HBD..... after being home and watching the Mahtomedi vs Hermantown game on TV, and then taking the 7-mile drive to the X for tonight, all I can say that being a White Bear resident, and being so close to both Mahtomedi and the H-M programs, it's heartbreaking to see both teams lose.

With that said, how can you argue against tonight's game??... Not only did I start feeling the tension myself, but the emptiness in my gut.. my heart sank.. after H-M losing.. I felt it moreso tonight than the Vikes NFC Championship loss!!!

I was sitting right on center ice, club level between the colorful gorillas and right below part 1 of the H-M student section... What a great job by the H-M kids, interacting between the band in the lower bowl, and the upper section, and with the 40-year-old drunk man, from North St. Paul that despises H-M, that was sitting behind me. Het got up and started the "Give me a P.... Give me and I...." chant.... It was hilarious.

The Tonka student section was massive and great, too..

Then you had all the fuddie duddies sitting on their hands in the lower bowl!!!!

It was hilarious to listen to all of the different groups of students chanting back and forth to each other during the late game tonight .... Minnetonka, Blaine, Apple Valley, Edina, and Hill.

yeah, being live doesnt compare to anything else....even tho Tonka didnt play their best game tonight, and still won in 4 OT...that was classic...

but as far as excitement goes..you can definetly argue the A game was better.....back and forth in the 3rd, HTown erasing a 2 goal lead late in the game..the goal disallowed...THe OT...

It was all great...the biggest winner tonight were the fans...whether you went to the A session or the AA session, or both...you were treated to some great hockey

Hermantown n Mahtomedi was great back n forth action with lots of scoring and scoring chances. I thought both teams were real aggressive and played to win.

Tonka n H.M. was not even close in exciting play. The real drama was to see who could score. Very few good scoring chances, not much hitting, and both defences playing a shut down style and not taking any chances. No odd man rushes. It will only be remembered for going sooo long.

The Hermantown comeback and the too late goal by Mahtomedi IS the all-time classic game.

Both games were great.
Always nice to see the overtimes.

But I have to give it to the Tonka-Hill Game, Wow!
Almost setting a state record. Both teams played great!
Congrats to Tonka on the win. and to Hill was a hard fought game.

I was at both games and I can't decide which was a better game to watch. I think a person new to the game would say the maht-herman game, but I think a hockey fan would has to admire the courage that both tonka and hill players showed last night for almost two full games. I never in a million years would have thought that anything would have topped the OT thriller yesterday afternoon, but that game last night just might have done that....

The H-M/Tonka game was terrible for 3+ periods, cripes 9 shots on goal in 3 periods from the supposed best team in the state? No passing, no skating, etc. a lot of that has to do with H-M and their game plan and hats off to them for that after all you play the game to win not to entertain us.

Starting in the second overtime though that game turned and was much better.

Without Kruger Tonka loses that game and their game with North is much closer. Kruger is an underated net minder and is why Tonka is playing tonight.

This is why they should put the fuddy duddys up stairs and the Kids in the lower bowl. Never happen, but would be nice. That's why the A tourney is fun to be at.

No question. But it's a Cities Tourney, not a State Tourney unfortubately. Lets move it to the new DECC Arena next year. Yea right.

I guess, here's my rationalization...

I was at Game 7 of the '91 World Series.... That was a 1-0 game, that purists rank as one of the greatest games ever, because of the pitching, the defense and the drama...

With this being 4 OTs, that IS the only reason.. It is alot harder to game plan a solid defensive style when there are a couple of awfully skilled offensive teams.. And in the end, the better players won.. What makes this one a bit more special, is you even have WBL people gaining some respect for H-M and even some admitting rooting for them to win. Needless to say, if this ended after 1 or 2 OTs, I wouldn't feel the same.

Part of this is that I admit I have the bias of being from WBL and close to both H-M and Mahtomedi, and the things I appreciate about a quality hockey game..

As has been described about the Hermantown-Mahtomedi game, the back and forth play, the skills showed by the star players and the drama to the end of regulation has it's merits.

I have no problems making either game 1A and 1B, especially with some of the blowouts earlier in the tourney...
