Not that this means anything, but this is the same score Roseau beat Rapids by in 1980 when Jon Casey was goalie for the Indians. The main diffenerce is that year Grand Rapids only lost one game all year and they were State Champs.

GR lost 5 or 6 games in the 80 season.If I remember correctly, they lost 3 in a row at one point. They did get on a roll and win state however.

Rapids was 18-5 going to the tourney with first game at state being hopkins lindberg . East grand forks was the section 8 champ

The outlook for Rapids is not good. Past success does not ensure present success. Rapids has not beaten a quality team this year. They also have "bad" losses to Forest Lake and Hibbing. I'm not a big fan of analyzing a game by shots on goal, but being outshot by almost 3 to 1 is not a very good sign. The only reason Rapids has a shot at state is because of their goaltending. Coach LaRoque is getting everything he can, but the talent level is not the same as it has been the last two years. Good luck to Rapids, but don't expect to get past Anoka.

I would have to agree with your comment.First they need to get the power play together and learn the short game the long passes out of the zone dont work and will casue take overs use the short pass.SHOOT SHOOT AND SHOOT,stop the 20 pass game and put it on net.we need some play makers that can get the puck in the net.The penalty kill is good but thats the grand rapids style of defensive hockey.Time to play offense

I was at the game last night. GR played as scrappy as they could, and were in the game til the end. Roseau is the real deal, but not as deep as people would think. Ness is very, very good, but showed too much arrogance for my liking. When he scored, he put on a little show to draw attention to himself rather than celebrating with his teammates. Every time he was touched, he complained to the refs. I saw him chirping quite often at other players on his team if they didn't do what he wanted. He's definitel a top player, but at times, his individual efforts left his linemates confused about where he was going. The shots were a bit skewed I think too. The 18-4 count in the 1st didn't really tell the tale. Of those 18, half or better were from way out. Underwood and Tababka played outstanding though as they were pressed at times. Not taking anything away from Roseau, as they did carry most of the play, but the reffing was horrid. And Cooper was not the reason. He maybe made one call(hit on Ness by Skrbec). His partner was ridiculous though. Kleinendorst buried a guy with a clean, hard hit in the crease as the guy was about to shovel in a loose puck, and was given a high stick penalty. The calls definitely favored the home team. That said, Roseau still earned the W. Good luck to them if they make it to state. I'm of the opinion that they don't have enough depth to get by an Edina or Minnetonka, but we'll see. As for GR, they played tough, scrappy hockey and got great goaltending. Two key ingredients for a successful playoff run. They've just got to find a way to bury the puck.

Well said. I have felt all year the Rams are a top 5 team, but not dominant. They are on par to last years team. Very good, but they are beatable. The expectations are high, and I feel the Rams will focus once the playoffs begin.

Don't take them lightly, as they have many good players to burn the best of teams.
Now, let the post season begin. What fun!

If the calls favored the home team how come Roseau had two goals waved off? The quick whistle on the one happens but the hand pass was as phantom of a call you can get.

Roseau was very impressive. Their forecheck is relentless and they totally smother your breakout in the neutral zone. Ness didn't disappoint and Tyler Landman is one heck of a player and just like the state final last season, he rarely lost a faceoff. Roseau may not have the individual talent that Edina does, but they play better as a team and their work ethic is incredible. The orange put up a great effort, particularily the goaltenders, but they need to start burying the puck when the opportunities are there. The officiating was very one-sided, but I'm not convinced it affected the outcome of the game. Roseau did seem to get away with a lot of late hits. Even though the T-Hawks didn't play great, hanging tight with one of the states elites has to boost their confidence going into the sectionals.

There were some quality wins this season. Look at the schedule Rapids plays and how they did play very well against some of the states best teams. If the boys can start capitalizing on their opportunities, they can make a run once again. Don't want to look passed Forest Lake, but I think the Hawks would welcome another chance to play the Tornadoes.
