SEC Breakdown
Top team:
White Bear Lake- Good offense with the best line in the conference. Play solid defense also, giving up the least amount of goals per game while playing the toughest schedule so far.
Teams that will battle for 2nd:
Stillwater- Outstanding defensemen with big accurate shots. Like many SEC teams struggle to put the puck in the net. Strong goaltending.
Cretin- Unlike most teams in the SEC they can score, unlike many SEC teams they also give up alot of goals. Strong 1st line. Questionable depth but can beat anyone when the 1st line is rolling.
Top half teams:
Roseviile- A team in need of averaging 1 more goal a game. Only giving up an average of 2.08 goals a game. Maybe the best goaltending duo in the SEC.
Forest Lake- Another team looking for more offense. If the top line can get going they will climb higher.
Hastings- Top line is underrated, they move the puck and create chances. Only giving up a little over 2 goals a game. They will surprise some teams above them.
The rest:
Mounds View- Tough team to play as WBL found out. Scrappy team that never lets up. Teams cannot overlook the Mustangs.
Woodbury- Inconsistent, playing better than most thought after graduating 16 seniors.
East Ridge- Another team that teams shouldn't overlook. Play with intensity and they like to play physical.
Park-Cottage Grove- Have a couple of players that can create on offense. Giving up too many goals to compete consistently.
Predicted finish:
1 White Bear Lake
2 Cretin
3 Stillwater
4 Roseville
5 Hastings
6 Forest Lake
7 Woodbury
8 Mounds View
9 East Ridge
10 Park Cottage Grove

Let me just set the record straight on the WBL/MV game last night. The Bears dominated most of the game, going up 3-0. MV scored on a 5 on 3, and then again on the second penalty after the first one was released. The Mustangs scored again with about -2 seconds left on the clock, it looked to me like the Bears should have won, but MV got lucky with the officiating and brought it to OT.
You gotta stay out of the box, otherwise you end up with everyone looking back at a 3-3 tie and thinking it was some kind of major upset, and it drags your ranking down. This is two years in a row where I've watched the Mustangs celebrate like they won the Stanley Cup in OT of game 7.

Always celly hard.

I have seen that team play. Their first line is very good. I was impressed with how fast Nelson was. That kid can fly.
I have also seen Stillwater play and they have very good defense.
White bear has good defense and a very good first line. Wahlin is very quick and complements in linemate Birkinbine well.

Perhaps that's the problem. Maybe you should tell the kids to skate & the results may be better.
As for the conference, all I know is that year after year, a team from our conference beats teams from the SEC & plays in the State Tournament.

PPG Last time your beloved Pioneers bumped into an SEC team at the state tournement, they took a loss to the hands of Woodbury. The Goalie was so upset at the fans, he threw his stick at them into the stands. real class actPioneerprideguy wrote:old goalie85 wrote:Sounds Like the one with the green face, and no youth program of his own. I was wrong. Here I thought Flake was just an average team in an average conference. For Flake to travel up to Duluth & play Duluth East tough was quite an accomplishment. East is an elite AA team and losing to them shouldn't cause the Flake fans to hang their heads. It's East! I look at that game as a moral victory for the program and the conference. Good thing is, now they can concentrate on facing teams of their ability the rest of the week as the face SEC foes. Go Rangers!
