Which Central Lakes Team Do you think is the best?

I'm sick of hearing about Little Falls. Look at the teams they've played. Only two tough teams: Virginia and Brainerd. And they lost to both. And Brainerd is questionable. Their record reflects the teams they've played. No one good except for those two teams. And they have no one good left on their schedule. If they get seeded top 4 in State the whole new system they put in for State is ridiculous. Yeah, their stars or whoever played in it performed well in the Elite League, but come on. They would be lucky to finish top 4 in Section 7A. They are a joke come State time. Let them prove people wrong. I don't think they will.

Virginia is questionable too!.. You are RIGHT AS RAIN, thanks for your insights on the CLC hockey race. I got a real Koo-Koo-Koochoo Kick outta your dislike for good hockey players, and teams. So, Mo asks , what team would you not be sick of hearing about?sparky13 wrote:I'm sick of hearing about Little Falls. Look at the teams they've played. Only two tough teams: Virginia and Brainerd. ECHO!!!!
Hey Step out of that PIPE next time you post....I gotta echo ..echo...echo..

THIS FIRST POST CAME FROM A "NEWBIE" IN THE BEST CHANT THREAD, JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF ILLOGICAL FLYER FANS
SECOND, that is the dumbest thing i have ever heard!!!
THIRD, Brainerd fans (in a smaller number due to other sprots) were noticably louder then the Flyer fans ask any player who was on the ice, i am sure you sounded loud from the middle of your own student section!
FOURTH AND MOST OF ALL, you go to state in A two years in a row? we beat you 44 or last 48 game? we are better then you, thus we WOULD go to state if we were A! oh yea and "wannabee" dangle show, you and your Flyers couldn't even begin to LOGICALLY think of finsihing top 7 in 7AA!!
FIFTH don't come on this board and think you are the second coming, and that you know everything about hockey on your 4th career post, Little Falls wins their section two years in a row....what happened in the first round in consecutive years? just didn't show up to play? or proved AGAIN that LF is in the worst section in Minnesota!!!
.........but wait, i'm sure you innance Flyer fans will come back with "we go to state" wait SINGLE A.....SINGLE A.....SINGLE A.....SINGLE A.....(the cheer WILL NEVER DIE OFF)..........................................SINGLE A.............
FIRST OF ALL, you steal my name, who are you????!!!!the dangler wrote:I would say little falls. I mean if anyone was at the LF Brainerd game they are the loudest chanters ive heard. There were parents on the otherside of the rink plugging there ears. And brainerd needs to get there own chants. For the brainerd fans that were chanting single A, at least we can make it to state!

Well, it appeared as if the Gods from Brainerd had a tough time beating that rancid class A team. 44 of the last 48, who cares? Little Falls has never been good til now. They still aren't that good, they have one great line and a pretty good second line. They have no D and but a pretty good goalie.
Brainerd would have a chance to make state in 3 or 4 sections of class A...but they would STRUGGLE to make the finals in the others.

I am not trying to say how good Brainerd is, at times they have shown they can compete with anyone, and at times they have shown they can lose to anyone, i will be the first to admit it....but there is an "unwritten rule" in high school sports cheering battles, that you don't bring up state tourny to a team bigger then you, especially after they beat you! IT JUST IS NOT AN INSULT...but inane, uneducated flyer fans always seem to bring it up after we stump on them every yearGeorge Blanda wrote:Well, it appeared as if the Gods from Brainerd had a tough time beating that rancid class A team. 44 of the last 48, who cares? Who was the best team in the 1980 olympics
The best team at the 1980 olympics was the Russians. They just were not the best team on that given night. It would not have been a Miracle on Ice if we were the better team. They hadn't been beaten in many years before so they definitly were the best team.
I would still place LF in front of Brainerd....just look at the clc losses.

True, top_shelf. The only cheer a class A team should really do is "Class A hockey" or something of the sort when they are beating a AA team that raves about their AA prowess. Classic examples, St. Cloud Tech vs. St. Cloud Cathedral or St. Cloud Tech vs. Sauk Rapids or St. Cloud Tech vs. Little Falls.

