Ugh. Sager will never go away now. Lucia got a contract extension after missing the Final Five for the third straight year and the NCAA tourney for the second straight year. I'm thinking Sager, after (1.) winning the SEC, (2.) knocking out Stillwater and #1 Hill-Murray en route to a section title, ...

Tim Sager, Coach of the Year

"SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Minnesota Minute Men announced today that... Tim Sager (White Bear Lake High School) received The John Mariucci Award, given to the Class A and Class AA high school coaches of the year." Not bad for a coach who, just two short years ago, was the subject...

Anyone know what Majkozak said or did to earn himself a 2 and 10 for "abuse of the referee" at 6:59 of the 3rd period?

I'm kind of confused. I was not at the game, so I don't know when Jordan came in. According to the MSHSL official play by play of the game, he came in during the first overtime while WBL was on the power play, played the rest of the OT and gave up no goals. Posts here seem to indicate that he came ...

And ironically, the Duluth player who did the pounding on Rau whiffed on a chance to clear the puck just before Rau pushed it in.

Just when I think I have seen everything there is to see in a hockey game, something new comes up. First off, the Bears get a two and 10 for checking from behind. I have seen this many times, but in the same shift, they get a two and 10 for ABUSING the ref. Yep, you heard it right, the call over th...

Gump... did that team seriously make state? They did! Knocking off, leaving Duluth Central, Duluth East, Andover, and Cambridge-Isanti in their wake. Anoka was the #9 seed. According to MSHSL they have seven 9th graders on their roster (from a high school of 2,500). There must be a story there...

Gotta love sub-.500 teams that make it to state and even end up in the consolation final. That being said.... Bears 4, Panthers 1.

Next weekend, my sentimental favorite will be the 6-24 Anoka Tornadoes girls basketball team. A team that was 2-24 as of the end of February!

Finbar Murphy, C-DH (1988).

Not for his performance (C-DH went two and out, I believe).

But because of a fantastic name.

My main point was that this was a big upset between rivals and deserved some ink in the paper . I agree. I suspect the game ended too late on Friday night to get anything in Saturday's print edition (other than the score in agate type). I realize by Sunday that Friday's sports news is old news, but...

Academics. Which Tim has a 3.8 GPA, and that is excellent especially at HM. I believe ACT scores are irrelevant to the selection process. 8) Actually, I don't think that's true. I couldn't find any selection criteria anywhere in the PiPress, but in most stories about the winner there's no mention o...

Do the selection criteria include ACT score or academics? If not, isn't the ACT score irrelevant to the selection?

WOW Pioneer press, that is ridiculous, if you're gonna go with a pioneer (which we knew you all would) Go with Ben Bahe, he is a much better choice than Shaughnessy.

Re: Pioneer Press Player of the Year and All-State Team

It's rather remarkable that a player who didn't make the list of Mr. Hockey finalists and didn't even make any of Star Tribune's all-metro teams was chosen by the Pioneer Press as the best player in the entire state. Then again, it makes sense considering the Pioneer Press's excessive and fawning co...
