If the Duluth area (Hermantown, East, Marshall, Denfeld, Cloquet etc.) were to have tryouts for one team and moved into class AA, how competitive would they be with the State's best? Also, what would the lines for this team look like?
They would obviously be good but would they be a sure-fire State Champ?

If you took the Duluth schools not including Hermantown and only incuded Marshall kids who live within the Duluth Public School district you would have a graduating class of less than 800. If you took these kids and made one varsity team in my opinion they would be the most dominating team in the state over the last 10 years easily. They consistenly would have had the talent level of the 2005 Moorhead team.

THE TOPIC IS WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF YOU COMBINED THE DULUTH SCHOOLS. AS MENTIONED IN THE PREVIOUS POST I MENTIONED THE COMBINED ENROLLMENT WOULD HAVE GRADUATING CLASSES LESS THEN 800. I BELIEVE WHITE BEAR IS THAT ALONE.

Re: Duluth
They already do that dont they??? They are called the Greyhounds, right? Then the table scraps go over to Marshall. But from what I heard they hold Lumber Jack contests all Summer and the winners play 3rd line at DE or head to Hermantown.OldTimePuck00 wrote:If the Duluth area (Hermantown, East, Marshall, Denfeld, Cloquet etc.) were to have tryouts for one team and moved into class AA, how competitive would they be with the State's best? List of HS enrollments: http://www.mshsl.org/mshsl/enrollments09.asp
These numbers are a bit skewed since they make an adjustment for free/reduced lunch kids, but they are what the MSHSL uses to determine enrollment.

It would be the top foward lines from each school and the two best d from each and you add situational players for fourth line and hermantown's and east's starting goalies....
And for the comment about the scraps going to marshall I would like to point out how many players from marshall would be starting for east if they were there... Hurley marshalls senior defensemen bushey would be starting for denfeld as would wentz and judd... Not to mention the players were in east district in the years past like your connolly's, mahoney's, kozlak's, paul's' and matt leturneau, and kevin jones.. these players are from from table scraps... and all went on to play hockey after high school
but like others said you could do that for any area but the fact is duluth is coming close to that realization with one public school getting shut down and increasing enrollment at the other schools not to mention the "SCRAPS" that would decide to go to marshall