I think that school pride is great. But I also think, as witnessed on this thread and many others, that a number of inequities exist in our sport as well. Such as what constitutes a legitimate A team versus AA team. I think that it is laudable when small schools such as Little Falls and others that I am sure you old timers can point out, have built a competitive team from a limited sized youth program. However, I am confused with how a small private school, with recruitment capabilities remains in the A class. I am not sure if boundary constraints mandate or affect their enrollment numbers. Point being - is it fair for a school like SCC to compete with LF? Perhaps the private schools should either be mandated to compete at the AA level or in their own tournaments. I am told that it wasn't that long ago when private schools had their own tournaments in MN. Why did it change? If open enrollment go the route of the dinosaur - this becomes even a more legitimate question. Getting on topic to this thread - why do we have conferences when A schools have to compete with AA teams and vise versa? In these situations the AA schools have absolutely nothing to win and everything to lose!

SCC is the worst private school example you can probably come up with...considering the private school system in St. Cloud is far different that the private school systems of the cities, duluth, etc...
Your comments have done nothing but lay the framework for a debate on Private vs. Public, a topic that has been beaten to death since the beginning of this board.

Over the years the biggest example of bringing in players from outside their boundries is St. Cloud Tech. CHS has had 99% of their players in the Catholic school system from day-one. Tech has brought in players (Sauer and Heinz come to mind, and a goalie a couple of years ago) that moved for the hockey only.
Stupid debate that just keeps on growing..

Best in central lakes conf
I guess it might sound good to LF to think their the best in CLC. Somebody`s got to be the best at something. But when looking at the larger picture of how they did at state the last 2 years representing section 4a, Wadena the year before that, and Fergus Falls the 7 years in a row prior to that, with none of them finishing more than 3rd place, thinking your the best in CLC is really not much to brag about. Correct me if I`m wrong, but I believe Fergus Falls is the only team from 4a to finish 3rd at state in the last 10 years and I believe thats only been done once. So let LF think their the best in CLC as thats only going to feel good untill they get to state and thats if they make it.

They will make it and they will win a game or two at the X. No team coming out of 4A has had the offensive firepower that this LF team has. Wadena had some offense a few years back, but nothing compared to what Small Falls has thrown together. No other team from 4A that has gone to state has had a D1 commitment and a top end D1 prospect.
Wadena's best player was Tyler Neu. Where is he now? Oh yeah, he's with former Fergus star Dan Perry being perennial MIAC bottom feeders.

I totally agree on the fire power, but thats only if the other team lets them skate unchecked. Their D is ok but not stellar and the goalie is average at best.

I disagree w/ the firepower comment. FF had Josh Anderson and Ryan Miller playing on the same line and I would take those 2 over Festler and Hanowski anyday. Not taking anything away from those guys but Anderson and Miller were just plain better.
Dan Perry is/was an overrated player. Yes he was big, had great hands, and a very good shot, but he never used his size to his advantage very well and didn't ever put together the total package. Saying this, he STILL was offered a D1 scholarship St. Cloud Tech.
In response to another post, FF had probably the best team in Class A in 2001 (I think that was the year) when they lost a BS game to Totino in the Semi's 2-1.

I knew St.Cloud Tech recruited players from Sartell, Apollo and Sauk Rapids but I didn't know they gave scholarshipsmaddangles wrote:Saying this, he STILL was offered a D1 scholarship St. Cloud Tech.

Just 'cause Tech is AA doesn't mean they are D1

By the way the CLC is a BS Class A conference and Brainerd should bail out as soon as possible

You're right, Syd. The CLC for hockey is an ugly hockey conference. But if Brainerd bailed, they'd have to leave for football, baskeball, baseball, and other sports that are really competitive in the CLC.
Brainerd, Tech, and River Lakes will probably be the only AA teams in the conference next year as Apollo's enrollment has declined below the cutoff level.
