Quick and easy. Rapids (20-1) will play Anoka or Duluth East tonight. Either one looks to present a tougher test.
I'm up in Gr tonight, what time is the Game?
7 p.m. (estimated) at Legion Field.

Both Tartan & Cretin are eliminated. I didn't think I would see this. Stillwater is still unbeaten in sections. I think Woodbury could give them a battle for the section championship but we could also see both the baseball & softball teams in the State Tournaments. I work in Oak Park Heights so I would hear quite a lot about it just like when the girl's hockey team won State in '07.

Duluth East 0
Grand Rapids improves to 21-1 and wins their first two section games by a combined 16-0 score.
Grand Rapids will face #1 Cambridge (21-1) on Tuesday @ 5 p.m. in Cambridge.

Eden Prairie beats Minnetonka 6-5 in 12 innings last night at Chaska athletic park. EP gains the right to face Chaska again tonight at 7. If EP wins tonight, a final chanpionship game between those two teams would take place Wednesday night (if the weather holds).

Kyle Kleinendorst. Wood still isn't ready after pitching Saturday. The sophomore will get a chance to make a huge impact later today. Game will be broadcast over 1320 KOZY in Grand Rapids.

Seriously? How many people turn out for a GR high school baseball game? Is there anough interest up there that it warrants radio coverage? Don't get me wrong... I think it's great that they are, but that seems odd to me (although to be fair, the only radio I listen to is Howard Stern and hair metal, so what do I know?

).
Is there any other ball up there aside from the high school/VFW/Boblee Bombers legion? Any amateur or semi-pro ball?

The Varsity Baseball games always have a very good turn out. All playoff games have been broadcast over the radio for many years now. They also do a few regular season games each year. There is an amatuer team in town called the Grand Rapids Red Sox and there is a team in Marble (Greenway) called the Marble Mallards. There are also various other amatuer teams throughout the range.

Stands were full for both games on Saturday. Beautiful day out and the GR faithful packed the stands. Many others on the hillside down left, and the picnic area between the stands & dugout. We love our black & orange no matter the sport.
Good luck to Kyle, still figured it'd be Wood. He only went 5 and didn't throw a lot of pitches. Suppose they're saving him for "what if?" Not a do or die game tonight.

I heard the GR fuzz had to don the riot gear at the season ending cross-country meet.

Larry and Sal broadcasting from the dugout.
Hilarious.
Game should start around 5:30 p.m.

GR falls apart blowing late 5-2 lead in the 6th, giving up the game winner in the bottom of the 7th. Don't have the actual lines, but it sounded like Figgings went 2-2/3 giving up 2, Kleinendorst went 3-1/3 giving up 3 and Skrbec was the tough luck loser going 1/3 giving up 1. Not sure if those were exact, but right around there.
Tough road to hoe now, but Bobber texted me last night and said if anyone's got the depth to pull this off it's GR. He's right, my money's on the black & orange making it to state. Call last night a wake up. 3 straight? It's in the bag.

Woodbury and Stillwater play tonight for Section 4AAA.
Woodbury won last night to force a final game.
2 good teams from a strong conference.
I'd go to the game but I get tired of watching baseball in this crap weather.

Unless that slow moving grey stuff is now the sky.

Cambridge 6
Grand Rapids 5
Final
Grand Rapids will play Duluth East tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
Winner gets Cambridge at 7:00 p.m. to try to force a game Friday.
Grand Rapids has beaten Duluth East twice, 3-1 and 4-0.
Don't count out Rapids. They do have the pitching depth to do it. They have their one-two guys on normal rest and they will have everyone else ready to go. Might see the sophomore Olson even at some point.
Go Rapids.

Watch out for Rochester JM...
Offensive machine all season, down 8-0 (Section Semis) in 1st inning last Saturday to Century, only to come back and win it 15-11!
Section 1AAA Champs!
24-2 and counting...

Apparently the pitcher's brother struck out and didn't agree with the call so he got little bro and catcher to bean the ump.

Chaska beats Eden Prairie 3-0 in the Section 2AAA championship game. Brad Hand shuts the door on a potent EP offense, allowing just 2 hits, striking out 10 and walking 4 in 7 full innings. Good luck to Chaska at State!
