Im just curious to see what people think on this one? Some have even talked about bringing back a state tourny for them. It is the only level that I know of that does not have a post season!

I would say no, since JV rosters are ever-changing....a number of JV teams could be the best in the state at one time depending on who drops down from their varsity to play.

i agree, teams would stack their JV for the tourney

Well there'd obviously be rules about that if it happened. I think it's weird that bantams have a state, then you can end your season with a win the next year...

I agree.... Rules could be easily implemented.... Something of the fact that you cant make a roster change etc after a certain date... or players can only have so much varsity time...

Yeah, varsity play time is good for any JV player in any sport, but dropping lots of players down isn't good though.

What would have to happen for a tourney would be set playoff rosters. Tournaments go on at the same time (Varsity & JV) and players can't move up and down.

Alright hear is my piece on this. I think this is one of the dumbest ideas i have ever heard. No one really cares about the jv programs other than the coaches and parents of the jv players. The only thing a good jv team shows is that you have potential in upcoming years. A jv state tournament would be a terrible idea. Then a coach with players on both jv and varsity could just send them down to jv so there team is better. This program is for developing kids to get to the varsity level, not to see who has the best players that arent able to play varsity level in the state.

This rule is enforced even without jv state tourney. A player can only play 4 periods within 24 hours. I think this would still work if there was a jv state tourney becuase if there was a good player on varsity the coach would want him up there all 3 periods. Making him only be able to play 1 period in the jv game. Which i think is fine just to give the team a little boost or just for some extra men.

Well Im pretty convinced we have the best JV team (WBL), but I dont see some of the northern teams ever play(warroad, roseau etc..).

No--JV teams should not be ranked or have a state tournament. What they should be allowed to do is have a playoff within their own conference at seasons end. As of right now, you get 25 games and thats it, and the MSHSL does not recognize a JV playoff, so teams would be in violation if they had those games. That way, those kids still have something to play for. Anybody on the Varsity roster for playoffs, should not be eligible

How about Seniors? We've had topics on here discussing Pros/Cons of playing seniors on JV. Some conferences have bylaws saying you can't.

It is in the MSHL rules.... checked with the office.. its official... 4 periods in 24 hours.... thats the rule!

I think the debate here has been great... I think what the godfather said was perfect.... somehow Im wondering if they could do that!

Why not? Just because they aren't good enough or not serious enough about hockey to make varsity doesn't mean that they shouldn't be able to play. I know a couple seniors who play jv and have a great time, so why take it away they aren't different then any of the other players on jv.

Roseau?

Roseau No 1 :?: , just because they beat Moorhead :?: :?: The only reason Moorehead finished as high as 4th in the Schwans Cup is because they played Duluuth East in the first round.

Seniors

If a senior is not good enough to play on the varsity, why shouldn't they be eligible for JV :?: :?: In many cases a senior has played competitve hockey for 10-13 years, and all the sudden just because they aren't good enough for varsity they need to sit? Is there an alternative league for a senior who is denied V and JV? If not then they should definately be eligible, especially those at private schools who might be beaten out by transfers.
