Despite having a good forward in white and maybe one in smith Rapids just doesn't have enough talent, not to mention goaltending, to compete in 7aa this year. I wouldn't be surprised if a decent Brainerd team takes them down this year.

I would say their defensemen are easily as good as any in the section. And to say Smith and White are the only guys capable of doing anything. We will see.

GR. You are pretty lame. As I understand from fellow comrands u come down from the great north and broadcrast a game or two and low and behold your the expert on 7AA. Please let us know when youre in GR or GW (to renew your loan or give a contribution to the GW program that weill obvisiously keep you in the fold because thats the only player you promote) GO First National Bank of Coleraine.<img src=

What are you talking about? Where do I claim to be an expert. I'm just asking people's opinions on different teams and why they feel the way they do. What's wrong with that. Why do you keep bringing up Greenway?!?! I am a 1999 grad of GRHS. I love Grand Rapids hockey, I've been a fan for a long time.

I support all Rapids hockey players equally. Some I'm just more familiar with and only 2 of them are in the elite league. I was impressed with those two players last season, but they can't do it alone.

GR19 - Brainerd Pick

Picking Brainerd in honor of Videoscout who we all miss around these parts.
Actually I am giving the 4 spot to Brainerd on goaltending, other than that I see the teams pretty balanced (Brainerd and Grand Rapids).
I need to give props to Esse over at Cloquet, the man can just flat out coach the game. I do not care who he has for talent year in year out, The kids over there strap it on and give you three solid periods year in year out. I wished I could say that about the local boys but they just have not proves anything. So an Elks verse Jacks final would be a joy to watch at the DECC. Rapids....well they have to earn that respect and that coveted 1 ot 2 spot and thus far have not. I will point out to you what it takes to win goaltending and coaching and the hawks are hovering around the 4 or 5 spot when it comes down to picking teams, on par with the "Worriers" with the nod going to the "Barnyard" in net.

Edited by: <A HREF=

good enough

good enough explanation for me. I also agree about Cloquet. And I agree about GR's goaltending. I think Andy will do good this year. He just needs to get his confidence back. He has the tools to be a great goalie, he just needs to bring that greatness out from inside. And have amneshia (I know that is spelt wrong) after he gets scored on. Maybe have a goal of only letting in 3 goals a game or less, something like that.

Also, certainly CEC is coached well, and they work hard. If GR wants that same repuation, look at one player from last season, Austin Tavis. If every person worked that hard CEC would look like a welfare case in comparison. Again, I'm no expert, but from what I have observed is Cloquet and Duluth East are always there in the end.

GR19 Goalies and 7AA

GR19 let me be clear here I do not and will not name any names and wished you had not brought up one name already it is not fair to any kid in my opinion as we should not try to single out anyone. The problem is systemic to development not any one kids anyways and should be viewed and discussed as such. Keep that in mind when you post please. All good programs develop their goalies...it is after all the most important position. Also let me be clear by my comment and it will be no slight on any individual coaches at all. My comment in regards to coaching in the last post was meant only to be taken as this that stacked in our proverbial preseason rankings against Elk River, East and CEC. Rapids and Brianerd come in four or 5 when matched up against those teams and that based on historical play. I will refrain from slamming any individual coaches this season as it is unfair to do such. They all work pretty darn hard for very little pay and many have a great prespective on amatuer and that applies to the local staff as well as many in 7AA.

I don't think there's anything wrong with bringing up an individual if I'm being positive and complimentary. Like I said, the kid has skill. He can be great.

ps-JLS 81 do you think any of the players from bantams last year can really make an impact on varsity? I hear they'll have some size up front with some of the JV players from last season. Seems to me Rapids has had small sized players for a while. Back in the mid 90's and previous years that had more size. Seems to me anyways.

From what I saw of the few games in GR last year, the boys will have alot of regrouping to do. They lost some really good seniors and the juniors and sophs will have to pick it up...its the same every year its the cycle of sports. The problem again will be between the pipes. WHY???? Eau Claire always had good goalies. Eveleth the same. Duluth..Black River Falls...

If I said something wrong why didn't the admins delete my posts? W900, quit worrying so much about what everyone says. I'm not 100% accurate, but who is? The players I talked to thanked me for coming down to DJing the games. I also had positive response from what I said promoting them last season. Sometimes I let my emotions get to me and said things I regretted after a loss, so what? I said a few things wrong, should I be burned at the stake for it? JLS 81 tells it the way he sees it, I don't always agree. This site would suck if everyone said things just to be agreeable. W900, can we stop this senseless arguing and try to get along? I think we cheer for the same team for crying out loud.

I agree with the comment about CEC and Coach Esse. Cloquet doesnt have nearly as many kids try out as East or ER but those kids work so hard they are hard to play with. CEC has a team of genuine hard-nosed players.
