McLaughlin had 5 points and Hain had four in those two games. Against two top-15 outfits.
As I stated, splitting hairs. That's one thing I like about this site - splitting hairs is allowed and seen often.
I like that they're both on my favorite team, brother. But I would take Worth over either of them.
I was trying to indicate that what Hain and McLaughlin are doing on the ice is working.
Agreed. Now let's unleash them upon the rest of the state and finally bring home a fourth title.

The game was about as even as it could get. Their was at least 100 momentum swings throughout. You could tell both teams had a few jitters as there were quite a few fanned passes and clearing attempts for each. Each team was also able to sustain good offensive zone pressure for stretches. The defenses blocked a lot of shots (especially East) and the goalies were awesome. East almost finished the game off with a few seconds left in regulation when a forward (not sure which) made a great move near the blue line and went in close and tried to go upper right corner. Stejskal somehow managed to get a glove on that one. It's definitely a game of inches. Millers shot to win it was a laser.
Hats off to both again. Another instant classic in a long line of them.
That player was Garrett Worth, who I would take over any of the other players on the ice last night (and there were many) as my first choice to put together a hockey roster. That kid is particularly dangerous & seems to get a big goal in every big game he plays. As a lifelong Rapids fan, I was concerned every time he was on the ice. I don't know how Stejskal made that save but am really happy he did. As a lifelong Northern MN hockey fan, I'm excited that he's only a junior and will return next year with nearly all his teammates intact (ok, hopefully intact). How East is not rated #1 to start the 2017-18 season would be beyond me.
It wouldn't surprise me if Rapids was the preseason #1 7AA. They are the two time defending champs for crying out loud. They will return two Mr hockey candidates and two outstanding goaltenders to boot.

Also might be silly to say Worth was the best player in that game.
If I was Trent, I'd play Stejskal the rest of the way. You ride the hot hand. If he gives up two quick ones on Thursday, put in Holum. Great problem to have.
Definitely agree. Stejskal has been playing great and he is much bigger than holum in net. Holum does have the state experience but I think Stejskal proved himself with his section final performance.

Rapids will have their hands full keeping pace with Cloquet for a #2 seed that ain't gonna matter anyways

You sure those two will even be on the team next year? Have a feeling with mike gone they might head to USHL.

By Mike did you mean Micah? If so, I have no hesitation saying they will be back. As its been stated in the past, players don't leave Grand Rapids. It just doesn't happen.
I have no problem saying cloquet or east may be good or really good next year. But ya gotta prove it. Alls I'm saying is for the first week or two Rapids should be 1 as the defending section champs.

Thoughts after a day of reflection: from a hockey quality standpoint, I enjoyed this game more than last year's. I think I say that because both teams basically executed their gameplans throughout. (Obviously there were some ebbs and flows and mistakes, but on the whole, they were both doing what they needed to do.) As entertaining as those 6-5 type games are, they usually end up that way because there are some ragged stretches from both teams, and usually a couple of goals the goaltenders would really like back. Last night's wasn't like that.
That's interesting, because I think both teams are slightly down from where they were a season ago in terms of raw talent. Yeah, the Rapids top line is better, but the 2nd line is nowhere near what it was; East, while talented, was very young. Goes to show how talent isn't everything.

Aside from Meirhoff, who played amazing and the D Hill, a captain, this DE team was lite in impact player seniors...but next year that top line will be deadly, with Donovan likely the one with the most D1 potential. Also really like Paine...funny thing is when Paine & Hain we're given offsetting penalties in 2nd OT you'd think that would have favored DE...but I'm not so sure MILLER scores the OT goal if Paine had been on the ice defending Millers rush down the right side. While it's been 2 heartbreaking losses for DE to GR in a row, DE will certainly be a top 10 team in the State next year, maybe top 5.

I agree with you. Kirk was outstanding and the experience the underclassman got from this game should help them next year. East returns their top 9 forwards and 5 Dman( 4 from the section game and will Fisher, who I think East missed dearly). Their top line should be one of the best in the state next year. Plus the East bantam AA team has 1 1st year player so all those kids are coming up next year as well.
