QF game 1: #2 Duluth East vs. Eastview
QF game 2: #3 Edina vs. Moorhead
QF game 3: #1 Hill Murray vs. Lakeville North
QF game 4: #4 Wayzata vs. #5 Centennial

The MSHSL will not have an all northern QF game.

Unlike last year, the top seeds will all win their QF games this year.
The MSHSL does have all northern QF games... recently, 2010
Hermantown vs. Virginia

Well, this COULD have some merit. Wayzata beat both East and H-M. Edina beat Wayzata. Edina hasn't played East or H-M, right? Hmmmm.....
Edina lost to HM at Braemar.

I'd think an icehornet would know that....Hmmm....

So instead, we get an all eastern quarterfinal? Hmm. Too bad East Ridge and Eastview are in the same section.

I really like the balance in this year's Tourney field. On the one hand, we have the four most frequent visitors to State over the past 10-20 years in Hill, Edina, East, and Moorhead--including a private school, a public school many love to hate, a northern team among the favorites, and a northern team that will be an underdog. On the other hand, we have three Metro teams with only a handful of tournament appearances between them to give us some fresh blood. One is a serious title threat, and the other two have outstanding goaltenders and team defense, and cannot be taken lightly. And then, of course, there's Lakeville North, who has the dubious honor of being the team with the worst record to ever qualify in AA--but then, they have given some good teams some good games, and they finished 5th two years ago with a similar record.

Looks pretty good. Wayzata vs Centennial seems like the surefire #4 vs #5 game.

I doubt the "random" draw will pit section 7v8 1st round, so the only thing that could possibly change would be Eastview and Lakeville North flipping opponents.

 And if you were to ask Elliott, he'd say East is the private school...

It's always amused me how East is absolutely hated up north, but when we come down to St. Paul, we tend to get tons of support from the casual/unaffiliated fans who like to see a good northern team take a shot at the Metro powers.

Official bracket is supposed to be out tomorrow morning.

Given the regular season outcomes, it makes no sense to me to adjust the Top 5 seedings.

Edit: You cannot put Wayzata above Edina since they were 0-3 against them. You cannot put Edina above Hill or DE since they lost to them. And you cannot put DE above Hill since Hill has the best record. Unless there's a large disparity in record there's just no way.

Don't you just hate low information fans? They cheer for the Golden rats when they play UMD. Then they cheer for East against anyone near where they live.

East has always been easy to love. A lot of us grew up in the Spehar era. Moorhead gets support as the humble underdog that's never taken one home.

More often than not, I'm cheering against a team rather than specifically for one at state. The team I'm cheering against just happens to be private or Edina most of the time.

I like the field this year. If Edina is playing Hill on Saturday night, I'll be enjoying the last night of the WCHA regular season from my couch. :)
