Congrats to Centennial

Post by east hockey »

A lot of focus on this team before the State tournament had to do with their offense. With over 200 goals scored in the regular season (yes, some weak opponents in there, we've all heard this argument, blah blah blah, get over it <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol"> ), did anybody think their defense was suspect? I had no idea, I just knew that everything I was hearing and reading had to do with how they could fill the net with pucks.

What surprised me was a State Tournament record set by the Cougars, cemented by their 1-0 win over the Spuds tonight: Fewest goals allowed in a tournament by a team---0.

Unbelievable.

Did anybody expect them to play three defensively stingy games? Did anybody think that they'd win the state title while scoring just six goals in the process. By the way, is this also a state record? I'm too tired to do that much research right now.

Folks, this team proved itself to be the absolutely undisputed best team in the state.

Way to go, Cougars. Enjoy what you've accomplished this season.

Lee

Lee,

I'm not surprised they shut teams down but 3 shutouts against #2 Moorhead, #3 AHA, and #4 Wayzata all of which have explosive teams is simply amazing!

This team also played without Ryan Flynn the sophomore phenom who had 68 points and was just invited to Michigan for tryouts.

Gorowsky also played the section and state tourney far from 100% yet he still produced.

30-1 with 17 wins vs. state entrants, section finalists and semi finalists. Including 8-0 vs. state entrants and 6-0 vs. teams ranked 2-4.

WOW!!

As a Moorhead fan I would like to congratulate Centennial on a great season and a well deserved championship. Stutz is one of the greatest goalie I have seen in a while and wish him the best. To the rest of the team congratulation. I only hope Moorhead's turn will be soon.

I just have to say excellent job by Centennial
Everyone thought that there offense is spectacular and their defense is average. Remember they have RJ Anderson and Greg Flynn. 2 spectacular D, they play so well, no one gets by them coming into the zone. they also have solid sophmore D. RJ has 90+ points now after the state tourney, which is unbelivable for a junior and defenseman. Congrats to flynn for getting the Herb Brooks Award. Stutz played excellent....again.... good goal by Montgomery.

Congrats to Centennial

Do it again next year.

Excellence

This one might take a bit to set in. Has to ranked with the best teams in history based on the incredible consistency and balance. The numbers against ranked opponents are staggering. Congratulations, fellas.

I was at the game last night. Ive been to quite a few championshio games. I dont know if Ive ever been to one that had 2 finer teams playing.

I watch a lot of hockey like all you guys. Have you ever seen a team move the puck better than Moorhead...... and get absolutley nothin for it? They passed beautifully at times connecting on 3-4 in a row and always there was a Centenniel defender to get in the way so they couldnt finish.

Nobody was left open. No giveaways. Nothing was easy. It was somethng to see. Now, it wasnt the most exciting game but it was really well played.

Great Tournament

Post by mnhockeylvr »

What a great tourney. Lots of fun games to watch, tons of people, the stadium rocked Thursday afternoon, friday night, and especially on saturday night. I dont think I had been to a tournament where the fans were so loud and awesome.

Congrats to Cent, they played amazing for 3 days. They had a heck of a challenge from AHA, and they stood up to it well. And against Moorhead, that is one of the most even state championships ive seen. What an exciting game(even if the result was a 5th disappointing one).

Hopefully, Moorhead will rebound and be back next year.
