My guess if Hastings was in 4AA he would be a top 5 goalie but since he is in 1AA he must suck. Go figure the bias here. Alex Kangas is one of the top Gopher goalies, Charlie Lindgren played in the NHL but heck 1AA goalies are inherently bad....
I don't think people are disregarding him. He was only a soph this past season and the goalies listed in this thread are seniors.

Wonder if Benson will be back with the Bengals this season?
Has there been other times a player went to play tier 1 and then come back to his original HS team for Senior season?

Hear it's going to be a tough road for Benson to return.. but not impossible...

I know way too much about this BB and Blaine situation. It's ugly, and full of critical comments from a lot of Blaine parents and players that shouldn't get posted due to the facts that these are all kids. However, I have ZERO idea how it ends up.

Blaine's biggest question mark is in goal. This would fix it - or would it? :^o

Leave high school after sophomore year - play tier 1 junior year- sign a NAHL tender - back to your high school for your senior year  :? #-o

Will Johnson from LVN to Lone Star Brahmas
He might be rostered - he will be fighting Jake Begley (2nd rd draft pick this year, 2 years of USHL experience and fighting for a D1 spot in his last year of junior eligibility) and Brandon Benson (Blaine HS/ Sioux Falls power u16- tendered mid-season). If all 3 indeed are there and rostered - I’d give the edge to the latter 2.

NAHL teams always stack the goalies. The Magicians had Haider, Robbel, Mitchell James and Conan Hayton to start the season. The latter 2 played a combined 2 games (James played both while Robbel was injured). Both were cut when Robbel returned. Juniors is a tough deal.
I'm hearing rumblings that suggest his roster spot may be "real"?
Could very well be!

An atypical path (if that's how plays out) no doubt about that!

I had heard rumblings of this after word broke that Johnson was in the mix at Lone Star, I haven't heard any specifics behind how this all unfolded or what came first in the string of events that have led to this point.

I heard there is still some question around if BB will be allowed back, but then again... all rumors and such...

I'm trying to understand how he wouldn't be allowed back though? I assume his parents still live in the school district (or he individually moved back in this summer, if that matters). He didn't go play for another MSHSL team, he went out of state and played T1. I'm no MSHSL eligibility expert, so I definitely could be missing something.

From the discussion above, I am gathering that it is not so much an eligibility issue, but more like whether the team wants him back after leaving.

I'm going to guess that Glockner and Welch will ultimately land somewhere as well, but you are correct that there were some very "interesting" selections last year. There are obviously times when there is more to the story behind the scenes that provides additional explanation, but I still haven't heard anything.
Sure, but I also think you have to account for the fact that two of the top goaltenders – Fritsinger and Mueller – have decided not to continue playing beyond high school. Both likely would have ended up on junior rosters had they chosen to pursue that route.

Will Johnson from LVN to Lone Star Brahmas
Johnson no longer rostered on LS. Any idea where he went?

Also Nathan Mueller to the Wisconsin Lumberjacks of the SIJHL.

Went up to Showcase hoping to see Jon Howe in a rotating start tonight for Jamestown against Magicians , but they kept their No. 1 goalie starting again tonite. Lost 2-1 , magicians scored with 4 sec left. Cant make it tomorrow against Kenai, if anyone goes and he starts, please give us an update. Although I guess its getting time to bury these post HS goalie comments.

I will say, within the proper use of the HS Forum, that Oberle was one of the more dominant players on the ice.

Sounds like if things go to plan - West will play 66-75% of the games. They don’t care too much about the location and it being a “home” game for a lot of Minnesota kids and their families here to watch them. I’d be shocked if they don’t play Howe at least once though. I figure their starter West plays 3 of 4. Jamestown isn’t as strong as they were last year.

Caught the Magician / Rebels game on hockey tv. If Laylin goes back to STMA - the Magic will lose a huge scoring punch. I think they’ll struggle to score goals this season. Hale will have to step up, as will a lot of their newcomers. They’ll miss Keranen, Buhl, Kruse, and the 1-2 punch of Haider / Robbel. Former SSM goalie David Tomeo (New Jersey) was a nice, late addition. Played well today.

Yeah, couldnt help but have questionmark in my mind about Hales future at UMd.

Far as I know, both Laylin and Oberle will be back at HS, but until November rolls around nothing is certain anymore.

As far as I know - Hale won’t be at UMD or at least he isn’t in their plans. Only have that from a secondary source close to the school (and who’s kid is currently committed there). He did remove the commitment off one of his social media accounts 🤷🏼‍♂️

Agree with you 612

“As far as I know - Hale won’t be at UMD or at least he isn’t in their plans”

But Sandy probably reluctant to officially pull a commit ? so ball in Jakes court ?

UMD is still on his Twitter account.

Oberle and partner will have to better than that to be successful! I see dad in the stands was none too happy. The NAHL isn’t high school. Physical play is a must. Tough loss for the Magic today. I see Howe got the start against Kenai River today. In progress...

In terms of spring 2019 graduates, I saw that Glockner and Howe are both over 90% saves in NAHL with 4 full or partial games played. Dont know Boynton status, limited ice time at Fargo so far?

Boynton won't see a ton of ice time in Fargo. It's Brady's net. Jake Sibell played a similar role in Sioux City last year. Played 20 games last year behind Ben Kraws and left there to play in the NAHL this year. Sioux City drafted Haider 3rd overall and had Aidan Harper as well. Haider has played all 6 games so far. Jake made the right choice and is currently playing for Aberdeen. He played well in the showcase, notching a shutout, after a rough first game.

2019 Tonka system/ Totino grads NAHL goalies are doing great. Glockner was NAHL recent star of the week in the South Division, and Howe was 2nd star of the week in the East. Both are at about 92% save percentage.

Great for them and several former MNHS goalies appear to be thriving in the NA
