other than Moorhead, Edina is the best public school team in the state. I got Edina winning 4-2 behind Buddish and the sophomores.

This Edina team looks good.
They are first to every loose puck, and play the body well too.
Reminds me of their teams from many years ago.

No doubt Cretin is banged up, but you still have to give the Hornets a lot of credit.

Edina

Post by MNRinkRat » Thu Dec 28, 2006 7:26 pm

Well, Cretin is without McDonough and Hickey that could be why they are not playing that well. Or it could be because Edina is that good. Actually the Hornets are a really impressive looking team.

I know its early, but this Edina team looks good enough to win state this year. Who can beat them right now?

goals for edina came from brill (2), buddish, leer, baker

by the way there are some teams that can beat edina!
roseville, moorhead, cloquet, holy angels are teams that can beat them but edina is a very good team that has a good chance to go to the state tourney in march.

First time I have seen the Reber kid. Tall skinny kid with speed and great hands. Saw him between games with some scout bending his ear. The Don was in attendence as well. Gleason was impressive also. Reber will be a force when he fills out.

Edina

Post by saintpaulhockey » Fri Dec 29, 2006 12:00 am

Edina ooked very good, however they were playing a severely shorthanded (top two players) and exhausted ( 4 games in 7 days) CDH team. CDH played tired and sloppy - would have been a great game if CDH had Mcdonagh and Hickey! At this point Edina has to be in the top 5 above Moorhead and Roseville because they have more quality wins. Watch out for these guys next year.

Anyone and Everyone, as it is for all teams on any given night. Its high school hockey upsets and breakthroughs happen all the time
With that said...Edina did look above average from what i saw of them. They play very physical, and pounce on loose pucks. CDH was probably hurting without Hickey and McDonagh but don't underestimate this edina team.

It was actually 4 games in 6 days. But that's not an excuse for anything at all. Edina was 5 games in 8 days, would've been 6 had it not been for the weather (why the weather matters for a game where the teams are probably already in the city they're playing, I have no idea). So, really bad example.

Even so, woulda, coulda shoulda's don't matter, and that's why they don't matter for rankings. Or anything else. Edina is a very solid team who beat Cretin twice this year, once by 2 and this time by 4. Cretin's good too, but fluke I think not.

you can't try to say McDonagh and Hickey really would've made a 4 goal difference. Obviously they would've made it a good game and I guess you never know, they could've been a 4 goal difference but Edina deserves some credit.

Like everyone else said Angels, Cloquet, Moorhead, and possibly Roseville. However Edina looked really good out there, fast and physical. They also have a lot of individual talent.

There weakness/downside however is I saw a lot of individual efforts out there. A lot of kids (especially Reber) trying to go coast to coast (even when they had two on ones) get them to click as a team and pass the puck well, on the break as well as when holding the zone. Get this done and they could join the elite teams in the state and be considered at the same level as some of the teams mentioned earlier.

I know Hickey is hurt but why wasn't McDonaugh in. I thought he was healthy. (I was lookin forward to seeing at least one of the future badgers!)

He got hurt in the Schawns semifinal the day before.

No need to beat a dead horse; there are a good dozen teams that can beat Edina. However, the flip side is that Edina is good enough to beat those teams as well.

AHA was supposed to win it last year and they didn't even make it to Mariucci; that's why they play the games. But one thing I was impressed with Edina was that they have two great lines; only team I've seen that can possibly match AHA's top two lines in terms of firepower. Got great speed, but great size as well.

Imagine this Hornet team with Knelman (AHA), Lee (STA) & Student (BSM) on the club.

HS, nobody said fluke you moron. Edina is very good. CDH's top two players are out, but Edina can play with anyone. Cretin showed that without their top two stars they are ordinary. Although you could probably say that about any team.
