv teams are either fairly big private schools with enough players to field a decent jv team or they are strictly hockey schools and even they have enough older varsity players that they can have most of their freshman and sophmores play jv to get more experience before moving up to varsity. On the other hand if their is a private school that's not as big or also has other important qualifications they don't have as good of a jv team.

Why is it a bold statement to say that Hill, STA, or AHA JV teams are better than most public JV teams. Most only means that they are in the top half of all JV teams...that's not a bold statement, it's an undisputable fact Some of these schools have as many as 60-90 kids trying out, which means 1/3 to 1/2 or even more of all prospects don't even make JV! I think Hill, STA or AHA JV would beat many smaller schools varsity teams.

It would be asham if both of these two kids dont get moved up to varsity this year

People talk about private schools JV as if they are all transfers. Here is a listing for AHA:
first of the 17 players listed on AHA's roster 8 are 9th grade, 4 10th graders 3 of which were there last year, 5 11th graders and they were all there last year. Not sure where the groing up factor is, but these kids will be on the team through their senior year. Their biggest hockey growth years. At least 6 of these kids are siblings of previous players for AHA.

After seeing the autistic Blake squad play i would have to say that any private school automatically has a sucky JV team.
