Probably of interest to some: For only the second time in history, North Dakota has a boys state hockey champion from the west region. Bismarck High School knocked off Grand Forks Central HS. last night. The only other time a west team won was 1992 Minot. And I believe Grand Forks Central has about 28 of the titles...

Central won most of those titles in the 60s and 70s when there were only a handful of eastern ND teams playing, then Red River was built in the mid 70s and shared Central's dominance since, with a few years of Fargo South and Grafton/Park River mixed in. Other than Minot and a few Bismarck teams, the west is rarely a threat.
Watching the game last night, I would say both Central and Bismarck would be #4 seeds in Section 8A although both have AA enrollments.
