I hope you were at least able to get a piece of the free cake they were serving after the game at the concession stand.
Dam! They had cake?!?!? Sorry I chose not to go!

I love this thread... We all know the long and storied tradition of LN parents bitching and complaining about everything (e.g Schmitz, Eigner, Goalie Mom) and now that there just can't be anything they could possibly complain about (at least for now), everyone else is now piling on the bitch parade  What's kind of sad is that the one hell of a hockey team is kind of getting lost in the shuffle (again)!

Back to discussion on the game.

Line Matchups
For good portions of the 2nd and 3rd periods the top lines were not matched up together. Each 2nd line held their own. This isn't good news for the rest of the state.

Lakeville North
After a rough outing against Farmington, Edquist looked excellent and made several big saves. If he continues to play that well, they're going to be nearly unstoppable.

As always, the Poehling line is fun to watch. The opportunities they create with cross ice passing and always being aware of the trailer are impressive.

Edina
The power play looked out of sync. It seems like they really need somebody to quarterback it from the point. It'll be interesting to see if they make changes or just let their guys develop.

Overall it was a well played game and a lot of fun. Hopefully there are a lot more games like that ahead of us.
There was an attempt to get the game moved from Ames to Hasse (South Lakeville) to accomodate more people, better sight lines, etc. However, the kind folks in South Lakeville shot that down quickly. (They will let them take all their good players, just not play in their home rink)
You must be confused. Edina called and wanted the game moved because they knew the issues at North. North administration and staff kindly said no. Why would North ever take away the advantage of playing on their home rink. Why push this back on South when it has nothing to do with them.

Does anyone know how the North vs. Edina JV game went?

Also, I would be interested to know how North's JV has been doing if anyone knows scores for the season?

Thanks!

3-3 tie if memory serves me correct in my old age. I got there mid-way through the 3rd...Edina tied it up with a couple minutes left in the game.

Not true.

As for roping off seats...did the band at least stay for the entire game?
Irrelevant, IMO.

The school knew there was going to be a big turnout of paying customers, yet blocks off 1/4 of the total seating, on the visitors side no less, for themselves.

Now, even though I'm a big fan of school spirit and am on record stating that showing up to the state tournament without a band is pretty apathetic, I would expect that people expending the effort to drive and park at the venue, then pull money out of their pockets to support your program would be treated a little better.

Sadly, this does not appear to be the case with Lakeville North.....I'll not darken the door at Ames again.
so, where should have the band been located?

Has anyone disagreed that Ames Arena is not the most desirable place to watch a hockey game? However, it is all they have and they aren't about to lose the home ice advantage by accommodating the away team. At least they were nice enough to offer a shuttle from the upper lot so people didn't have to walk. Let's give them a few hospitality points.
I'm not the "away team"....I go to numerous games at numerous arenas....LN purposefully packed the house with their own people, at the expense of cash customers that they knew would be filling the joint.

They get negative hospitality points.
next time there's a big game, you should call ahead of time and let them know you're coming and they'll save a seat for ya. Just tell them who you are.... a very self important guy, who believes he is more important than everyone and thinks school spirit and students don't matter and you deserve the best seat, cuz you are who you are...OGIE!!

I remember when Ames had park bleachers like the ones that you see behind a back stop at a local ball field. It is bad now but it use to be really bad. The first row was at ground level with the ice so you couldn't really see over the boards.
