1974 You really want to go back to the way things were in 1974? Two high school leagues; energy crisis; long gas lines; inflation; people wanting change so badly that they were willing to try any stupid idea... "Hey, I'm tired of getting my refreshments from the fridge. Let's try what's in thos...

It is amazing how some people can come up with what they think are "new" ideas, when the same ideas have failed in the not so distant past. We had two leagues before 1975, but only "mythical" champions. In fact, the Pioneer Press used to call the #1 rated team, "Mythical Sta...

Who did win the title in 2008? I remember Roseau getting robbed in the semis.... Next time your wife wants to watch TMZ or American Idol, you could just watch a recording of Roseau getting rolled by the 2008 world champs (that's what AP would do). Sparlimb... that "Who will win the Roseau vers...

How can the pastures get any greener than Hill-Murray? However, for every Pioneer who does choose to leave, there are seven or more who want his spot. "D" will be fine... I remember the bored laughing when Ankles Pierre, Jr. picked Dan Sova for his all-AP squad a year or two before all he ...

I would say that the top line had two of the only three goals scored in the State Championship (hint: next year's best line are good friends of this year's top line)!

Neut, PPG used to show the kind of "class" you respect from Sparlimb and Hillfan, that is until Ankles Pierre, Jr. called him out for trying to be too modest. Sparlimb and the rest are showing promise now, too. As far as Roseau taking a hit, you are all wrong... Roseau showed they CANNOT t...

How would Ness help? Not anytime soon.

Big loss for the Gophers. I guess I, too, will be watching more Notre Dame!

I love Shattup! Shattup are the National Champs!

Of course, I love H-M more! The Pioneers are the World Champs after all.

I can settle this argument for everyone:

Shattup=best in nation

BSM=better than best in nation

Edina=bested the better than best in nation

Hill-Murray=World High School Hockey Champions, again!

Extra credit: Roseau likes to brag about making the State Tournament 32 times. Though spread over 64 years and never having had to play in any tough Catholic Conferences... Still we give the Rams their due. Of course, Hill-Murray has a combined 35 appearances (22 post MSHSL merger and 13 Independen...

Not bad, Ogee. #1 A win streak spanning several seasons is in store for the boys in Green and Black. #2 Hill-Murray winning 13 more State Tournament games in a row means at least four more State Championships. If done in consecutive years after the 2008 trophy, the Pioneers will eclipse Eveleth's re...

Lesson #3 There were so many ways one could have predicted Hill's 2008 Championship, though none might have been easier than using the following simple formula... Using results from all eras (Independent, One-Class, Two-Tourney) together, Take the previous number of State Championship trophies... Ad...

Lesson #2 Like all God's great works of art, there is beautiful symmetry in Pioneer Hockey. Take, for instance, the three major eras in Pioneer history... In the independent league days, the Pioneers were 23-14 in State Tournament games. In the one-class merged league days, the Pioneers were 23-14 a...

Lesson #1 Hill-Murray Pioneers are the 2008 State Champions in spite of three losses and a tie. Only one other team in Minnesota Hockey history has done the same with three regular season losses and a tie... After doing it the first time, they didn't lose again for quite awhile... I gave you the his...

Minnesota... the biggest and best hockey tourney in the country.

Shattup... lost to the third place team and beat some pretenders from IlliNOISE!

Just trying to be nice, calling them second best... should have said fourth.
