checking
I always have been in favor of checking as part of the game of hockey. My viewpoint has now changed since my son has now had three concussions and one broken wrist in the last year of playing hockey. None of these injuries would have happened if checking were disallowed.

open enrollment
The true effects of open enrollment will not be felt at the High School level for several more years as the current youth hockey open enrollment policy has only been in place less than two years and has not yet run its course. This years Hermantown team is home grown and has not allowed outsiders to...

Our local association is looking at how to make girls hockey viable. The result of the study was the only way was all girls to play girls. If the best girls play with boys there is not enough girls to field a team. The people who get left out is the bottom 70 percent of girls who now have not much o...

Girls are Girls
I would be in favor of boys playing against boys, and girls playing against girls in nearly every situation and every sport. Just because a girl is better than a boy in any given sport does not mean she should compete against them. I have had conversations with many girl hockey parents and they all ...

Locker Room Policy
I am not sure I understand this correctly? USA Hockey is now mandating that a Coach, Manager, or other person with a background check be present in a locker room at any and all times? Who is policing this policy? and what is the penalty for non compliance?

startin g early
Also consider those kids who start early. I have a nephew with an August Birthday who started school a year early. He is entering 9th grade as a First year Bantam and has eligiblity to play Bantams as a Tenth Grader due to Age. What do you do with these kids?

Thank you for my most Preposterous statement of the year nominee...I earned it. I would like to relate a real life situation that I just witnessed two weeks ago regarding Girls playing with Boys. Little league Baseball is a little different than Hockey, as Baseball is not a sport played by girls...s...

Girls
I realize females can and do perform at a high level of all sports dominated by males. The issue seems to be at the youth level of hockey whether it is fair to the boys for girls to be playing along side of them? And the answer is NO. The reason is most boys who play youth hockey have zero interest ...

Girls are Girls
I am attempting a different spin on this one. Top four Professional sports in the U.S are Football, Baseball, Basketball, and Hockey. To the best of my knowledge their is zero females playing Professional at the highest level.errr. I mean Men. Another analogy... Track and Field athletes....Their is ...

The activity does not matter as the Insanity is the same. I have seen more outrageous behavior at Little League Baseball, Flag Football, Soccer games than I have at Hockey games. And yes I have seen some crazy stuff at Youth Hockey games. While Hockey can be quite expensive, other activities are muc...

Last year at our association we had about ten 14U eligible players tryout for High School. The High School tryouts were AFTER the youth teams were formed. But these girls did not sign up for youth first. Two of them made the High School Team. Three or Four of them went and played on a Coop 14UA at a...

The wings as a whole organization has seemed to take a down turn. Their website is not update, and many pages are restricted for no apparent reason. Results from their tournament are non existent. year round
Year round is not just hockey. If you want to be good you have to do it all the time. My examples that are very near and dear to me: My niece is a top level gymnast for her age where it is mandatory to train year around and the cost is double that of hockey. My daughters best friend is a Soccer Stud...

Back to my original post that started this thread...Who picked up on my sarcasm and poor attempt at humor?.... So it looks like we have about forty teams at each birth year level for Spring hockey. Winter hockey has a two year window for each level. So my next question is what percentage of kids pla...

OK you guys got me I am a total idiot. My 98 and 02 are not going D-1. I know that. I guess what I really want to know is how many teams at the 98 and below level are playing AAA.
