Hutch has a natural scheduling advantage based on conference and geographical location. New Ulm has earned the right to schedule some better opponents by their past history. Luverne is trying to get the level New Ulm is but has the deck stacked against them, there is no way (at least at this point) many quality A teams will schedule Luverne let alone travel there. If you're not a 3A team there really is no benefit to schedule Luverne, heck even some 3A teams can go to the metro to get a game for far less in travel expense.

Scout, I agree with an above poster, you give some real good information but you corrupt any thought with constant Luverne bashing that is just not in line with anything else, just stop. If you can't even be objective, ever, just leave Luverne out.

We have some games going on today anyone else have predictions?

I'm taking Willmar 5-2 over MBA
Marshall 6-1 over Worthington
and finally Redwood Valley over Windom 4-3

Windom usually plays their best hockey later in the season and Redwood will be breaking in a lot of bantams with some flashy stuff will be a good game but pretty ugly playing, Marshall even with losing guys will simply out-match Worthington and Willmar shouldn't have too big of a problem versus MBA.

Marshall was whupping up on Worthington 8-1 when I left with 4 1/2 minutes to go. They scored early and often, getting goals from Alex Buysse (3), Andrew Bell (2), Walker Werpy, Taylor Rasmussen, and Nick Fosdick. Campion let in a relatively easy goal to Worthington's Nick Newman.

Marshall started a freshman defenseman, Dylan Criquet-Danielson, who looks to be a smooth skater and fairly composed on the puck.

I felt a bit sorry for Worthington. They only had 13 players in total, of which 2 were goalies so that they were only skating two lines. Too bad some of these southern schools just can't get enough numbers for a full squad.

I'll take Marshall in a 2-1 win.
Worthington 4-1.
I sure as hell.o am not taking any financial advice from you!

Not quite on the level of 3A but here is my current ranking:

1. New Ulm - Strong goaltending/defensive team that is opportunistic and takes advantage of opponents mistakes.

2. Hutchinson - Strong offensive minded team that leaves their weak goaltending exposed

3. Willmar - Solid offensive/defensive team -Tough checking keeps them in all games

4. Luverne - Hard working offensive focused team

5. Litchfield - Good goaltender with hard working skaters

6. Marshall- Strong Goaltender with inexperienced skaters

Big Early Weekend for Windom. Put up 10 goals on Redwood now play LDc tonight and Hutch tomorrow afternoon.

Should be a good early indication of what this team has to offer.

Left the Litchfield vs. Windom game with 8 minutes left and it was 7-2 Litch. Don't know if that was Windom's starter or not in net but he is like a crappy out there, awful when the puck is shot low at his feet.

The Litch / Windom game could have been a lot worse last night. Windoms goalie came up with some big saves in the first 2 periods. The goalie is young and will only get better.

Not sure how the 3A non hockey knowledge scout has them ranked as high as he does.

From the looks of it, Windom has been getting whooped up on the past two games, lost 10-2 to Litchfield and 8-2 to Hutchinson. They're also beating Morris 11-1 in the third period.

Filling the stat sheet

After seeing the way Litch and Hutch skaters put up points this weekend it really makes it difficult to effectively gage Luverene based on numbers. Oh well I guess I will just leave that task up to the hockey bible experts.....

Litch and Luverne will find out about each other on saturday.
Big week for Luverne; Marshall on Tuesday (Luverne Shorthanded again)
Then Luverne at full roster strength for Litchfield Saturday.
These will be a good early test, it will be good for the section to see where they at. Until these games magically dont matter in the minds of the already conviced that Luverne doesnt matter. ](*,)

Marshall will finish 5th in SW this season. They are facing lots of challenges. Head coach should be a positive but beyond that asst. coaches have been an issue for this team for a number of years...especially on the defensive side of the puck. Goal tending is also a really big issue. Their guy had a great tournament last year but his skills are incredibly limited. There are 5 other goalies in the section who could start for Marshall. Marshall should not confuse going to state last year with having a good hockey team. Every section champ in the last 15 years would have easily beaten whoever won last year's section. Way way down. Lastly, for anyone to look past Luvern this year is in trouble. They have had trouble coming together at playoff time the last few years but don't count on that happening this year. 3 of the top 12 players in the section come from Luverne only 1 from Marshall. Huitch has the best collection of athletes and a coaching change in Willmar will help. Off the crossbar!

Section 3A Rankings as of (12-1-13)
1. Hutchinson (1-0-0)
2. New Ulm Area (0-1-0)
3. Willmar (1-0-0)
4. Marshall (1-0-0)
5. LDC (2-1-0)
6. Luverne (1-0-0)
7. Windom (1-2-0)
8. Morris-Benson (0-2-0)
9. Redwood Valley (0-1-0)
10. Worthington (0-3-0)
11. Fairmont (0-0-0)

Hutchinson wins easily over Windom despite not having key players playing because of Football. Should great depth and will only get better once they gain their full team back.

New Ulm Area had to play with a shortened lineup due to some off ice situations and they looked out of sorts vs. Orono. Will get better as the year goes on.

Willmar took care business last week by easily defeating Morris-Benson 8 to 1. Again Willmar like many other teams early on is dealing with not having a full lineup because of off ice issues.

Marshall looked very strong against Worthington taking care of business winning 8 to 1. Campion gets some big tests this week with Luverne, New Ulm and Hutch on tap.

LDC destroyed Windom and Morris Benson. I think The Dragons are much better then people expected.

Luverne beat St Peter while missing some key players. I think missing those players vs Marshall will be tough to overcome.

Windom depth and Defense will need to improve for them to be the sleeper I thought they were. Losing Coach Ammerman really hurts this program.

Morris Benson, Redwood Valley, Worthington and Fairmont are all going to have their struggles this year.

3A Scouts Spot Light Games (I will Be Attending this week):
Dec. 3rd Luverne @ Marshall

Should be a big statement game for the Tigers. Playing a shortened Luverne team in their barn… I like the Campion Backed Tigers

Dec. 5th Marshall @ New Ulm Area
Marshall might struggle on the big sheet in New Ulm. Campion will keep them in it but I think New Ulm takes this one.

Dec. 7th Hutchinson @ Marshall
I like Hutch in the Section Final Rematch. Goaltending will play a role in this one Allen let 2 goals in on only 12 shots on Saturday will need to shore that up or Campion could steal one.

You really need to stop just looking at the score board and making opinions. The more that you post and try to talk hockey the more people realize that you have no hockey knowledge at all.

If you would like I can schedule an intervention to help you out.

The top 3 teams in the section in no particular order are Hutch, New Ulm, and Luverne

33 and 10.
Everyone knows 33's impact up front, but 10's impact on the blue line is an enormous loss.

Wait til luverne wins these games and 3A hockey Trout tells us how they didnt matter. Same lack of acknowledgment if Hutch Or New Ulm lose.

I don't think you can say that a team looks "very strong" after playing a team like Worthington. Can you?..Does anyone know how young the Worthington goalie is? But yes, I agree, Marshall has a big week ahead of them. It will be interesting to see how the top 6 teams look after this week.

I'm curious as to what coaching change in Willmar you are talking about? Pretty sure Tollefson is still at the helm in Willmar.

I thought I read in HS Hockey Update that Willmar got a new goalie coach. If not, my bad. I also might have spoken too soon on my Luvern prediction. I forgot how thirsty those boys get down there. If they can get that quenched by mid season they should be ok. Off the crossbar!

On the radio, possibly. Internet stream, doubt it. The major Marshall radio station that I listen to is 105.1 FM. I'll take a closer look tonight to see what's happening in the booth that is at the top of the standings.
