Faribault has only one goalie, Hanna Sietz, she is a freshman. She got yanked up to play varsity as an 8th grader last year when the junior goalie was ineligable and helped the team to the Section Finals.
She played an exceptional game last night. She also played well against West making 18 saves in the 1st period and she carried the team when Faribault beat Mound-Westonnka.
If she stays hot Fbo will be tough to beat. Go Falcon 89, we miss u!!!

It looks as if Faribault now has a hot goalie, if they can just get the top scorers to pass the puck more, play as a team they can win the big games. Looks as if the top scorer is only scoring vs the weak teams and not when it counts...pass the puck and play as a team, and good things happen. A few still think they can take the puck themselves when thier teammates are wide open...skating with your head up and passing the puck is what this team needs to do.Falcon 89 Fan wrote:Faribault has only one goalie, Hanna Sietz, she is a freshman. They have talent, and the more they work together, the benefits will come.
Still think Red Wing as section Favorite. So sad about thier goalie. Goes to show, hockey is just minor compared to real life.

Falcons
Faribault (from "Scores" thread...)
Good young squad, w/ a very good and hot goalie.
The Mayo game showed that Faribault needs to work on getting the puck out of their zone, and transition it to offense, and then keep the puck in the O zone. None of that happened on Tuesday in Rochester. The game was close only on the scoreboard, yes where it counts, but looking at where the Falcons need to be, it was not a good night for them. The shot count, 60-6, was a true indicator of the play in the game.
Northfield may be a more complete team at this point because of their upperclassman leadership and offensive zone abilities, with all else equal. Faribault will have a shot in Sections, but again thay need to play better in the D zone first...
To Falcons 89 Fan: it is tough to count on U14 talent for next years varsity. It is a massive jump for these young ladies from youth hockey to high school. I would see the U14 girls start to add meaningful varsity depth in their 2nd year of varsity, just IMO...
Also, I know you were being funny Falcons 89 Fan, but Mayo is just one of four schools, no all star team, as JM, Lourdes, and Century all have some good young players on their teams and in the youth system coming up...
Rocket78: Mayo needs to get stronger shots, improve their shot selection, and score more with the opportunities that they develop. If Mayo had one or two pure snipers to go w/ the game they have... wow...

Wow!! Try to get things stirred up a little and you are meet with an calm and insightful analysis of the game. (Difference between Mayo fans and Austin/AL fans. Of course, when your programs have hit bottom, it's better to stay quiet.)
I hate to say it, but I agree. Actually the first meeting, despite the results, was a better game. I do have to hand it to the girls, they mounted a comeback after giving up the goal and hung on shorthanded in the last 2 mins.
I understand regarding U14 talent, however the girls who will help will be sophomores and freshman next year, not 7/8 graders, so they will be physically ready to play high school.
I hope Mayo can knock off the Lakeville teams. Good Luck.

Very good game last night between Red Wing and Northfield. Red Wing wins 4-2, but ended up being a closer game than it looked like it would be after the first and most of the second. The third period was very entertaining. Northfield seemed to wake up and came out playing very physical. The period was filled with penalties and some great hitting! Northfield might be a bigger and older team than Red Wing, but RW makes up for it with some great skaters and can push back when they need to play a physical style. I think Red Wing's age might fool people, but they have some tough kids and love to mix it up as well.

It is offically over for Austin. 5-0 Faribault, season sweep!! Faribault's domination will continue for many years as evidenced by Faribault's U-14's destruction of Austin's JV, 9-0 and that's with calling off the dogs.Falcon 89 Fan wrote: Of course, when your programs have hit bottom, it's better to stay quiet.
Faribault dosen't graduate anyone, while Austin graduates their best player, whom by the way isn't nearly the player without Jenkins on her line.
At least they have the memory of Faber and Jenkins. Hopefully Brey enjoyed relying on Faber and Jenkins because he has a long 5 years ahead of him.

Back by popular demand, I am back on the scene after my hiatus.
I would like to think all of my adoring fans for their many supportative emails and private messages. I never knew I had such an impact on section 1A. I never knew that puckhog and RSI were just a loud minority in the world of girls hockey. It feels good to spread my Falcon wings again and soar to the top.
I think it was officially over for Austin when Jenkins graduated last year. I think Austin now realizes it, and have joined their cousins from Albert Lea , in hiding. I think the one computer in Albert Lea is now broken and they are left in the dark. That would explain their pleasant silence.
Did you notice how obnoxious the Austin fans were in their house last night. When your beat, just accept it and move on. They are louder at losing than winning.
I agree the best for Faribault is yet to come. I still think we have the potential to make some noise though in the section playoff. We need to learn how to finish a game and play 3 complete intense periods of hockey. Northfield is slumping. A loss to John Marshal and to Redwing. Dvorak may not be able to carry that team. The big question is who is the #1 seed now. Northfield or Redwing? Does it really matter.
Faribault is and will always be the greatest.

Where is taking names now? Mabey taking names is now taking meds and has come back to reality.taking names wrote:Falcon 89, I take it you lack on a good education. With Austin's quick skaters they could beat your team. It will be a good game if they play as a team. I really cant wait though to come and watch when albert lea plays your team and just slaughters them.
Austin however has a new team. Fast players and should be better soon. But the season has just started so it could be a complete surprise. Just like last year was.
Austin has really quick players

At least somebody in Austin has it figured out.By Scott A. Kolb
Post-Bulletin, Austin MN
Gaining better seeding position in the upcoming section hockey playoffs just got a lot tougher for the Austin High girls after Tuesday night's home loss.
The visiting Faribault Falcons swept the season series from the Austin Packers with a 5-0 win at Riverside Arena. Last year, the Packers beat the Falcons in the section championship game, so it appears the balance of power has shifted between the two teams.
Faribault's high-scoring forwards are a year older, and they punished the Austin defense.

Getting the one, two, or even three seed really doesn't matter. At some point; Red Wing, Faribault, Northfield, and possibly Albert Lea will have to play each other for the section championship anyways so maybe having the third seed and getting a warm-up game isn't so bad.
In the end it truly doesn't matter, because all roads lead through RED WING!!!

If this was played at Northfield, I am guessing the Nfld Refs tried to get them back in the game. Seen that in most of Northfields games when a team gets close to beating them! Glad to see Red Wing dominate to the end.TheSouthSide wrote:Very good game last night between Red Wing and Northfield. The officiating in that game was actually quite horrible, for both sides. This brings up a side question I've wondered for a while now. Are these refs mshsl refs and they just go where they're told or are they actually local refs? I wouldn't think they're local because I've never recognized one and that could cause some one sidedness.hockeygroupie wrote:

As for the actual game. Northfield was sluggish the first two periods. They woke up in the third but it was too late. It should have been a closer game than it was. Northfield has been a bit of a slump lately, since losing to JM. They seem to be lacking energy, something that hopefully disappears by the time sections comes around.
On a side note the Nfld girls got together a present and cards for the Red Wing goalie. I'm glad that hockey can bring together two competing teams and unite them over something much bigger than a sport.

How true we have a tendency to forget.
our Shakopee Girls had a big banner made and gave it to Quinn last
Friday night, after the game it said
"WE MAY BE OPPONENTS ON THE ICE BUT OUR THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOU DURING YOUR FIGHT" it had a cancer ribbon with hockey sticks on the ends of the ribbon.
it is a sad day when anyone has to go through what she will be going through and our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to her and her family in these days to come.
