New Ulm will be the team to beat if the playoffs were today. They have the most fire power and a good goalie. I think they are improving the most as a team, and Hutch seems to be sliding downward. Hutch is solid, but will have problems with NU. Redwood will come in confident because they have a good record. They have kids that work hard and don't give up. Couple good scorers too. They won't know how to play a good team though. Litch is shaky; they can be good, but sometimes inconsistent. The goalie is pretty good, and some good forwards. Marshall - what is going on there? They were way better at the beginning and had a good goalie. Again - what is going on in Marshall? They haven't lost any players, so why can't they put it together? I don't see any stand out players there either - especially scorers. Scrappy yes - but no one can put it in the net. Windom could always be the spoiler. They are unorthodox and can surprise you. They don't have much of anything for good hockey though.
Ya never know what can happen when the playoffs roll around. NU will probably choke again

Hutch lost big.... 8-1? to Prior Lake.. any details on that? off game for hutch? or is prior lake a good team, i dont think they are.. usually arent
Marshall beats morris 3-0... shots 34-26 in favor of marshall.
also luverne beat morris benson a few days ago... 3-1.
also found this little bit on redwood from followthepuck.com
And, finally, you have those teams with great looking records but they do not beat anyone with a winning record. Redwood Valley is 15-2-0. Their two losses were to St. Paul Academy (5-13-0) and Windom Area (6-10-1) very early in the season and they were both by one goal. Still, it is hard to know how good they are when they do not even face the tougher teams in their own Section 3A during the season like New Ulm (40 miles away), Hutchinson (62 miles away), or even Litchfield/Dassel-Cakato (72 miles away). Most of their own conference games are further away than Litchfield/DC. Redwood Valley was supposed to go far with their 18-5-1 regular season last season but they lost to Litchfield/DC (9-16-0 at the time) in the first round.

I think Redwood was able to pick up a game with Litch next year. They did loose to Litch in sections last year by 1 goal, Both New Ulm and Hutch have no room on the schedule but if someone falls out will consider a game! They will keep trying but these games are tough to schedule because Redwood is only in its 5th season in High School Hockey it took a Year and a half to get the first win, now 15-2 against mostly the same teams? And now they don't play anyone with a winning record? At least they are. getting talked about! Thanks again sregit34 for your thoughts and concerns it is so nice to hear from you again- I missed the quote you found I will print it and put it in my scrap book - I call it Southwest Conference From worst to first!

Redwood, Marshall, Morris, and the rest have nothing compared to Hutch and NU. I personally can't wait to see Redwood crumble when they finally play someone good in the section playoffs. We will see what golfer5 has to say then
Waconia has a stud freshman forward; Redwood is solid ONLY in SW conference play - Can't do anything outside of the conference; they should beat Waconia (only because they are a new program) and because they have kids that can score on their team; Waconia needs a stronger goalie. Marshall is scrappy, but can't score; they do well when the senior goalie plays; Morris works hard, but they don't have enough depth - they need a JV program; Litch is just too questionable - they are like Marshall.
It still comes down to NU and Hutch; as of late though, Hutch could be beat. I think NU will beat Marshall, but if Marshall works hard they could beat Hutch. It will come down to who wants it the most. Marshall can only beat NU if the goalie has another great night. I don't think they can put up enough shots to win. NU has a lot of weapons. As for the other section games, since redwood plays no one challenging, it isn't worth talking about. Can't beleive Worthington beat Luverne though...
I still don't know what a bender is, but I don't really care either????

