U-16 How does the competion look

Post by HappyHockeyFan »

Just wondering how everybody views there U16 team this year...Eagan starts up on Tuesday Vs Edina Green...Not sure what to think of Eagan at this point, they have 18 skaters ( a handful from other associations ) and 3 goalies. So it might take a few games to come together, but who knows.

Centennial's U16 team looks very strong. They are a very fast and physical team.

Champlin Park's U16 team looks very good. They should be there in the end.

My prediction is that Champlin Park wins the State (they're big, fast, and give up only about 10 shots a game).

Centennial is next best followed by Woodbury, Edina, and Wayzata Gold.

Is it true that Centennial's U16 team is picked before it's B team?

Thats what I heard, I think Champlin Park must do the same, those two teams are head and shoulders above the rest of the pack..

For Champlin Park the player must declare before tryouts if they are trying out for the 16U team. If the player does not make the 16U team then they are on the JR Gold B team or cut all together.

Champlin Park's 16U beat Centennial 5-1 in the semis of the Schwans Cup tourney and then won the tourney the next day. Champlin Park beat Centennial 3-0 on 1/5/09.

Champlin's team is good because of a "bubble" of players playing hockey that were born in '91, '92, or '93. Most of the players on the Jr Gold A team are seniors, and most of the players on the 16U team are juniors.

Hudson, Stillwater, and North St. Paul all have good 16U teams that will get better as the year goes on.

The region and state tourneys for 16U will be entertaining to watch.

My son plays on the Eagan U16 team and last friday we were tied with them 2-2 with 3 minutes to go...ended up losing 5-2 on 3 late goals but they gave them a game!

U16 is all 10th graders and JGB is all 11th and 12th graders that didn't make JGA. but i would put money on the U16 team to beat the JGB

Nice job ponies, I was at a Girls game last night at Stillwater and see you beat another Edina team pretty soundly--something like 4-0?

You guys look good.

Have any of you guys indentified some stand out players in the U16 ranks yet? I've watched a couple of games and frankly, I'm amazed at the skills of some of the players. How did they not make the JV teams at least?

Minnetonka looks like a JV team to me and I saw a couple of kids on Stillwater's U16 that looked very good.

Stillwater beat two Edina black, Edina white and Hastings a combined 18-0 (6-0 all 3 games).

We lost to OMG 4-1 last night. We played one of our worst games of the year and still should have won. The ref took the game over and that's all she wrote. Our kid got a good check on one of the OMG kids, the OMG kid charged back to retaliate and our kid raised his stick to protect himself.

Our kid got the penalty-5 min major for cross checking in the face! Probably the worst call I have ever seen. The ref made sure we were at least one man short until OMG had a 3-1 lead (he chatted with the rink people during breaks, obviously a hometown ref).

We played bad, but we should have won. The worst officiated game I personally have ever seen.

I play JGB for wayzata gold... and i havent seen any U-16 this year.. but! we played minnetonka JGB and they were god awful! prob one of the worst JGB teams out there today. according to u guys minnetonka is pretty dominant in u16 so i wouldnt be suprised if they picked U16 before their JGB to try and win a state title

As was already said, every sophomore that tried out for tonka is on u16. There is no picking. So don't say they are trophy chasing

From one perspective, this seems to be the exactly what they are doing.

If a sophomore is good enough to make varsity, they do not automatically stick them on JV.

It is not like the high schools have a varsity, a JV and a U16 team.

If I am being cynical, this seems to be another example of having one more level to have another trophy to pass out at the end of the year.

Hudson...Stacked team??

Post by HappyHockeyFan »

Does it seem odd to anyone how Hudson U16 posted normal scores the first 3 or 4 games they played this year and then suddenly this past weekend post 18 goals against Edina White and 8 against Eagan Green? Makes me wonder if they were short players, maybe gone on vacation, and brought some other players in. Just seems weird the way suddenly are an offensive powerhouse on consecutive days. Maybe its nothing.
