Hockey is a physical sport. That is one of the reasons so many people like it. My kid has been injured four times in the peewee years to the point that it has taken him out of the game until healed. I do not see any easy answers to the checking conundrum.

checking

I always have been in favor of checking as part of the game of hockey. My viewpoint has now changed since my son has now had three concussions and one broken wrist in the last year of playing hockey. None of these injuries would have happened if checking were disallowed.

open enrollment

The true effects of open enrollment will not be felt at the High School level for several more years as the current youth hockey open enrollment policy has only been in place less than two years and has not yet run its course. This years Hermantown team is home grown and has not allowed outsiders to...

I think the more suitable question is should we eliminate girls hockey and only have youth hockey? I believe the people who have top end talent girls would be in favor of this.

Our local association is looking at how to make girls hockey viable. The result of the study was the only way was all girls to play girls. If the best girls play with boys there is not enough girls to field a team. The people who get left out is the bottom 70 percent of girls who now have not much o...

On a different perspective but same values. Girl Scouts sell cookies. Boy Scouts sell Popcorn. Some girls build campfires and tie knots better than boys. Some boys bake and sew better than girls.

Girls are Girls

I would be in favor of boys playing against boys, and girls playing against girls in nearly every situation and every sport. Just because a girl is better than a boy in any given sport does not mean she should compete against them. I have had conversations with many girl hockey parents and they all ...

Locker Room Policy

I am not sure I understand this correctly? USA Hockey is now mandating that a Coach, Manager, or other person with a background check be present in a locker room at any and all times? Who is policing this policy? and what is the penalty for non compliance?

Also consider those kids who start early. I have a nephew with an August Birthday who started school a year early. He is entering 9th grade as a First year Bantam and has eligiblity to play Bantams as a Tenth Grader due to Age. What do you do with these kids?

The association my kid plays in has the unwritten rule that Parent coaches are not encouraged at the PeeWee and Bantam Levels. So anytime a non parent applies at these levels they are automatically given the job. In recent years this has been a mistake.

Girls

I realize females can and do perform at a high level of all sports dominated by males. The issue seems to be at the youth level of hockey whether it is fair to the boys for girls to be playing along side of them? And the answer is NO. The reason is most boys who play youth hockey have zero interest ...

But these girls did not sign up for youth first. Two of them made the High School Team. Three or Four of them went and played on a Coop 14UA at a...
