Frosh scoring leaders through Monday, 21 January. Teak will be away from his beloved computer this week, so don't expect an update until the weekend.

Luverne absolutely trashed Breckenridge/Wahpeton 12-1, with Chaz Smedsrud picking up 2 assists. In a 9-0 spanking of Redwood Valley, Chaz picked up 1 goal and 1 assist.

St. Paul Academy took down Ely 17-3 with frosh picking up points:
Justin Jallen 3g
Jared Mickelson 1g 3a

Jesse Gabrielle picked up 2 assists OUTSIDE on the ice of Lake Pokegama as Eagan downed Hibbing/Chisholm 9-2 during Hockey Day Minnesota.

New to Teak's malfunctioning radar, Jack Becker helped Mahtomedi to an 8-0 whitewash of Richfield with 1 goal and 3 assists.

In a game that pitted two freshmen -who lead their respective teams in scoring- against each other, Austen Long came out top, notching 3 goals as Spring Lake Park beat Trey Rooney's Robbinsdale Cooper 14-1. Question: Will Benilde recruit Long for next season?

Nick Swaney scored a short-handed goal, and assisted on another short-handed goal, as Lakeville South beat Rosemount 3-2.

Maxwell Zimmer scored the game-winning goal on a powerplay as #1 ranked Wayzata downed Eden Prairie 4-2.

Looks like freshman Chaz Smedsrud had a big night. According to Hockey Hub he had 5 goals and 1 assist against Worthington.

Yeah, that was a big night.

Hill-Murray promoted 8th grader Joey Anderson to varsity recently, and he responded with the game-winner against St. Thomas Academy and an assist on another goal. You won't see his name in the leader board, however, with 3 points in his first 2 games.

Who you will see in the frosh scoring leader board is:

(Games Played) Goals - Assists (% Involvement in Team Goals)

42 points
Chaz Smedsrud, Luverne (20) 18-24 (32%)

How many points would he get against teams like sta, breck, totino grace, spa , orno or some of the other good teams?

The single A schedule Whopper or Whopper Jr plays isn't all that challenging. The stats would look quite different playing some teams like Tonka, EP, Wayzata, Edina, Eagan, Duluth East, etc, etc, etc. Have it your way.

My bad. I wasn't trying to make this a big discussion about class or opponent. Just posting on the freshman scoring thread about about a freshman who had a nice night. 5 goals and an assist is a pretty good night in any class or against any opponent.

Are you sure jesse g is a freshmen? Thought he was an Edina 8th grader, then a 9th grader in maple grove. Also, how is Joey A an 1998 born 8th grader?
Both good players and probably will not play all 4/5 years of high school hockey.

He never went to Maple Grove. Was an 8th grader at Osseo to start last year. A 9th grader in Eagan this year. Transfered to Eagan at spring break last year.

This will be Jesse's last year of high school Hockey, he's headed to the Wheat Kings next year.

Well, speculation is fine, but those bridges will be crossed when/if they present themselves. Right now he is all-in at Eagan and having the time of his life being a Wildcat at a fantastic school and playing with an exceptional group of kids (on and off the ice) and for coaches he respects. The only future he is focused on right now is his Wildcat future - preparing for the section playoffs with the common goal of getting back to the Excel.

The 98 kids are split between 9th and 8th grade this year just like 97's are split between 9th and 10th.........so on......

That would be great, but it sure seems like the Wheat King folks are expecting him....? Is the new Hockey Academy the thing that drew him to Eagan and would keep him in Minnesota?

I was told he was born in Canada but where did he originally play in Minnesota? Edina, Osseo, Eagan, other?

May be true, but based on the track record, it's unlikely he'll stay anywhere very long - bigger plans.

Wasn't really in Edina very long - tried out for one session as a 1st year Bantam then hit the road.

The Wheat King thing is good motivation for him, but the reality is that those rosters are picked in September at main camp by the team staff, not in the parents home, the kids mind or a forum message board in February. There is a certain honeymoon period right now after he had a strong camp for them in the fall, but the future is still just that.

He's only played one season of youth hockey in Minnesota - last year with Osseo-Maple Grove.

If he keeps working hard, who knows what might happen. But right now he's happy where he is and feels very blessed to be with this group of players and coaches at Eagan High School and focussed on their team goals.

He skated in 2 sessions of Edina's Bantam tryouts while waiting word of acceptance from a late tryout he had with a Tier 1 team. Promptly withdrew when word came.

He thoroughly enjoyed his time as a Hornet though, playing 7th grade football for Josh Budish rank amongst his fondest sports memories.

Don't know about that. Played his first 7 years for the same team. It's not like he's open enrolled since deciding to play in Minnesota. Just plays for the association / high school where his boundaries dictate he's supposed to.

He lived in Edina because his moms nursing school campus was on the Edina/EP border at 169 & 494. Moved to Osseo/Brooklyn Park because her campus changed to that neighborhood (169 & 93). Now her campus is down south ... I guess it's fun to speculate as to the motives of others, but the truth is often pretty boring. Nothing to do with "bigger plans", just the logistics of the current situation

So Jesse G: 7th grade Edina bantam tryouts, 8th grade Osseo/mg bantam, 9th grade Eagan varsity...this is the first player I have heard of to try make the jump to bantams before 8th grade....has anyone ever skated bantams in 7th grade or 6th grade?
