If these coaches can't be intelligent about the seedings then it should be done differently. Lourdes is ranked #8 in the state and they play a very hard schedule. I am not saying they should be ahead of Faribault but c'mon who else should be ahead of Lourdes in this section. He just fueled the fire for Lourdes (Bad move), this time of year you don't give motivation. I also think he screwed himself because I definitely would play New Prague over Albert Lea who they will play on Saturday. Nystrom will have those boys playing come Thursday and Saturday. Good luck Faribault I hope it backfires.
This is why the seeding system is broken. I thought the coaches are supposed to honestly rank the teams, not play some game to try to increase your seed. If Faribault were to rank honorably, Lourdes would have been #1 and Albert Lea #2. That means instead of the 4 ranking Faribault gave being thrown out, it would have been the 3 ranking that would have been tossed. This could have earned Faribault the #1 seed. I am not sure if these rankings are public but they should be. That way some of these dirty coaches can be exposed. I lost a lot of respect for the Faribault coaching staff on this one.

Hi all, my first post on this site. Looks to me like section 1A will be very exciting and up for grabs. After watching many 1A games this year, I believe it will come down to hot goaltending. The teams are fairly evenly matched up front but..... as usual it will be a bounce here or there and goaltending. Looking forward to the tourney, let the games begin! :D

I have one question. Was the head coach of the Falcons at the Lourdes game? He seeded them at 4th. I wonder if he was watching the game.

How would Albert Lea be #2? There #4 right now?

If Faribault were to rank teams honestly they should have ranked AL #2 since they lost to them. Bottom line, Faribault ranking Lourdes at 4 is bushleague and an embarrassment to the system. This would be like Wayzata ranking Minnetonka 4 just so they could possibly sneak up to the #1 seed. I thought Faribault should have the #1 seed because I think they are the better team, but now I am just disturbed that the coaches felt they had to manipulate the system in order to get an advantage. Too bad for the players that their coach is giving them a bad name.

Since Faribaults coach couldn't rank his own team #1 he is basically saying Lourdes was #5 in the section? Why blatantly give that kind of motivation to one of the top challengers? Makes no sense.
Really bad draw for East having to play Austin again. Their last game ended in a brawl and that wasn't a season ending game. This could get ugly.

Putting Lourdes at #1 is totally understandable and makes sense.
Putting Lourdes at #2 is also understandable and can be explained.
Putting Lourdes at #3 is possible, and could be explained.
Putting Lourdes at #4 means you know nothing about hockey, or you have an agenda.

IMHO.

Do they throw out high and low selections for each team?

Does each section have the same process?

If not why?

If this is what he actually did, I'm not sure what he is trying to accomplish... It does sound like fuel for the fire

When coaches seed the teams they rank them 1-what ever, not ranking their own team. You then throw out the highest and lowest ranking for each team. Total the points and the teams are ranked from lowest to highest in points.

Example, Roch Lourdes receives these rankings from the other coaches.
1, 2 , 1 , 2 , 4 , 3 , 1 , 1 , 2 , 2, 1 (throw out one of the lowest and the highest, a 1 and the 4) total would = 15....Pretty tough to manipulate the system :D
In your example, change the 4 to a 1 and the total is now 13 not 15. That could be the difference, so yes it can be manipulated. ](*,)

I'd like to see the rankings, unlike section 8 section 1's aren't posted anywhere I can find. Without providing any source information what did the Post Bulletin writer use to get his information? In past years section 1 has been very private about their seedings what changed? Without providing who the Faribault coach seeded in front of Lourdes, any comment from the coach, or any other teams seedings I don't like the story, it seems incomplete and frankly bad reporting. Given some other things he writes I'm not so sure I trust the truth of the story versus printed second hand information.

I hope Faribault did that. I think Lourdes will handle Northfield no problem, then kick the sh%$t out of Faribault (if Faribault makes it that far)..

Nothing coming up at all from Faribault for many years to come so if Lourdes wanted to pour it on, I say they should.....

If the Faribault coach really seeded Lourdes #4, he obviously had an agenda... I mean come on, Lourdes #4 in the section?!? It shows a lot of class trying to cheat the system like that.... hopefully it backfires on the Falcons

first off i would like to know the credibility of this report, since i always had the implication of the seedings meeting being private.

also i dont agree with folks hoping lourdes kicks the crap out of faribault. why bash the entire team and town because of a coaches mistake (assuming what he did is true). i totally agree that if any coach ranks lourdes #4 that it is a low blow and totally classless, but the kids are not at the meeting. i hope that i the two teams do in fact meet up in the finals that it is a game of last years caliber.

all that being said and set aside, i think we are in for some surprise upsets this year and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

From what I know of the process in the past, the coaches are aware of who voted for what seeds(i.e. Lourdes coach).

gotcha, i really dont know how the whole process works. im sure if the coaches knew of him doing this, it didnt take long for word to get out.

Without seeing how the coaches seedings will will not know how his voting changed things if at all.

I agree with you I think this is a low blow. You wonder why he keeps moving from job to job?? What kind of team is he running?? Honest and ethical??

If he did this, all coaches will remember this in future years.

I'm ready to move on to discussing playoff hockey games.

Anyone see upsets tonight?

Mankato East vs Austin

Red Wing vs La Crescent

Norhtfield vs Waseca

Mankato West vs St Peter

If I understand the rational for Faribualt to rank Lourdes at #4 is an effort to gain the #1 seed which they accomplished. That then means they would be the "home" team IF they were to meet in the section finals.
Then that gives them the chance to make the last change of lines. This happened 2 years ago against Mankato West with Leiverman and Litchfields line. But thats about all that it gains them and not sure thats a tremedous advantage. Hope they meet and Lourdes takes care of the issue on the ice.

why would anyone want a team that recruits its players like Rochester Lourdes to beat a team like Faribault, reguardless of what their coach may have done, its not the Faribault players fault that their coach may be an ass, anyone who is a fan of fair play should never chear for these private schools such as Lourdes, Benilde, Totino Grace, Holy Angels, Duluth Marshall etc., these prvate schools do not play by the rules, what they do is far worse than what this faribault coach may have done, so you guys should think really hard about this I say bring back the days of prvate school state championships, and seperate public school state championships, now that would be fair, and dont anyone insult my intelligence and try to tell me that this does not go on with these private schools, and yes it does happen with these public schools as well but not nearly to the same degree as with your Rochester Lourdes type schools

Agreed, and well put.
