How was the comparison done?

   Both rankings as of December 6th, 2001 were compared to all scores on this site as of
December 19, 2001 and those games for which the two rankings predicted a different winner 
were counted and studied.  

What were the results of the comparison?

   Surprisingly, the two rankings only disagreed on 45 games involving a top 25 team in the 
MidgetAAA.com rankings.  Of those 45, the computer rankings ranked the winning team 
higher 28 times and the MidgetAAA.com rankings ranked the winning team higher 17 times 
for a net difference of only 11 games in favor of the computer rankings.

   The comparisons were also run on a ranking that is generated as an average of the two 
rankings (with ties broken by the computer rankings).  The average rankings scored 
between the other two rankings, only one game worse than the computer rankings.

  It may be informative to look at teams that appear multiple times as an unpredicted winner 
or loser in the two rankings.

For Example:

  Chicago Chill appear five times as unpredicted winners for the MidgetAAA.com rankings, 
they should likely be ranked higher there.  

  Dallas appears three times as unpredicted losers for the MidgetAAA.com rankings, 
they should likely be ranked lower there.  

  San Diego appears four times as unpredicted losers for the MidgetAAA.com rankings and once
as an unpredicted winner for the computer rankings.

  Marquette appears five times as unpredicted losers for the MidgetAAA.com rankings and twice
as an unpredicted winner for the computer rankings.
 
  The Ice Dogs appear four times as unpredicted losers for the MidgetAAA.com rankings and twice
as an unpredicted winner for the computer rankings.

  Compuware appears twice as unpredicted winners for each ranking and once unpredicted losers
for the MidgetAAA.com rankings. 

  The Soo Indians appear four times as unpredicted winners for the computer rankings
(and once as unpredicted loser) and three times as an unpredicted loser for the MidgetAAA.com
rankings (once as unpredicted winner), perhaps their true rank should be somewhere in
between the two rankings. 

  Chicago Mission appear three times as unpredicted winners for the computer rankings 
and three times as unpredicted losers for the MidgetAAA rankings.  Similarly, the 
Pittsburgh Hornets appear four times as unpredicted losers for the computer rankings 
and three times as unpredicted winners for the MidgetAAA.com rankings.

  Both rankings did fairly well overall, correctly accounting for between 78 - 80 percent of the 
season to date scores.