I dont really see why you are saying redwood will crumble in the section tournament. Then you are saying marshall could beat hutch if they work hard, and Redwood just recently beat marshall 7-3 and beat them earlier in the season, so wouldnt that mean they could compete with/beat hutch? and marshall beat new ulm earlier in the season (i know a lot changes during the season and teams get stronger and may have a few bad games and stuff like that) but wouldnt that also mean redwood could compete with/beat new ulm too?it just seems like your contradicting yourself.i guess we will see how marshall/new ulm match up against each other on thursday.and how they match up against hutch on saturdayhoccardger wrote:Redwood, Marshall, Morris, and the rest have nothing compared to Hutch and NU. hey - marshallisawful - sounds to me like you really wish you were from Marshall - I don't know why, but you Redwood players sure seem hung up on Marshall for some reason. Be happy with your season. I just think Redwood hasn't proven themselves and because they have one of the easiest schedules in the state, they get a false sense of success. Yep you beat Marshall - but they can't score
Marshall did well against Lourdes and the teams in the cities - just because you beat them, doesn't mean you could beat Lourdes or NU. NU will be all over them this Thursday.
I think Marshall has good kids, they just can't put it together for some reason. Seems to me their problems are not their hockey ability, but something else. I think Hutch and Litch are the same way. Good hockey teams, but maybe lacking the leadership or something, ...I don't see that Redwood really has enough of anything to be that great. They work hard - that is true, have a couple good scorers, but can't see them doing anything against a good team. No depth. Prove me wrong - but the way RW talks on here, I am cheering for who ever you are playing against.
Move to Marshall if you are so hooked on them. They could use some help Sorry RW, but NU and Hutch and possibly Litch will be more than you can handle.

Actually i'm rather happy i'm not from marshall.ha. And yes i think a 15-2 season is something to be happy about, give they may have an easy schedule, but still they are getting the job done winning by like 5-6 goals a game so that is sort of saying something. I just really wish there would be scheduled games of RW vs NU or Hutch, but those schools arent willing to drop games to play RW. So nobody ever knows anything until sections actually come And as far as marshall not being able to score, isnt that a big part of the game? if you cant score you cant win right. And pretty sure nobodies (besides sregit34, but that was more towards the beginning of the season) is really talking crap, so i dont know why your talking about the way we talk on here, but whatever. I just cant wait till section playoffs and we'll see what happen i guess!hoccardger wrote:hey - marshallisawful - sounds to me like you really wish you were from Marshall - I don't know why, but you Redwood players sure seem hung up on Marshall for some reason. TIME OUT!!!! before anybody starts rippin' on Redwood's "ability" to do anything in sections or against their season. Let me ask one question.... are you making these assumptions from what you read on the internet or have you actually took time out of your lives to go watch them play and judge them from what you see?? just asking. cuz everybody knows what happens when you ASSUME...
double timeout

The Prior Lake whiping of Hutch doesn't say much for them, but in their defense, Prior Lake looks to be playing pretty solid hockey currently. They beat Northfield handily on Saturday, took care of Hutch on Monday, and outplayed a top ten So. St. Paul team on Tuesday, for a one goal loss.
Still, bad performance by Hutch at a time when things need to start clicking. We'll see how they respond this week-end with Farmington and Marshall.

That's to bad I love that place! Yes I have passion for the players they all work so hard and when they get dumped on for things they can't always control example strength of schedule or not enough kids to have a successful program it ticks me off! Programs come and go and in small towns u have Basketball, wrestling that go up and down with trends as well! It depends on where the interest is. Ionce worked in Warroad back in the 80s for 6 months all Hockey and nothing else matterd I saw a football game there and the kids shuffled in and out of a bus on the sidelines like a warming house-maybe 50 people watching the game, Couldn't get in the Hockey game later that winter it sold out? I can't imagine pulling all the studs in town and start skating at 5 and build a program!timcorbin21 wrote:to golfer5 you probably mean the whole hog, it closed a few months ago
lot of passion on 3a.

What are your predictions for the New Ulm vs Marshall game this evening? New Ulm needs to make a statement after losing their first meeting with the Tigers. Litch beat the Tigers early in January 5-2 and Redwood has beaten them twice, 7-3 the last meeting. Should be an interesting game to watch, I am predicting a 6-2 Eagles victory!

Marshal over new Ulm 3-2 in OT. Wow
Cant wait to here details from sregit34 congrates.
Looks like there are some tough teams in that conference after all.
Redwood clinches 2nd consecutive sole Championship of the Southwest Conference with a win over Sleepy Eye. 4-1
Nice Job Boys.
