Does anyone really think the rochester teams are going to beat a Lakeville team? I give you the point that Mayo is strong and has a snowballs chance in you know where, but the championship game is going to be the same this year with north playing south. Sorry to burst your buble.

Well it sounds like the typical Mayo team coached by Jeff Whitney....i mean Lorne Grosso has failed to show up in a big game like theyve done in past seasons as there losing to Mankato West 6-2 in the 3rd

If Haskins tried that move on the highlight reel vs Griff Slightham he would have been pasted through the NE boards of the Rec all the way to Postiers...

LHS is playing best hockey right now--things can obviously change, but a 7-3 loss to West by Mayo does not bode well to claim they are "the best" in Roch. Esp since LHS beat MW 3-2 a couple of weeks ago...

Granted LHS lost to EC Memorial 5-6 there, and Mayo be EC Memorial at home during Kiwanis....

Either way, i think it would be a really good game.

Best hockey? Lourdes just needed ot to beat a pretty weak Blake team.

JM had been playing well then needed ot to beat Winona, Mayo had been playing well defensively then this happens, Lourdes defense tends to disappear on occasion as well.

I think all this shows is the Rochester teams are very consistent at being inconsistant. (Except Century who has been pretty consistently bad)

Playoff time

Time to place bets on who will get the farthest in the
Playoffs between the big schools. It is interesting with
Mayo slipping in the last few games, JM playing much
Better and century has been the obvious trailer
Among the three. So who will get the farthest with the
Tiebreaker in the competition who loses by the least if two
Lose in the same round. Any thoughts

It will be interesting but i see Mayo being the only one to at least making it to the semi-finals....then again its the playoffs anything could happen

Zmolek scores four goals last night? That's a season's worth for many Big Nine defensemen. Glad he is back.

Rochester Lourdes

I have only been to a couple of Lourdes games this year because the ones that I saw during the early parts of the season didn't impress me.

WOW! Now I think Lourdes is a team to take seriously in the state tournament. They finally have a goaltender that can back them up and keep them in any game. They finally had their goalie that's been out the entire season from a back injury come in and he stopped 28 of 29 shots from Prior Lake. Lourdes only had 13 shots but the ones they had were good.

Prior Lake deserved to win the game but Lourdes now has a hot goalie that can take them deep into state. This kid is a sophomore and he's the real deal. He's calm and plays the puck well but more importantly he controls all of his rebounds.

Lourdes has enough offense to take advantage of the opportunities and now they have a goalie that can stop the other team and let the trust build in the players.

Rochester Lourdes is now the best team in Rochester!

The only public team that would put up a fight is Mayo and Lourdes would beat them by 3-4 right now.

Haha! You're correct that I'm a Rochester Lourdes supporter but I don't have any kids. I'm actually a supporter of any Rochester team that is good but it seems like Rochester Lourdes has taken that the past 5-10 years.

Is Lourdes senior forward starter and #3 scorer back from injury?
Is Lourdes senior defenseman fully recovered from his broken leg?
What if they played the game on the moon?

Give ME a break.

Mayo get the 2 seed, Century the 7... interesting 1st round matchup

Lourdes is the best in Rochester

If there was any debate about who the best team in Rochester is, it was put to rest last night in the Section Final vs. Mankato West. Some have argued that Lourdes is the best and some have argued that Mayo is the best.

It's pretty clear now. Mayo got badly beaten by Mankato West 7-3 at the end of the regular season and Lourdes smoked Mankato West 6-1 last night. You can't always get that great of an indicator from common opponents but there is no arguing with these outcomes.

Way to go Rochester Lourdes!

I don't have a dog in this fight so I'm not too concerned about it, but all I know is there is one Rochester team going to state this year and that is Lourdes. Say what you want about recruiting and private schools but of the 4 schools they are the only ones fulfilling their dreams this year. Claim whoever you want to be the best rochester team but in the last 6 years i can tell you which team i would play for given the opportunity and that would be the eagles

Case closed. Lourdes has proven yet again to be the best team in the city and will advance to state for the 5th year in a row (no other Rochester team had accomplished that feat). They have a good chance of being seeded as well, hopefully they can get that first win at the X. Funk and Samuelson set the tempo for the rest of the sqaud and look determined in there final year. Looking forward to seeing them there. Congratulations Lourdes good luck at the X!

Further Break down of the Mankato West common opponent

12/6/12
Mankato West- 1
Mayo- 2

2/7/13
Mankato West- 7
Mayo- 3

1/8/13
Mankato West- 2
Lourdes- 3

2/27/13
Mankato West- 1
Lourdes- 6

IMHO Lourdes tough stretch of schedule, towards the end of the year especially, was a major difference maker. They completely dominated Mankato West this time around while barely sneaking by them in there first meeting in early January. Here is a list of the tougher teams they played between 1/8 and 2/27:

Delano, Duluth Marshall, Holy Family, Benilde, Tartan, Blake, New Prague, Prior Lake, and Totino-Grace.

There record was 5-4 in these 9 games I believe West only had 5 losses all year. It goes to show you it's all about being prepared in Feb and March and not so much padding a record against less than stellar teams.

I think this best supports the position that a school that draws from the pool of THREE other schools that are all in 1AA should also be playing in AA, not single A. Lourdes, the STA of southeast Minnesota. Its all about getting to St. Paul, continuing to draw a good percentage of the top end talent, and not about fair (beyond the letter of the law) competition.

I was thinking the same thing PeterDenton. Haha.

I bit my tongue earlier in the season on this message board because the discussions around "who was the best in Rochester" didn't make any sense to me. BadgerBob would always post a comment that didn't make sense or was an excuse.

In the past 13 years, I would say that Lourdes has had the best team 10 out of 13 years. Look at the # of state tournament appearances, wins vs. losses, common opponents, etc.
