Bemidji has really turned out a solid football program. Kudos to the Lumberjacks!
Their high school coaches work extremely hard.
The leaders of the youth (3 4 5 grade) are non-parents and went and adopted Eden Prairie methods (with approval) and make it fun and developmental for the young ones and their parents.
And off course, success breeds success.
And the players are committed all year to getting bigger, stronger, faster and smarter.
Helluva football model Elliot!!
As you know here in the 'Rapidly Declining' that football model just wouldn't work, as everything is "grand" in the non football soccer mom enclave.
"B as in B, S as in S"
Section 1 just took 5 out 7 football titles! North, Owatonna, Lourdes,Caledonia, and Spring Grove....
Caledonia has the longest winning streak the nation.
Since I still can’t post on Minnesota scores.......
Numbers are an issue in most schools, specializing is an issue but IMHO it is less than fees and who plays. Interestingly I had a long discussion with an AD who talked about fewer kids playing football but had the the highest number of kids out for fall sports he has had in 20 years.....soccer and volleyball both being sports that cut kids, but swimming and cross country who let every kid participate are growing, add fall trap shooting and never before have more kids participated in fall sports.
In my area LaCrescent is not playing football, Red Wing is but was unsure until recently, those are 3A and 4A schools. Nine man gained two schools and one still opts up to 11 man. Many schools are dropping under varsity levels.... nobody is adding them.
Two defending state champs just got beat handily; Spring Grove and Lourdes. Watch out for Winona in 4A, Chatfield to upset Caledonia in 2A. Owatonna should continue their domination in 5A. It has been a while since section 1 hasn’t won a nine man title and I think Southland keeps that streak alive.
