No Bingo at Roseau Memorial -

How about that Bingo sign that FSN put the spotlight on? I bet the locals are upset over the fact that Bingo is cancelled for the weekend. Are they going to cancel the barn dance scheduled for Roseau Memorial as well?

Ufda, Sven - what do we do now?

Agreed. Nice to be able to see some of the stuff behind the play as well. Not at all saying Warroad was going to win, but some little things make a difference and Roseau definitely benifited from a few missed calls. Ness is a phenom and will have a bright future, but I'm wondering how many more phantom assists he's gotten. He needs no help padding the point total. Just because Roseau scores when he's out there doesn't mean he set it up. Not a big deal though, just an observation. One other missed call that might have made a difference was a check from behind in the second. Should have been at the minimum a boarding call but went unnoticed. My belief is the Rams are beatable, but will take an outstanding effort. I'm sure they played down to their competition a bit, but personally, I was more impressed with the way Edina played in the 4 times I've seen them.

You are 100% right "Skime Store". If this board gave a brain scan before you could post "Undercover Hockey Lover" would only be allowed to color and I'm sure he wouldn't be able to color in the lines. \:D/

I was at the game and the Rams were solid for two periods. I agree some calls were "not there" that should have been called, but in H.S hockey that happens.

Third period I think Warroad carried the play. They seemed to have a bit more in their step than the Rams.

Overall, about what I expected.

I think FSN did a great job proving that a game can be televised in the Memorial Arena. Kudos to them for a nice job.

Loved the Roseau locker room complete with dividing wall down the middle. Great city, tons of tradition, crappy locker room. kinna funny.

Apparently the cameras did not give you a good view of the locker room, because there's no wall running down the middle! There are four or five cement pillars but no wall!

Both of his assists last night were absolutely legit. What game were you watching? I have the game on DVR and both assists were as clear as day.

The first goal (where he got the second assist), he took the outlet pass from Lee near Roseau's blue line and made the quick cross ice pass that led to the 2 on 1 goal. The second goal is even more obvious since he put the pass right to the goal mouth tap in.

You might want to watch the first goal a little closer, he passed it to George, then George passed it to Cole and then back to George, now unless they give 3 assists he didn't get one!!! Phantom

Kinna funny how "nice" this locker room is if you have a chance to see it in person........

I'm sure there are many players who would love to have this as "their" locker room.........

Wow, are you that ignorant on how assists are given out? It doesn't matter if there was a couple of passes between the same two players after Ness made the pass. Look into the rules.

Only "dividing wall" in there is concrete and every inch of those locker rooms smell like they're producing champions down there. Kind of funny how great the varsity locker room is after earned a stall in it. How many rinks are in your neck of the woods with seven championship banners hanging of the ceiling?

I honestly didn't know that either... I could have swore it was by the last players to touch the puck.

So if player "A" makes a pass from the defensive zone to player "B" who takes it in the opponents zone deep, and then plays keep away with player "C" for three or four passes without the opponent touching it, and then "C" scores "A" still gets the assist??

That is correct. If a defenseman makes an outlet pass from his zone leading to a two on one.... and the puck gets passed back and forth by the the two players on the two on one a few times, the defenseman still gets an assist.

I would bet many assist are not given in this case as at times it could be hard to keep track of...never to old to learn something...right elliott? :D

The assist rule is pretty vague and up to interpretation, so everyone could be right here.

http://www.nhl.com/rules/rule57.html
j. When a player scores a goal, an "assist" shall be credited to the player or players taking part in the play immediately preceding the goal, but no more than two assists can be given on any goal. Each "assist" shall count one point in the player's record.
Nothing about unique here. And nothing about order of puck movement, just that the play involves the player(s) taking part in the play. Unless there's something different in a MN high school hockey handbook somewhere, I'd say it's pretty much up to ref's opinion on the play on handing out assists.

And an interesting perspective on some wacky assist calls:

So with that said, you could have all 6 players on the ice touching the puck in a manner that starts an up ice rush resulting in a goal, therefore having 5 assists? Come on  I know that's an excessive example, but seriously. Just because he made a breakout pass and the other two players started a great rush, does he really deserve credit? I also know it's not a big deal, but how many points are accumulated this way? I'd be willing to bet there's lots of other players around the state that would like to see this scoring method used in their games. As I said before, he doesn't need any help padding his stats. And nowhere did I see anyone question his second assist. Great play, great pass. Almost did a no-look thing there.

I find it funny that somebody complains how assists have been dealt out over many decades.

Not complaining, just asking a simple question. Did you notice I said, "I know this is an excessive example"? Lighten up, Ness is God. You guys happy?
